- In Todays video I discuss the question "do I really need a camera?". Phones these days are extremely good at taking photos so what areas of life justify buying a single purpose device like a camera? Find out in todays video!
I put it like this. If you take snapshots for the internet, phone camera is fine. If you want to create beautiful art or photography wildlife or sports, you should get a camera.
What if I want both?

@@vzshadow1 Something about using a phone as a camera seems unsatisfying and bland. Its cool for the quick shots but the way phones process photo with too-blue skies, brightened shadows and too much sharpness just looks unreal and unsightly.
I am an artist and I have been struggling with taking photos on my phone, the pictures turn out overly bright and the paint and details doesn’t turn out visible, I struggle so much on filming my art but it is much better in real life, so I just knew that since I take photos all of the time it’s better to be more professional with it and get a camera 👍
Yeah, it's definitely harder to get that professional look with a phone camera so upgrading to even a cheaper mirrorless camera will help!
Shoot in pro/manual mode and shoot raw. Then you won't struggle with it ai edit problems on the phone.
Yes, a phone is “Good Enough” meaning I don’t take a camera with me wherever I go. However, if I go out with the intent to take pictures I take a camera. I find the cameras on the iPhone quite good, but I enjoy photographing with the interchangeable lenses on my Lumix camera bodies.
Patently based on the CIPA June 2022 report for ILC many consumers continue to shift from Interchangeable Lens Cameras to SmartPhones continues.
BUT for Pros and Enthusiasts the seemingly ever improving quality and performance of ILC bodies and lenses is what enables them to take better and better images. Whether one shoots Nikon, Sony, Canon or any of the other brands (FujiFilm, OM-Digital, and others) ICL technology has been transformed over the last 5 years. DSLRs are close to a cliff now and the shift to Mirrorless is now inevitable. As is the shift to Shutterless (the end of the focal plane shutter) and the adoption of new sensor technologies (beyond stacked BSI sensors to new designed that move well beyond Bayer GRGB patterns to WRGB and even more layers with single color channel per layer. The next hurdle is for 16-bit color depth to come to a 35mm sized sensor AND even larger bit depths to SMF and MF backs (like Phase One).
The fact that Mr Sony Silly-Con-ductors announced that his division will put a 100mp sensor in a smartphone, while possible, is simply ludicrous and the success of marketing over basic optical design. Higher and higher resolution just lowers the Diffraction Limited aperture size -- resulting in the effect of diffraction becoming increasingly visible at wider and wider apertures. A 100mp 1" sensor shot using a tiny smartphone lens most probably can only be used wide open, with ultra shallow DOF, before diffraction effects limit/reduce the resolution of images as the aperture is closed down.
We know why Mr Sony Silly-Con-ductors wants to put a 100mp sensor in a smartphone - because he also wants to sell ever larger SSDs, ever higher performance Chips AND of course ever more powerful batteries. Almost NO social media platform really displays images with resolutions above 1mp or vids greater than 720p -- sure you can post 4k and 50mp images -- but only very few viewers look at them at these resolutions.
I have a camera and a tripod for it but I think using it and filming with it is way more complicated than with a phone
Yeah cameras definitely require more filmmaking knowledge, but I think that's part of the advantage over using a phone!

As a landscape photographer it's a must that I have a proper camera. I shoot with a mirror less and a dslr camera. For quick snap of family and friends it's my smart phone.
You could also film a wedding on a camera and accidentally delete all the footage! Great video!

iPhone has film simulation app and add a bit t of more fun and cool filming look photos and the camera just a output picture. It depend what you like most.

I started on a phone and went to a camera for better focal length and control over ISO, aperture, etc.
Phone pictures are expectable for viewing on a screen but as far as larger prints go the phone falls short. The sensor is small whereas a camera has a larger sensor. Size does matter when printing larger prints. JMO

During my friend's wedding planning phase, I advised him to tell the visitors not to take pictures with their phones in church because it might ruin the background.
So during the wedding. None of the attendees were using their phones to take pictures and had to live in the moment. Needless to say the photos the photographer took look so neat and beautiful.
The attendees were only allowed to take photos during the buffet or whatever that program is called.

