Having a villain that's treated like a joke for so long suddenly make an unexpected comeback and gain enough confidence to fight their way to the top is my favorite.
A lot of their strength levels feel at least partially subjective, but Gideon’s biggest strength has always been his mastery over “The Glow” which amplifies his opponent’s negative traits. Normally that’s very useful in a lot of fights, introducing doubts, making them reckless and highlighting weaknesses. But in the fight against Matthew it would be a hindrance because it most likely would just enhance the overconfidence that drove him to make this challenge in the first place. At that point it just becomes a straight fight. (Also I’m pretty sure Matthew may have leveled up when he beat Scott and that’s where those Shiva Stand arms came from) We’d have to see him go against some of the others for a clearer picture of the power levels, since most of them have more traditional forms of strength.
I get the feeling the writers knew Satya Bhabha’s performance was too good for a bottom-tier jobber and had to give Matthew the glow up of his life to compensate.
Interesting how Matthew didn't even care about Scott being alive. His true motivation was being an actor and when he accomplished that he wanted to keep it that way and leave the past behind
tbf he admitted it himself, going and killing scott was a pointless venture, he didnt get the girl and he just killed some random innocent guy, might as well chase his dreams since he inherited gordons empire after beating his ass
He was basically given the Spot treatment. He was treated like a joke in the comics and movie. And then the show gives him a bigger, more significant role.
I mean Spot was only treated like a joke by Spiderman fans, in the comics he was always a serious threat, and when he fought Daredevil he even got horror movie villain status.
I love what the show does for Matthew. He was always the most iconic Ex to me despite his lack of time to really do anything. His stage presence was all he had, but this show gave him the confidence and grace to actually accomplish shit and I love every second of it.
Considering Patel's genuine psychic powers and "hipster demon chicks" its not a surprise that once he has the confidence boost from beating Scott hes one of the most powerful members of the League.
