I enjoyed this format. It was less an interview and more a free flowing discussion among three passionate watch people discussing their long, personal watch journeys. A real treat for a watch nerd/enthusiast! Something tells me they could have cracked open some beers and stayed there discussing watches for another couple of hours.
It was the friendship around the passion for watches. It was so appealing. It will be really interesting for people to explore this a little bit more, it’s almost like you can collect watches within small communities. The Waze and watches went back-and-forth between friends. I really enjoy this. I’ve watched this probably twice or more. It makes me feel better about having a few Daytonas that I wish we’re not hype watches and I wish nobody knew what they were. I just like the way they look in the way they feel.
I have no idea to be honest but my best guess is Laurent Ferrier is not Patek and/or it has lower resale value. Seems most collectors only care about brand names and resale value.
Great conversation, guys! I really connected with your collection style, and I think it's true that as we get older, it's great to wear sneakers with dress watches.
Yes and it wasn't like it was sell the watch or don't eat. It seemed like a choice. I was shocked. It makes me think this whole watches are about emotion and memories, etc. is just a facade.
@@BenTramer I've always thought the most overrated idea in our hobby was watch ownership tied to emotions. Buy what you like in the present and looking forward. Leave the past behind.
Brian's collection is thoughtful, charming, a bit off the beaten path despite the daytonas. The 114060 story is very cool - as a personal aside, that is my only watch. It was a high school graduation present and has been on my wrist daily for a decade. It is all I need and nothing I don't. Hence, I admire this hobby from afar for now. As for Josh, I'm sure the travel time had nothing to do with John Mayer and the Nautilus + Cartier bracelet combo had nothing to do with a midlife crisis. The 5196p is the quintessential modern patek though, despite the tiny movement. He'd be happy to know that the two-tone dial + breguet numeral combo was hype before Nautilii ever were, as old Christie's/Philips auctions results can attest.
I loved the 5196 but the sub dial position destroyed the overall look. I bought a vintage IWC hermit with a similar dial... And I've never regretted it. All this buying, selling, and repurchasing is nuts. I've been collecting for over 40 years... I know what I want and have rarely sold any watches.
If you see how tiny the movement is on the 5196, you’ll know why the sundial looks so bad. Absolute shame that Patek would take such shortcuts. Beautiful piece overall but that aspect kind of bugs me.
@@BenTramer maybe so he kept it does he wear it? I expect them to like Rolex’s we all do but they fan boy over the same watches over and over. It’s the same with the car channels. I brought a Lamborghini etc. can anyone be different. I have seen so many Daytona’s and Batman’s it is literally boring 😂😂😂 I would prefer to hear about why he kept an Invicta.
do we really need to keep bringing buddies back? Brian is more of a flipper than a collector btw...watchbox keeps brining people who they buy from and sell to.
Great discussion, I agree with Josh and his 116509 (I have the exact same watch) - it is superb. I don't get the ceramic bezel craze, give me full gold any day. This model is a bit rarer than many people think eg My AD hadn't seen one for nearly 5yrs, but gets lots of new SS ones. Should also add - Brians's 16520 Daytona is also fantastic - I love the look (eg it looks well worn, which is great).
"I don't really care about timekeeping", that is simply wrong for a collector, it spins the entire point of wearing a watch built with hours and hours of skilled manufacture to a simplistic cosmetic of design over substance and purpose.
"Simply wrong" is a funny response to, truthfully, an opinion based aspect of collecting. Some people have different priorities in collecting, plain and simple. I don't need perfect accuracy, a reasonable facsimile is enough. If you want perfection in timekeeping, a lot of mechanical watches will disappoint. And once more, what IS the "entire point" of wearing a watch? Again, its up to the individual. Thanks for watching!
Usually, these types of videos make me cringe with the look at Me I can buy any brand I want because I have more money than you. I can't spend $50k+ on a watch but I have to say these guys don't come off like that, I've seen YT videos where the person/s do nothing but brag while putting someone down with a watch costing a few hundred dollars. I mean there is I'm a rich collector and then there is I'm a rich snobby collector.

Great chat guys. Surprisingly relatable considering the level of collecting. The “re-flip” of the now engraved Sub is disturbing.
It's like the wife find out and screamed, you bring that watch home right now and make sure it stays home forever
excellent to hear that AP is flexible on dial swaps!
Awesome story about the sub! Love how he got it engraved.
Thanks to all for this good video; great moderator and solid guests.
Very well done great episode
Thank you for watching!
I recently purchased a Laurent Ferrier Regulateur. I’m curious to read why Laurent Ferrier is avoided by some.
I have no idea to be honest but my best guess is Laurent Ferrier is not Patek and/or it has lower resale value. Seems most collectors only care about brand names and resale value.
TGE is a big fan of LF 👍🏻
Josh loves talking about himself too much. He needs to stop interrupting chatter about Brian and moving the conversation onto him IMO. 👍
This Josh guy wants all the attention. Learn to let other people talk about their collection and not make it all about yourself.
Beautiful pieces! I love seeing the journey and am excited to see what my collection looks like in 10-15 years!
Bravo, what a great collectors conversation. Glued to the tube.
Thank you for watching!
The Important part here for me is that Tim Mosso lifted the market on the EZM1 personally. Mosso effect is real.
Great conversation, guys! I really connected with your collection style, and I think it's true that as we get older, it's great to wear sneakers with dress watches.
Thank you for watching Marcio!
Fantastic , I thought it was just me , who’s going watch nuts
You can have anything you want…..you just can’t have everything you want….!!!!! Best advice ever
Dozens and dozens of brands ?I see Rolex ,Patek and AP along with a Sinn…
The guy sold it with the engraving? Jeez...

@@BenTramer Well, something compelled him to get it back, perhaps not a façade after all?
@@BenTramer I've always thought the most overrated idea in our hobby was watch ownership tied to emotions. Buy what you like in the present and looking forward. Leave the past behind.
Agreed!
It is troubling indeed! Even the mighty AC3 “was” considering his Reverso Grand Date a keeper considering it was engraved.

I disagree with you. I find the 5196 quite nice.
I wanted to hear what Invicta he owns. That shows he is a true collector buying what he likes not just the hype.
it was a gift

Those collections are phenomenal. I want them all. Almost perfect ❤❤❤
Thank you for watching!
Thank you Brian, Josh and WatchBox. Truly enjoy these collector series

Terrific video! Good job Watchbox!
This was great
Thank you for watching!
As we get older, I like more readable watches. Small dates I can not east see are not that important anymore.
Love this format and great conversation and what great watches. Omg

Lots of people in this comment chain care so much about the health of my skin. Its flattering really.

It’s all a bit late stage capitalism
Good conversation but in many ways the approach to collecting here is too sterile and serious.
its PAH tek.... come on
Rolex is a much better looking watch
They make u feel good
Patek not so much
Ummm says you
They just don't learn. Cringe level 3000
Thanks for watching!
@@ajohnston9782 I didn't. Piss off.
Detona is the best Rolex Rolex Rolex
Patek way overpriced for what they look like
they’re a nice dress ranch. not worth the money. Sorry.
The host needs help from a really good dermathologist.
That's not very nice.
Bro knows how to rock a cardigan though. Which is something he can control 💯
