@@arjay_2002 I disagree.. Logic gates are fundamental to programming/software. I wouldn't say it's "useless" per se. My first few programs were input/output from logic gates (countdown timer, elevator controls, simple calculator) and ultimately got me interested in learning programming languages. Buuuuttt I would agree if you just want to program in C# or Javascript, etc., would be better to just go straight for it.

@@gregdemko5732 Redstone can be used the mimic the "low voltage" and "high voltage" states of electricity, so it's a suitable source of power for machines in Minecraft.
You can then use a combination of levers/buttons and redstone blocks/torches/etc. to get the functionality of basic logic gates.
And you can go on from there to build some really cool stuff.
People have been creating redstonde computers in Minecraft for a while now.

I used it, daily, until I retired after 36 years. I was systems qualified in, number one ESS, tsps, traffic service position systems, number for ESS, First All Digital electronic switching system, number five ESS, first All Digital fiber optic system. All these systems are used in the Bell System for communication, that's how you telephone systems work. Today is October 1st 2022.

Very concise, clear explanation. Because I’m a visual learner, the one thing I would like to see at the end would be a simple example of doing an actual calculation with logic gates, just to give a taste of logic gates in action. _Telling_ me they form the building blocks of computer computations is one thing. _Showing_ them in action is much more satisfying.

Good! When I was a kid, the most common answers for "what do you want to be when your grow up." We're police officer, doctor, army man, astronaut (that's what I wanted to be!) even if you don't end up being an engineer, it's still good to have those aspirations!! Nowadays the most common answer is RUclips star....not that anything is intrinsically wrong with that, but it doesn't provide a great deal of value to society as a whole....

    6:07,
the way I see the XOR gate is that we are checking if the two bits are in an OR state AND in a NAND state (exactly what you see in the text, but it makes sense this way to me.). Look at the diagram, the AND gate is connected to an OR and a NAND gate (the AND followed by the NOT)
SO we check if its in a NOT AND state, and it is also an OR state basically, which essentially ends up ruling out the AND situation and also the both off situation as it must be an OR, keeping the OR states only.