Yes! I think there are many weddings now where the guests are encouraged to live in the moment and keep there phones put away. The word you're looking for is reception! You're English is great!
I've been up in the air about buying an iPhone 11 pro max just for the camera only because you have the camera on you all the time and it's a Great photo camera phone, but like others have said; if you're going someplace to shoot photos than you usually take your camera gear with you.
Exactly! I think it's not a bad thing to have a good phone camera, but if your goal is professional quality I'd go with a camera set-up for sure!
Are bridge cameras better? Ive seen some really good professional stuff with them. Great video
I'm sure it depends on the certain camera. I don't have as much experience with those so I can't say, but I'm sure there are a few that get great results!
@@AndrewKnepper just got one, kodak AZ255, its amazing, and I have a canon 6d and t3i with 50mm 1.8 and the 1.4 lens. I was amazed by the quality of the kodak, but before I bought it, I watched a RUclips review on it and let me tell you, I'm 10 years in the field and I love the kodak. Great optical zoom, Manuel features for days, 25x optical zoom keeping the footage from noise at top zoom. I love it, technology has come a longggggg way😳😁 oh the kodak blows my iPhone out the water big time, no comparison. Smart phones are great but there phones with cameras, the lens size matter, the sensor , cmos please people😂 can't compare a high end cell, which are great, not knocking them at all, my iPhone has some good dynamic range, but nothing beats a bridge camera and up. Completely on other levels. I think people need to learn about entry level cameras, there so used to the cell doing everything which is fine, to each their own, as long as your happy with your results, go far it, it's really just preference at the end.👍
I do many shots while rolling in my vehicle. Means one hand point and shoot. M50 in my vehicle always. Can't do that with a phone. I tried. Years of motorcycle travel with point and shoot one hand operation. G12 then G15 then G16 for that.
It also depends on the phone itself :D I am currently using the iPhone SE 2 (i prefer smaller phones because i have small pockets and hands) and the camera is okay for taking silly pictures of my cats. But sometimes the light is just not good enough, it gets blurry or it looks good on my iPhone but not on a bigger screen. I have been interested in photography since i'm a child and i got my first digital camera with 11-12 years (it was way better than my first phone back then, but can't compete with the newer ones). Due to the lack of time and money i only used it on family vacations but nothing crazy and i never got into all the professional stuff. Now at 26 i'm planning a roadtrip to sweden & norway, i want to travel more in general and visit cool places or make really stunning cat pictures (all for fun though). That's why i'm thinking about buying a real camera - but i don't know yet if i'll use it that often after the roadtrip...
long story short: i'm searching for a good but not too expensive beginner camera that is able to outperform my (middle class?) phone :D oh and i think it's a good way to save some memory of my phone...
Thanks for the comment! I totally get what you're saying. I'd definitely recommend a budget camera and I would say you will for sure end up using that camera for years and years to come. So it's worth the investment! There are a lot of good options from the Canon M50 to the Sony a6000 to any of the Lumix or budget Fujifilm cameras. There's too many good options lol. Have fun on that awesome trip!

If you like the iPhone SE and have small hands you would probably love the micro four thirds cameras! Like de Lumix gm5 or the lumix gx9
Please help me, Here's my dilemma.
I want something which is handy, I can use it anytime and anywhere. I love taking photos. Close up of an eye, artistic photos of a fruit, buildings, night views.
It's not possible to take a camera everywhere. Especially when I'm trying to go out and stay minimal with gadgets.
This is why I don't want to take a bulky camera
However camera has its own advantages, especially for night shots.
So my question is should I keep buying a good camera phone every two years (because the technology gets outdated) or invest in a good camera.
It sounds like for you a good quality phone will do the trick! I'm always really enjoy, on the occasion where you know you're going to take photos, bringing along a camera just because it's a more fun experience and the quality is generally better than a phone... But you can't beat the portability of a smartphone and the quality just keeps getting better!

Investing in a good mirrorless camera or upgrading the phone every few years (I only upgrade the phone because of the camera, mostly as the software gets more sophisticated. Currently I use a Huawei Mate 50 Pro as my primary camera/phone.

