It looks like my referral link actually does give you a 75,000 MR Point offer, it just wasn't saying that on my end. So here's a link to the Amex Gold application page in case you want to use it: refer.amex.us/DANIEB9Ph0?XLINK=MYCP - Again, make sure that it says 75,000 points and not 60,000 if you are applying!
@@Jayyy_Wav keep trying at a few different times each day using incognito mode in Google Chrome. It should eventually come up but may take some tries. As far as I know, the offer is still out there as I was just able to see it the other day when I looked
Oh, you live in Philly, I just drove through there and stayed a day there! Solid tips as always though, Daniel! It's nice that you're transparent about not trying to get points yourself and that you want other people to get more points on their own.
Yeah I'm in Philly, living just outside the city now but lived there for a couple of years too, great city! Thanks Tyler, I just want people to get the best offers out there. Appreciate the support as always 👍
I got the Hilton Honors Surpass AMX about 6 weeks ago. Earlier this week, I was looking at the other American Express cards. I used the pre-approval page and applied for the Green card. I was approved but I withdrew my application. A few days later I was looking at the 60,000 point Gold Card offer. I didn't think it was high enough. I did a little more searching and found the 75,000 offer, applied and was approved. But I withdrew my offer. Something told me to wait. About 2 hours later I opened the same page and they offered me 90,000. I applied, was approved, and this time accepted. It's a nice car and I'm really happy how it turned out.
Thanks JP, appreciate the support man! Yeah I've been accumulating a bunch of MR points so I'll be looking to make good use out of those point transfers when I'm able to start traveling more again
THIS IS MY FAVORITE CARD AS OF RIGHT NOW. ♥ I had no idea there were some convenience stores in Uber Eats. Maybe Hawaii just doesn't have that available right now. Can't wait till you get those snazzy new Chase cards 👀
Me too! If I wasn't getting 10x back from my Platinum card welcome bonus, then this would get used a ton at grocery stores. Yeah I figured that out about convenience stores and actually I've been slacking this month so I'll probably do that Uber Eats trick again. Its kind of funny when I go to pick it up and they're so confused at why I ordered cleaning supplies and toothpaste on Uber Eats 😂
Great overview of the Amex gold! I always feel like a have a tough time using the credits for any card I have. Also you're crushing the game! I gotta talk to you about how you're getting so many views and seem to be riding the right waves. Keep up the good work
Yeah those credits can be tough to use sometimes, I’ve had the same challenge before! Thanks man, appreciate that! Would love to connect with you at some point. You’ve got a nice channel yourself so keep up the good work as well
Thanks, appreciate it! Yeah I missed out on that higher welcome bonus being offered now so I'm jealous of people getting it today. Always good to be aware of welcome bonuses!
One of your best videos! Super educational. You can also set your VPN to San Francisco and NYC. I've found these to be the highest welcome offer bonus locations.
Wow that’s a great offer! Hopefully you’ll be able to spend that 4K to get that bonus because that’s the highest I’ve seen. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the card! It’s one of my favorites
Absolutely! Philly is the best (go birds lol). That’s a great spot to use that credit for! I don’t really eat at shack shack because of some allergies unfortunately but I would definitely use the credit there if I could
Super helpful! I’ve never even noticed that you don’t get .01 per point when you use them on Amazon. That’s the main place I use them so I might have to change it up.
Thanks Coleman, glad you liked it! Yeah that’s something that I’m sure many people don’t really even notice because Amazon just sort of pushes it and makes it super easy. Thanks for the support as always man! 👍
I always thought the Uber cash credit carried over. Good thing I watched your video! Don’t change your life for a credit. See how a credit card fits into your life
I hear ya, I'm so over those rules too! I'm under the Chase 5/24 rule right now so I'll be taking advantage of that for the next few months but after that I'm just gonna go over 5/24 for a while. That's awesome that you got so many cards this year!
