Really cool. It would be interesting to have a skeleton hoard, with each model having slightly different tones. Would keep the unit cohesive but add nice interest
All three look really good, and pretty easy too, I'm absolutely with you in the pin washing thing, it is a super powerful technique, takes longer than just slapping a wash all over and letting that do the work, but nothing makes the details on a model stand out better than a pin wash!
Absolutelt fantastic video on another fundamental, and thanks for the feedback in the premiere live chat, too. Whole bunch of great feedback for doing well weathered bones that I can't wait to put into practice.
So many skulls! Making a video with options to do bones is spectacularly helpful! Thankee for this. Looking forward to a “fixing bad priming with painting” video!
Thanks and great vid. I find bone very difficult to paint. This has helped a lot. I would love to see a similar vid but showing the horns you did on that ork mini
I finally placed an order for the series D set. Took some time but I consider it a graduation present to myself. Very excited to try some of the techniques I've learned from all your videos.
Thank you that really helps and the way you explain it whilst you paint is 1st class again thank you I have just started this during lockdown and find all the different styles really helpful 10/10.
Awesome vid, thank you for posting. I have "those" kind of friends - the ones that gift me toy skeletal tchotchkes every holiday season. Your tips are very useful for me to repaint them so they actually look cool. Thanks!
Thank you for taking the time to detail this process.I'm definately going to be mixing and playing with my skele's colors/shades after seeing this, Cheers!
I am definitely going to be adding some layer paint the base of my next go at any white/off white things. I often get a bumpy surface and I'm keen to see if this helps! Some interesting things to try with bone too. So many things to try, so little time!
Another nice video. First one reminds me how i used to paint my skellies - gw bleached bone with wash of gw chestnut. Drybrush bleached bone for highlights
Hey dude, glad you enjoyed it! Yup - we are waiting on restocks of a single brush size for M and S sets currently, lockdown means that we're not getting the volumes that we're ordering in one big go, but we have small regular restocks several times a week, so the wait shouldn't be long. If you've got specifics you're after let me know which ones?
@@ArtisOpus Could you apply the basecoat through an airbrush over a zenithal? .. and when you apply the basecoat is it meant to be an all over base, or do you still maintain the top down lighting effect when applying a basecoat over a zenithal? ( I hope this question makes sense..)
I’ve got a book called “Empire of Death”, which is all about European ossuaries and displays made from human remains. I use it all the time as a reference for painting. Hardly any of the bones are “bone” coloured. They range from Steel legion drab through Karak Stone. Others you would glaze with Mournfang brown. Many more are bleached, so rakarth flesh through to pure white.
I usually try a green tint to my flesh and bone too. I find army painter military shader to be far more useful than a straight green. Top tips as always, thanks.
for the first one you paint im eager to try this but the part looks black before you start painting has this already had a black prime put onto it first?
How do you maintain the round/goat hair style drybrushes? I think I messed mine up by trying to clean like I do with my normal brushes, masterson soap and water. There's a lot more fraying from one clean on mine than on yours which have probably seen a lot more action.
Is there really a big difference between Agrax and that Nuln oil/sepia mix? How does that further compare to Skeleton Horde (contrast paint). I'm trying to simplify my paint scheme as much as possible but I really like your white bone version. Could I use grey seer base coat instead of celestra?
I love your videos and have learnt a lot. I was wondering if you had any advice for someone who is doing mortifactors (bone white + black armour, love skulls and bones) I'm not sure how to make the armour, the skulls/bones and the purity seals/parchment not sort of all become one colour. How would you approach this? Thanks for all your vids and your brushes.
Hey dude, it's our 'dampening pad' - check out our ultimate guide for more information, it's to introduce moisture to the drybrushing process, and is magic :)
Cmon we need a bonesplitters tutorial those shields, the warchanter of the battle damage tutorial... This is fate. I mentioned this on the other video but we need a cool tutorial for ork skin, one that could use in the huge army that are the Bonesplitterz LET'S GO FELLAS LET'S SUMMON A WAAAAHG
Ok...i have an issue maybe you might know the solution.... Im painting 4000 points of Soulblight gravelords... and i have a really cool armor paint job im doing... it ends with a really flashy vampire red... but to do it... i need to paint with an airbrush, and theres no way ill be able to not paint some of the bone while im doing the main spraying for the armor.... is there a good technique i could use to RE-apply a white base coat to the bone that will be bright red...and follow the steps you did... without getting it to thick? sorry to ask!
This is a very good job. It would be interesting to make a comparison between these "modern" techniques with the older one. I mean, when the Shade and layer colours didn't exist, the washing was made with a normal colour, using more water. Maybe the modern colours (shade, etc..) can give a more complex effect in slightly less time.. buuut I'm afraid they're a commercial solution for the lazy painters! What do you think about it?
Really interesting idea, I've seen some other peeps paint eavy-metal style which is close to this, but just layering from black would definitely be a real change, now we're privileged
New to watching your videos. I’m really enjoying them- QUESTION: when you start painting a mini you’re using what I think of as a dry brush- the reason? And how do you wash or care for them?
Welcome, buddy! You can layer traditionally or stipple/smoosh with a drybrush. This is something I tend to use my drybrushes for as it's a little heavier. Check out Ultimate Guide to drybrushing and Flawless Blends tutorials. A lot of my cleaning is done as I paint, they'll do a good job at explaining and showing this.🤞😊
How can one get in contact with you? I need suggestion on a pendant that lost its luster. It's a very small piece, a fox face. I would like to send you pics of a before and after.
Sorry to hear about your baby d... brush.... but at least you helped me out before i start up Nagash the big bone spooky lord. That layer with base trick is stellar, really going against the grain eh.....
They look good, but not good enough to use those metods for painting Tomb Kings army this way instead of wraithbone undercoat and skeleton horde contrast/corax white undercoat and agrax in recesses :p
Amazing dude, it's always a tricky one, we try to give rods, rather than fish, but it's always a little more intimidating for people who like a recipe :)

