    Mushroom stems and celery leaves give it a very good flavor.

      I agree! Mushrooms give it such savouriness and I always toss the ends of my celery in too 👍🏼

    In Russia we don't have broth in liquid form, but in cubes. They are super cheap and rich in flavour. Sadly, they are not-vegan. Or, at least I hadn't seen just vegetable option. I honestly can't even imagine liquid broth in stores

      Ah yes we have those cubes too and I’m pretty sure we do have vegetable versions but I think they tend to have quite a bit of sodium so I always bought the liquid broth in shelf stable tetra packs. It is a little strange when I think about it! There is a vegetable broth paste as well that you can dissolve in water and sometimes I use that as a back up if I’m making lots of soups and running out of my frozen scraps.

    anything to avoid with the vegetable ends? Should we freeze the veg scraps so they don't go bad by the time you make it?

    • @TastyThriftyTimely
      @TastyThriftyTimely  3 года назад +2

      Yes! Freeze them so you can collect them over time and then you can use them when you have a bag big enough to make a good amount of broth!
      Things to avoid: beets and red onion skins will turn the broth red, potato skins give it a “dirt” taste, too many cruciferous vegetables (ie broccoli, cauliflower) can give it a bit of a bitter taste BUT you can use them! Hope this helps!

    This is so great! I've made homemade broth like this but never thought to include carrot peels or the heads of peppers! Brilliant!

      @@TastyThriftyTimely I feel like the bulk of mine usually ends up being broccoli stems and whatever other random bits I collect, and I usually add turmeric too!

      @@SheelaghDaly oh turmeric! Yum! That’s a good one! I’ll have to try that in my next batch! 😋

    Looks great! How long will this stay fresh if refrigerated?

    • @TastyThriftyTimely
      @TastyThriftyTimely  3 года назад +2

      It should last about a week but you can freeze it just to be safe if you’re not going to use it right away. I freeze it in ice cube trays to have it in handy portions! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    Asparagus?

    • @TastyThriftyTimely
      @TastyThriftyTimely  2 года назад +1

      I do add asparagus ends to mine. Too many can make the broth taste a bit bitter so I tend to have a couple “broth bags” on the go and split the ends between the two! Hope this helps 👍🏼