If you're not already spending money with Uber, GrubHub, or shake shack. You're losing money if you start using these services just because of the gold card. You're not losing your effective annual fee by paying for services you weren't previously using
Thanks John! Yeah always a good thing to keep in mind all of your options so paying attention to 5/24 is definitely important. Appreciate the early comment 👍
Unfortunately, I completed my Amex cash back trifecta (charles schwab platinum, gold, and BBP) a few months before they downgraded (ruined) the platinum card. Idk what to do now. Canceling these cards will affect my credit score and now I am stuck with the unjustifiable annual payments. Anyway, great video, as always! I am glad I was one of the early subscribers to your channel.
Yeah I was really not planning on them making all of those changes to the platinum card when I got it at the beginning of this year. Hopefully if you do have to cancel it won’t have too much of an impact. Definitely try to get retention offers from American Express as well because that could help! Appreciate you being one of those early subscribers! None of my channels growth would be possible without you and your support so thank you 👍
It’s only 10% of your report supposedly,You should see if you can downgrade to the Blue cash every day. The platinum cards fee is definitely steep if you’re not a big spender or flying on a regular basis.
Unfortunately since the Amex platinum is a charge card and not a true credit card, you can only downgrade to another Amex charge card within the same family. And the only 2 options there are the Golf card and the Green card (both of which have smaller annual fees compared to the platinum). So there’s no way to downgrade to no annual fee
I went ahead and cancelled them all. I just stuck with that set-up because it was the best cashback set-up for me. I am not looking for loans and I am never late on my credit card payments so the temporary hit that my FICO score will take is not as bad as the $950 I'd be burning every single year on Amex's cringetastic downgrade fest.
Sounds like the right decision for you then! The small credit score hit is only temporary but paying that much in annual fees is not worth it if you can justify it. Glad it looks like it worked out for you!
Great video, Daniel! Using that subscribe pillow as part of the Amazon example was so smooth. 😂 I'm going to get into Amex eventually, but for now, it just doesn't make sense for my situation. I do agree with building a Chase arsenal before jumping into Amex cause of the 5/24 rule.
Thanks Ryan! Lol yeah I was trying to find a creative way to mention subscribing in there. And that’s good to hear, no rush to get into their cards if it doesn’t make sense yet. Always good to consider the 5/24 rule!
I haven't reviewed that one but its a great card! Really helps to more than offset the annual fee of Amazon Prime. Always nice to get 5% back on Amazon and Whole Foods
New here Daniel! Mind me asking what your background is in finance, if any? Really enjoying your advice as I try and become more financially aware and responsible. Thank you sir!
Yeah it can be hard to keep track of all those benefits! That’s still a nice sign up bonus that you got since the gold card was offering some different benefits back then. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
In fact, it is not difficult if you only frequently check the offers in the AMEX application. In a month I have received 40 dollars in offers for purchases that I have made, for example, I made an online purchase at Kroger to pick up at the store for a value of 50 dollars Amex gave me 25 dollars for that purchase.
AMEX Gold saved my folks during the pandemic when cancelling their cruise. The big thing is, can you cover the fee? The restaurant credits are decent, as are the hotel discounts and points on dining. That being said, it's easy to get lost in the benefits, deals, etc. given how many there are, etc. It's become the "coupon book" credit card as many may say.
Great point, I would have to say I agree that Amex cards have become like a "coupon book" haha. Especially the Amex Platinum! It definitely takes an organized person to keep track of all the benefits and credits to make sure they get enough value to offset that annual fee. I personally can make it work because I get pretty nerdy and detailed with my credit cards lol but for others its definitely something to consider. Thanks for the comment here!
Good to hear you've paid a lot of your old debts! I'm definitely going to be making some more videos about credit score and other things like that but let me know if there's any video ideas that you specifically want to see
I mean the value of the new record bonus probably isnt that high considering inflation year after year. Im sure it will drop down once inflation starts to fall once again.
With the platinum card there are these bonus offers in the American Express app like for shipping. Kinda like a "spend $50 and get $50 off" for example. Comes in an email or you could keep up with it in app I believe and they change monthly. Does gold card offer that?
