The state of elite goaltending in Canada is bad and it's had serious repercussions in the NHL. Something went off the rails in youth goalie development over the years and no meaningful corrections were made, because it feels like we just expect things to self-correct. I can only imagine how much better player development would have been if Hockey Canada had spent the same amount on goalie development as they have on hush money over the years. Continued mediocre goaltending at the highest levels means less role-models to inspire kids to become goalies. Parents don't like the extra expense of goaltending kit and are going to feel there's more opportunities as a skater to find a roster spot than as a goalie.
Levi will be the face of candian tenders in the coming years.

Goaltending is a non factor when Bobrovsky can win a cup after getting blasted and chased losing 8-1. Or when Skinner almost won a cup after one of the worst starts in franchise history. Coaching makes for good goaltending. Knoblauch proved this.
Then why don’t all teams put a minimum wage goalie in net?