A phone can be very good for calling somebody or text SMS to somebody, BUT phones are CRAP for photos !!!
So the iPhone 15 just dropped and I was already planning to get a camera, the Sony Zv e10 to be exact, but now I’m not too sure. I always wanted a camera that would be dedicated to making videos but I’m scared that I’ll get a camera and not use it as much. Just so confused, what do you think?
If you're going to make a lot of videos go for the Sony, but if you think it won't get used a lot and you'll only record videos on occasion, the iPhone camera is actually quite capable for video!
I am an amateur/beginner. I am shooting film on my old Kiev4am, and I shoot digital with my phone for Insta and stuff. But, I am thinking of upgrading my game a bit. I have an opportunity of getting the Canon 600D with the kit lens + a 50-200mm lens for 300eur, or a Nikon Zfc body only for 500 eur. I am thinking that the Canon is probably all I need, but then I might outgrow it fast, whilst the Nikon Zfc is out of my current starter budget, but is a good deal for a camera that I dont think I'll outgrow. Thoughts ?
I think I'd probably save up and go for the Nikon ZFc since it's going be a great first camera that will last a long time and also have the film camera look and feel that will make it fun to shoot on!
Phones are the little Kodak cameras of the past. Only photographers are doing the comparison.

You won't regret getting into photography! And cheap is hard when it comes to cameras haha. Depends on your budget. I'd recommend looking into the Canon M50 either used or refurbished. It's always better to buy a cheaper camera body and then invest in good quality lenses! I'm not really sure what good zoom lenses are out there but if you watch some RUclips videos I'm sure you'll find some good options!

I'm a beginner, I've been doing and practicing photography on my phone intermittently for around 2 years now. And all I love about this is the fact that it gets me excited when I see something I know I can capture and turn it into something beautiful. The current phone I have doesn't necessarily take very detailed shots and it's a little annoying but apart from that I know I enjoy the hobbie. Now, I'm considering whether I should invest in a good iphone or buy a camera. I'm still 17 so I don't really earn and will have to ask my parents. And right now we're not as rich to afford the expensive cameras either. I want to know if I should purchase a beginner DSLR and practice on it or go for an iphone since I'll also be shooting some videos because I plan on vlogging. Cinematography interests me as well. If I go for a camera, for the price I'm looking at ₹50K which is around 600$, are there any DSLRs that are good enough for both beginner photography and cinematography?
It may be a better investment to get a newer phone since you will use it more, but if you want to get into photography you can't go wrong with a good beginner camera such as the Canon M50 which is what I started with. Hope this helps!

Why is it that whenever I hear people saying my "phone" is good enough, it is always an iPhone? If anyone wants to make their case that a camera phone takes good pictures then do it using an average smartphone and not a top-of-a-line one.
In my opinion any new phone from any brand is gonna get you decent results compared to budget cameras or older cameras. Phone cameras are insanely good!

M50 IS 165KD R50 IS 209KD WITH MICROPHONE AND tripod
I've seen some pretty good deals on the Canon R50 refurbished from Canon. If you want to do video work I would recommend the R50 but if you want to save a lot of money find a good used Canon M50! I also prefer M-mount lenses from Sigma which is another point for the M50!
Problem with VIDEO shot on phones is that they all shoot VFR (variable frame rate). VFR absolutely suck balls! Creates so many problems. ANY camera beats ANY phone. That’s the law.
this is not true. on my phone Pixel 7 pro you can select 30 or 60 fps option. default is variable

Not wrong, I've just never seen it happen. My point is there are certain places for certain types of cameras and doing professional work cameras are the standard. Your average joe a phone camera is good enough, but using a real camera is a lot more enjoyable!

Hey man, I don't know if you'll reply, but my girlfriend is a makeup artist who promotes herself via instagram. She takes portait photos and some videos of her clients using her iphone 11. Would you recommend getting a 400-600$ camera, or just upgrade to the latest phone? Also, do all cameras support video, or is this more of a premium feature?
Well I would imagine eventually she would want an upgrade from an iPhone 11 and from what I've seen the newer ones are just incredible at video and photo! Might be worth the money to save up and get a new iPhone. Most cameras if not all have video features. I feel like in this case a new iPhone is the way to go, but down the road if she wants an upgrade then I would recommend getting a camera since they have better all around video and photo features!