Good question! Yes the gold card offers that too and I've had a few offers that I've been able to use. The Platinum definitely has more and better offers though I would say
This card was practically made for New Yorkers haha! So many ways to use those credits in the city. Glad to hear you love your gold card, I love mine too!
For the most part I would not use this card for every purchase. But I would use it for all purchases at grocery stores and restaurants since it earns 4x points at those places. It all depends on how many cards you want to have but this could be a good card to at least have for food purchases as long as the numbers make sense in your scenario!
Both great options! I think Chase is better for most people because it has more flexible redemption options so I’ll probably make a video on that one first
Great video! I’m going back and forth between the Amex Green or Amex Hilton Surpass, for a sub $200 card. I might just get both because the Amex Green has nice features, but the Amex Hilton Surpass has the best bang for buck for non frequent travellers, it seems. And, free breakfast for non US hotels!
Thanks so much! Those are some cool cards to look into getting. I don't personally have either right now because I went for Chase cards first before getting into the Amex Gold and Platinum and now I'm back to getting some Chase cards. But in the future I might look at some of those that you mentioned as well, especially for the welcome bonuses they offer. Let me know if you decide to get either of them!
@@Daniel_Braun I’m definitely leaning towards getting the Hilton Amex Surpass first because it has 10 Priority lounge passes, while the Amex Green has a $100 LoungeBuddy credit which is two passes ($50 per visit) for my home airports (Dulles/IAD and National/DCA) but the Amex Green does has more prestige so I still want to get it after the Hilton Surpass in the future!
Sorry I just saw your reply comment but that sounds like a good plan! The priority pass lounges can be ok from what I’ve heard but honestly I haven’t been to one yet because they vary by airport
I cancelling the Gold. The Uber/uber eats credits is easy but grubhub is not big in my area, the closest Cheascake factory is an 1 hour, 40 min. I do not eat at Ruth's. Multipliers are awesome but I cannot offset AF.
Awesome overview of this card - thank you! Question… is the “once per lifetime” bonus limited to each AmEx category separately, or is it for any and ALL AmEx cards? Like if I have a BCP AmEx, and I got it with a welcome bonus, can I not get a welcome bonus ever in my life for a Gold or Platinum AmEx even though those are different card types?
Great question! I should have clarified that a bit. Its once per lifetime per card. So you can get 1 welcome bonus for the BCP, 1 bonus for the gold, 1 for the platinum, etc. Some other cards from companies allow you to get a welcome bonus on the same exact card multiple times, like with Chase and their Sapphire Reserve and Preferred cards, you can get a welcome bonus every 48 months by resigning up for the same card if you downgrade your old one. Hope that helps!
I've been on the fence about getting an AmEx Gold or Platinum. Today I received a targeted offer of 80,000 pts for the Gold Card. Is this a common occurrence right now since it's the holiday season?
Nice, that’s an offer that’s slightly higher than the normal public offer of 75,000 points. But I’d say it’s pretty common to get a targeted offer for that, I’ve even received one in the mail even though I have the card already haha
Yeah that's a huge benefit, I know another big finance RUclipsr Jake Broe took advantage of that with his credit cards that he got. Thanks for your service!
Question, if you do the gold card and get the bonus offer, does this mean that if you apply later for the platinum card and keep the gold as well, you would not get the 100,000 or other bonus for getting the card?
Great question! The once per lifetime bonus rule only applies for each individual card. So you can get 1 lifetime welcome bonus for the Gold card, 1 lifetime welcome bonus for the Platinum card, etc. With some other credit card companies like Chase, you can actually get a welcome bonus multiple times for the same card if you reapply after a certain amount of time (eligible for a welcome bonus on a Chase Sapphire card once every 48 months). So for me with Amex, I got the Gold card last year and received a 60k welcome bonus and then I got the Platinum card early this year and received a 100k welcome bonus. Hope that helps!
Your welcome bonus really helped to decide when to get an AMEX bonus. Now I'll wait for a bigger bonus whenever that maybe. I'm no hurry. Currently is 60k.
