- In this video we explain how to professionally protect spinet and upright pianos for moving. Our customers often ask how we prepare pianos to be moved, so we decided to create this video as a visual reference. To be clear, we do not recommend moving a piano by yourself and we always recommend hiring a professional piano mover. However, due to the overwhelming questions that we have been receiving, we created this visual representation to explain how a professional piano mover would perform this task. Please do not try this at home. This is not an easy task and should only be performed by trained professional piano movers.

Hey love your videos! I left a comment on one of your older videos where you moved a 9 footer with one other person. You used a tool that I wanted to get the name of but couldn't quite make out through the audio. I think I heard "J Bore"? you used it to leverage up the piano while the other side rested on a block in order to take off the dolley. Definitely useful when you have such a heavy piano. What's it called and where can I find one?
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you enjoy our videos. It really means a lot to us. The tool that you are referring to is a "Johnson Bar". We call it a J-Bar for short. I'll do a video explaining what it is and how to use it, but in the meantime, I have linked the amazon version of a J-Bar below for you. The J-Bar we have is modified to have a longer pry. The original configuration is too small for pianos. We had a local welder extend the metal plate for us. Our J-Bar is made of wood with a metal pry and has been a part of our business for more than 60 years. It's a strong reliable tool. Unfortunately, I can't speak for the amazon version, but it looks similar.

@ thanks for the detailed response. I’m looking forward to seeing your video with the tool in action. Before you get to that video would you share how long of an extension you had welded on?
@@yevvvy908 I honestly don't remember how long it is and I'm not at the shop today. I'll make sure I detail the specs of the J-Bar in our video.
