I was lucky enough to have met Miss Davis when this album came out. It was nothing like the event in the video! It was held at a very small record shop and hardly anyone came. I knew that she was disappointed, but it was heaven for me because I got to talk to her, shake her hand and get my album autographed, plus she said I could stay and ask her more questions if I wanted to. It was a dream come true for this Bette Davis fan!
When I was a baby my grandmother took my mother and me to Macys to meet Joan Crawford, she was signing copies of her book and my grandmother was head of her fan club on the east coast and remained good friends with her for over 18 years.
Bette Davis gave so much to her fans and it is so thrilling to see how enthusiastic these lucky fans were to give something back in return. She wrote lovingly about this great day in her book "This 'n That", but I never thought I'd get to see footage from the event and I truly cannot tell you how grateful I am. Thank you so much for making and posting this truly PRICELESS piece!
Those guys at 2:27 are adorable, the bearded guy is a truly devoted fan and his brunette pal is super cute (love the way his shoulders raise at one point in excitement). I hope they are still around and well and hope they got to see it; if it aired on a school television they may not have, hopefully it was also on cable access.
So great! Thank you for posting. I was on the cusp of 16 that year, living in the SF Valley, altogether sheltered (for a few more years at least...LOL) I would have loved to camp out and CAMP IT OUT with that group. The sweethearts knew a legend when they saw one. Loved the Tower employee's "What A Dump!" tee.
Yesterday was Bette Davis day on TCM, I watched The Great Lie, which I never saw before with Mary Astor it was very good. She’s always been my favorite love Davis.❤️
I wish I could have seen her reaction when the guy asked her to sign that poster with Miriam Hopkins on it. It has become well known that Davis and Hopkins DESPISED each other!
I love ❤️ this capsule times, kind of sad at the same time, to think that some of the people, so fresh & young that evening are already dead 😓😓😓 ahh nostalgia sweet nostalgia😔😔😔
By the time I got to her she'd already overstayed her time, and there were still dozens of people behind me. What's really sad is what a ghost town Westwood Village is now.
Oh, my Godness. She was signing them up but she wasn't smoking! To see that woman in mortal flesh without a cigarette in her mouth must have been very very disappointed
Really? I didn't see that on the Video. Thanks so much for your information. Shall I fasten my seat belt? It looks like going to be a bumpy night! Greetings from Spain.

@@sharksport01 The only country singing Bette Davis was when she recorded a duet with her sister Skeeter lol. Actually, Bette had just topped the rock charts, not by singing but by proxy thanks to Kim Carnes. Bette's actual album was "classic pop" singing mainly from her great era the 1940's and/or her films.
Yes I realized that 😊 that's why I added LOL. I couldn't resist adding to the kidding since there was a Betty Davis who had a number one country hit singing with the more famous Skeeter Davis in the duet The Davis Sisters . Cheers!
@ 2:28 boy they knew how to hide it but the talk gives it away...he’s got the beard going on and the average person would have never guessed, back then!
The song is Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes. The interviewer is me at 19 y.o. and this was shot for the news service at Beverly Hills High's TV station.
@@ForTheBoys Thanks for answering! Great! Ah! I've rarely heard that song. Never knew its name though I've seen its name around. Where and WHEN did you get the footage?

If you still have this account, tell us more!

Glad you enjoyed. The people there were all very loyal to her. It was a pleasure making this video!
“I can’t think of anything worth waiting for than Bette Davis” I’m so happy Bette felt love from her fans and I envy them for being able to meet her 💖
Love Bette Davis and all her movies. She was one of a kind for sure.
Wow what a treat! She STILL commanded big crowds right up until the end of her life.
The people waiting were all very sincere and loyal fans. Had a lot of fun making this video.
Tower Records...oh, those were the days.
AnthonyRUclipsFan In the days when we had ‘speed dial’ on our phones, I had
1. Police
2. Fire
3. Ambulance
4. Tower Records
And 3 floors of music!
How I wish I was born when this happened!
Oh how I wish I was alive then!!! Might love Bette so much

I love the Tower Records employee's What A Dump t-shirt so much
The neon sign reads "Classics Upstairs." They weren't kidding that day!!
Awesome observation!! Thanks.
They're a mild group. But I like any man who says repeatedly, "Bette Davis is my life."😂
Tower Records what's a great place to meet celebrities

I saw her at Stacey's book store on Market St. in San Francisco in the mid-1970s. She was signing one of her books. There was a line down the street!
A Star. Not like the flashy boring ones today
Hey David, u r sooo true! thx.
@@ForTheBoys the ones today are very boring. they have no personality at all
Been watching her movies, and I must agree one of the best actresses.
Lucky people!!!

Feelgoodery. This was a treat to watch. Thank you for posting.

Classics upstairs indeed.
Another awesome observation!! Thank you.
Ms Betty Davis and Mr robert mitchum, the most understated and best all time professionals in their fields. Rip. Mr and ms
Total icon.
Just watched mini-series 'The Fued: Bette and Joan'. Love that she is a spunky actress. A legend and rest in peace!!
Thanks, also, for the refresher on what we looked like in 1982. I was 18 when this was recorded.
Hey M., we were lookin' good in '82! I was 18 too :)
@@ForTheBoys Indeed we were, Steve.
Very nice piece. What great reverence.
I remember it well; so glad I found this video!
Glad too! Were you there?
Thanks for sharing this.
You're very welcome, and glad you enjoyed!

This is beyond wonderful. Thank you for posting it. Can you please tell us about when in 1982 that was?
No problem, glad u liked! Don't remember what month we shot this, I think in the spring. Take it easy...
I should have said 2:25 so you can see the full bit; also, at 1:02 you can hear the brunette guy speak briefly.
1:30: I love her look!
The music is cute. Rip, ms Betty davis
Thanks dian! I thought the song would be totally relevant.
Wow! 1976 . The year before Star Wars was out ... I remember it well
It was 1982
When the album first came out is what I meant to type lol!

Missing Tower!!
Produced by Steve Elliot
Hey man, thanks 4 the props! I produced the video with a friend of mine.
u r smart!
Oh, my Godness. She was signing them up but she wasn't smoking! To see that woman in mortal flesh without a cigarette in her mouth must have been very very disappointed
She had her silver cigarette case there. So was definitely puffing away for the signings.

"Bette Davis is my life" - that's kind of extreme.
Not really. She was a gay icon, after all...
It's a figure of speech...
Just a tad.
Pre-Stroke?
This signing was one year before I was born.
no hassle same. I was born March 83

Love him!!! So pure!

Wow! Lots of gay guys there.
The interviewer/narrator looks very young.
What's the song at the beginning? Was this for some news channel?

Where and WHEN did you get the footage?

I meant, did you own a physical copy of the recording from 82 or did you later retrieved it from the vault? And was it from a VHS tape?
I own a copy. From 3/4" tape.
beautiful. rest easy my love