Glad to hear it! They do have a 75k offer out there now if you try a few times at different times of the day. When I checked my referral link, they were giving out that offer earlier today. So check out Amex's website if you're interested in that offer which I think is pretty good!
How much would you say you’d have to spend on the card yearly on food or groceries to break even and/or come on top of the AF. I discount the credits a lot because I don’t use any of those services.
Yeah then its just more of a math equations to figure out how much to spend to break even. If you got the full 100% value of the credits, the effective annual fee goes from $250 down to $10 and you would need to spend $250 on groceries + dining over the year to breakeven. On the other hand, if you get 0 value from the credits, then the effective annual fee remains $250 and you would have to spend $6,250 on groceries and dining each year to breakeven. This is assuming each point you earn is worth 1 cent per point conservatively. So depending on how you value the credits, you would have to spend between $250 and $6,250 to breakeven on this card. That's why its so important to actually value the credits before applying because I would recommend you not get the card based on what you said. There's better options for you out there for dining and groceries with lower or no annual fees. Hope that helps, thanks for the comment and question!
Love the attention to detail and presentation of your videos! It was videos like this that inspired me to start my own channel just yesterday. Keep smashing it dude 👏🏼👏🏼
Good video. The card really benefits chefs 👨🍳 👩🍳, couples, and nuclear families. Especially those in San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta, New York, and Boston.
I got a American express applying paper in the mail today and I didn't ask for it.. But the awards points was $80,000 when u spend $10,000 in the first 3 month.. But I just started my business and im afraid to apply for it and may not used the card in that 3 month time to get the point.. What u think?
I got the gold a couple weeks ago. I got an offer of 75,000 MR pts with a 5k spend within 3 months. Kind of aggressive, from some of the offers I’ve head about.
Daniel - just as a piece of friendly advice, don't buy household goods or toiletries at a convenience store. You're paying an arm and a leg. Go to a Dollar Tree store :)
Lol don't worry I totally agree! I usually buy in bulk and shop for the cheapest prices per unit for those items. I only do that thing I talked about in the video as an absolute last resort for using the Uber credit just so it doesn't go to waste. Would rather get something for the credit than nothing. Obviously I'm not getting the full value of the credit for exactly that reason because those things are soooo overpriced at those stores haha. Thanks for the comment!
Do you mean for tracking your spending towards your welcome bonus? For that you might just have to look at previous statements to see the totals that you've spent since you opened the account. Or download an app called MaxRewards that I use because that has a bonus tracker feature
Yeah I really wish they could be like Chase and offer that as the bare minimum for redemptions. Chase definitely wins when it comes to flexibility with point redemptions
Nice! Its a great card in my opinion. I've got another video coming out about the Amex Gold for a 1 year review and my thoughts on it which I should be posting later today
Good question, I would say that this can probably hurt your approval odds due to your credit score impact from that. I would get that account sorted out first before getting a card like the Amex gold
With the help of RUclips this 20 year old (me) has the Amex platinum, Amex gold, Amex everyday, discover it , Apple Card, chase freedom unlimited and a Best Buy store card
Amex point valuation is too low. To many restrictions on clawing back AF. No escape route for AMEX Gold. Chase isn't perfect, but at least 95$ is easily redeemed and categories are broad.
Yeah I think Chase is the best option for most people. The Sapphire Preferred is a great card to give some nice benefits and redemptions for a low annual fee
The Gold Card doesn't sound very exclusive if you have to order cleaning products from 7-11 to use the credits. Only cash back no AF cards for me. I don't spend enough to use these annual fee cards. Business-class seats aren't worth it.
Cards like the Amex Gold are definitely not for everyone and I can't argue that cash back cards are a better option in many cases for people! I personally like all of the credits and benefits here so its makes the annual fee offset for me pretty easily. But dont worry, when I talked about using the credit at a 7-11 for household items, that is an absolute last resort way for me to use the credits just so they don't go to waste. Normally, I find much better ways to use the credits. Thanks for the comment!