I love this, no rigid paint choice and free mixing is closer to my style

When you put together the Sepulchral guard last night then this greets you in the morning. Looks like I need to get priming.
Thanks and great vid. I find bone very difficult to paint. This has helped a lot. I would love to see a similar vid but showing the horns you did on that ork mini
That's some incredibly control with the contrast at around 4:00, will have to bring this into my painting repertoire!
I finally placed an order for the series D set. Took some time but I consider it a graduation present to myself. Very excited to try some of the techniques I've learned from all your videos.
Amazing dude! Well deserved, will be great to have you painting along at home with the equipment! Thanks for the support

Great vid tho!

Where did you get that little wet sponge you kept dipping your brush into?
Ooh. You have some Pro Acryl paints being used today. Great paints 👍
Awesome! Spoilt for choice now for bone colour recipes. 😊
Thanks, man😊

Hope you enjoyed it, buddy, let us know your thoughts😊
This looks great. Could you do a complete skeleton mini please using one of these techniques.
Cheers man another great video. 👍🏻
My pleasure, dude, glad you liked it😊
Love the video! I must ask is there a place where I can see how to do the Horns on that Orruk's back armor? I love that dark rotting look!

This sounds even more interesting then usual!

Can you do the ancient bone technique on skeletons with a zenithal highlight?
Absolutely, hybrid techniques are my favourite :) could even do a shade from below

Them bones look absolutely fenomenal 👍
Thanks so much, dude
That quick dip in lahmian medium was hilarious. "Doesn't count if you go quick, right?" Ah the lies we tell ourselves :D
:D I'm just homogenising my future painting... Arty! ;)

Gonne try that last one on my White Scars.
What color do you use for the tattoo and spiral art on the shoulders of the orc model?
Thanks. Sometimes it's nice to add in some olive base to mix up the texture. And vallejo smoky ink is amazing for bones, especially horns.
I usually try a green tint to my flesh and bone too. I find army painter military shader to be far more useful than a straight green. Top tips as always, thanks.
What about ashed bones, I don’t know where to start at it for my chaos space marines
Fantastic as always. Almost makes me want to run an army that benefits quite a bit from DryBrushing, (Skeletons or Nids etc)
how did you paint the hornes of the Ork?
for the first one you paint im eager to try this but the part looks black before you start painting has this already had a black prime put onto it first?

This is going to be a good watch later to paint my Archaon's horns