80k points is a really great offer for the Amex Gold card that could be good to take if the card makes sense for you like I've talked about in a few different videos!
in the past I shied away from the Gold Card because of the $250 fee. But now in my mind it really doesn't exist, because I do $20 monthly in carryouts anyway. To me it feels like a no annual fee card that has solid rewards earning.

The Platinum definitely has more and better offers though I would say
just got 90,000 dude! they just upped it.
Solid advice. Keep up the great work 🔥
Thanks so much Dustin! Big fan of your channel so I appreciate it! 👍
Some great sound advice. Enjoyed the vid!
Thanks so much! Appreciate it 👍
@@Daniel_Braun Your welcome.
Love the gold card so much. I’m a NY’r and so it’s my daily driver
This card was practically made for New Yorkers haha! So many ways to use those credits in the city. Glad to hear you love your gold card, I love mine too!
Would it be a good idea to make this my everyday driver for all of my purchases and bills? I’d be switching it from my Navy Fed card.
For the most part I would not use this card for every purchase. But I would use it for all purchases at grocery stores and restaurants since it earns 4x points at those places. It all depends on how many cards you want to have but this could be a good card to at least have for food purchases as long as the numbers make sense in your scenario!
@@Daniel_Braun Ok that makes sense. Thank you!
@@tblub.9270 Happy to help!
Great video! I would love to see a video on how you maximize travel benefits across your cards.
That’s definitely a video that’s on my list! I want to do one talking about my Chase cards as well as one about my American Express cards
@@Daniel_Braun Can't wait for them! I've been debating between the two ecosystems for a while.
@@Daniel_Braun oh ok! Usually the Turkish airlines lounges (priority pass) are pretty good!
@@Daniel_Braun Ah, nice. Phew! Haha. Thanks for the quick response! I’m a fairly new subscriber and really enjoy your videos. Great job. :)
Anytime, happy to help! Thanks for subscribing, appreciate that! Let me know if there’s ever any videos that you want to see me make
I've been on the fence about getting an AmEx Gold or Platinum.
The annual fee is waived on all Amex cards for active military so for me this cards a no brainer
Wait this is really helpful! I was going to apply for a Gold card to add to my suite of cards. I will definitely rethink it!
Glad to hear it was helpful! Yeah definitely some things to consider before applying! Thanks for the comment 👍
I just got that sign up bonus for 75k. Just got my card last week! I also live in Philly. Well A bit outside Philly but close
Awesome, its a small world! Great to hear that you got the 75k sign up bonus, I'm jealous since I only got 60k last year!
Thank you for that very thorough breakdown on the math to break even and/or come on top! I really appreciate your time for doing that!
No problem! I really appreciate you watching my video so I’m happy to help 👍
Subbing because I’m big philly fan from out of philly
Awesome, I love to hear that! Good to have another Philly person here on the channel!
I got a 90000 welcome bonus spending $4000 in 6 month! love this offfer
Love the attention to detail and presentation of your videos! It was videos like this that inspired me to start my own channel just yesterday. Keep smashing it dude 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks so much, I appreciate that! Great choice to start a channel right now. Keep grinding with it and it will pay off! I'll be sure to check it out
@@Daniel_Braun Fingers crossed - I can definitely see so far that it's a long haul!
Another super helpful video. Very thorough as always.
Thanks Bart, appreciate it! Glad it was helpful 👍
I got the Amex gold with a 90k point bonus 🤯 my first Amex
Wow, that's a great offer! Nice!
Good video. The card really benefits chefs 👨🍳 👩🍳, couples, and nuclear families. Especially those in San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta, New York, and Boston.
Thanks so much! Yeah I agree, the people living in major cities like those really can get the most out of the Gold card!
Woww!! i love your explanations bro!
Glad to hear it! Thanks so much 👍
Thanks for sharing about this credit card, I am trying to build credit 😂
Thanks for watching! Definitely a good thing to build up your credit
how do I know if im gonna get points. I don't have that meter like with other credit cards?
Do you mean for tracking your spending towards your welcome bonus? For that you might just have to look at previous statements to see the totals that you've spent since you opened the account. Or download an app called MaxRewards that I use because that has a bonus tracker feature
I got extremely lucky and got a 90K point offer!
Amex not offering 1 MR point = 1 cent as a bare minimum statement credit backup redemption option is a dealbreaker for me.
Yeah I really wish they could be like Chase and offer that as the bare minimum for redemptions. Chase definitely wins when it comes to flexibility with point redemptions
@@Daniel_Braun Yeah, that's one reason I am keeping my Chase Sapphire Preferred active, though my patience is wearing thin now with CSP multipliers
Yeah I wondering when we will hear if the rumored changes are true. Could very very soon that those multipliers get updated!
Great video! Very informative!
Thanks so much Edgar, I really appreciate the support! 👍
I just got pre approval offer of 80k points.. I think I might apply
Nice! Its a great card in my opinion. I've got another video coming out about the Amex Gold for a 1 year review and my thoughts on it which I should be posting later today
I have a small amount in collections. Do you think Amex would deny me for gold for that?
Good question, I would say that this can probably hurt your approval odds due to your credit score impact from that. I would get that account sorted out first before getting a card like the Amex gold
If you need help with removing any collections i have my own credit repair company. We can discuss further if your interested
Applied this week and got a 90000 bonus offer
Thank you my friend for sharing, nice video, seee you again, good luck......like........................................
Thanks so much!
For the 4x dining points, is that only for sit down restaurants or does it work for regular fast food restaurants as well?
Great question, any restaurants count for 4x points, including fast food!
Great video! Go buy that pillow!
Thanks! Haha I bought the pillow and had it in the background of a few other previous videos for a few months
my welcome bonus for the gold card was 90,000!!!!
subbed ! i love amex
Awesome, appreciate it! I'll be sure to check out your channel as well
Great video!
Thanks so much Erik! Glad to hear you liked it 👍
Drinking game: take a sip every time he says points, I proomsi yuo si not dat hurd bor
😂 This just became my favorite comment on this video! I should have added a counter at the bottom for the number of times I said that
With the help of RUclips this 20 year old (me) has the Amex platinum, Amex gold, Amex everyday, discover it , Apple Card, chase freedom unlimited and a Best Buy store card
What do you mean by restrictions/no escape root? Especially compared to platinum or chase sapphire
2:44 - 2:50 - Actually, I was thinking, “WTF! Why do they have to make it so difficult to use these credits?!?! What a scam!”
They do make it pretty tough to use these cards sometimes!
i got mine a couple of days ago and i was able to get the 75000 intro offer
Awesome, congrats on the new card! You’ll enjoy it. Glad to hear that you got that higher offer, I’m jealous lol
Please can you put the subtitles in Spanish good video!
I want to soon have good subtitles in both English and Spanish so I will work on that! Sorry that there are not Spanish subtitles available yet
Alas. I tried to be first but Michael cuda beat me!
Haha he's always on it, tough to beat him to the first comment! Thanks for the early comment as well Matthew, appreciate the support as always 👍
I got an offer for 80k points, just asked for my card
80k points is a really great offer for the Amex Gold card that could be good to take if the card makes sense for you like I've talked about in a few different videos!
Thanks for your youtubes
Thanks for watching and commenting Aaron! 👍
@@Daniel_Braun you are welcome. Have you looked into the PNC cash builder visa signature card?
I haven’t looked into that one much. Looks like it offers a tiered cash back approach so not sure that I would want to get it right now
@@Daniel_Braun no its not a tiered cash back. Its 1.75% cash back on all purchases no matter what it is.
Interesting, could be a good option if you use PNC then. There’s also some 2% cards out there so those could be good options too
I get kinda distracted with your good looks but really good information, keep the great content coming :)
Lol thanks! Will do, more content coming every week! Thanks for the comment 👍
Got 90k for Amex gold. Anyone else have a similar offer?
Yep
Goober eats
😂
in the past I shied away from the Gold Card because of the $250 fee.
But now in my mind it really doesn't exist, because I do $20 monthly in carryouts anyway. To me it feels like a no annual fee card that has solid rewards earning.
