Appreciate the Ignition update. Teaching three of my engineering classes at Penn College Ignition along with the UNS architecture. We are starting with using the docker compose file developed in Mentorship to set up our IIoT environment. Our awesome IT department set us up with VMs from Azure so that we have persistent configurations.
Awesome! 🙏
Great Video Walker. Many of my conversations around IT/OT Interoperability circle around Walker's most common phrase "Our smart things need to talk to our other smart things". Ignition makes that easy.
🙏 Thank you!
Ignition is incredible software. OIDC authorization/authetication + reverse proxy + perspective has been an amazing combo for me.
If possible, Aveva comparison & pros and cons. Thanks for all you work, and videos!
Great idea - 💡 We will get this on the schedule.
That would be interesting. I see more people trying to get out from Aveva,
I second this request. Would be a great comparison video!
Thank you walker! Would love to see an iiot platform comparison. Ignition vs litmus vs siemens vs aveva vs Rockwell (their respective iiot offering).
I’m working on this - 🙏
Tier List!
@4.philipines have million kilos of gold0Solutions
Appreciate your transparency and openness. At the end what counts are the values that are perceived by the end user : 1. capabilities of the product 2.it´s business/license model (easy to get /install / test without rep involvement) 3. Stability and loyalty of the software company owners to focus on creating value within end-customers.
Absolutely!
kudos to Inductive Automation for the idea of PMI, and the consistency of its team members and values over the years
very insightful👏
Will you be reviewing Optix from Rockwell? Curious what your thoughts are
Yes - I will be this quarter. 🙏
Even just downloading and installing Optix (which can be developed in for free - a big plus), literally takes like 8gig in like 6 different parts.... and then it ruins your windows after install it all........
even then it doesn't have a 2 hour trial to test.
I wish i had other background with other systems, just seems like Optix is missing some critical tools like search and replace. Doing alot of AB work nice for tag udt integration
Great content as always!
🙏
Great Insight!!
You mentioned that the ignition historian is one of its weak points, but didn’t provide any reason - I’m a relatively new to industry (3 yr) systems integrator whose primary experience is in Ignition development. What is “wrong” with their historian? Love your videos btw.
I was wondering the same thing.
Also, same here 😂 hello friend!
I’ll do this in follow up - in a nutshell, SQL backed is inefficient, and the algorithm used to store data drops too many data points. 🙏
It's not a true process historian, it's a sql historian.
Is it a good fit for Oil/Gas and Petrochemical refineries where many systems are integrated from OPC up to ERP?
100% - the only additional consideration is handling EFM records (Kepware).
absolutely!
@4.0Solutions I believe Litmus can be a better option since AI is embedded in it
I have clients asking for Ignition even when its a basic standalone simple machine. Pretty annoying.
Ignition Edge Panel?
I totally get that though 😅
LOL!
What do you think of Siemens Industrial Edge?
They are moving in the right direction. Siemens needs to make tia portal free.
@@NivArb why are they two separate products is a better question. When I am programming a Siemens PLC, I'm using TIA portal. And I remember licensing always being a pain / expensive. I hope they are getting it right when it comes to "Edge"
Going down the Optix rabbit hole, lord help me now
Where did you endup?
@donnybaby8049 Machine will be in run off next week. Very mixed bag developing with this software. My background was HMIs Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, and such. Basic tools like search and replacement are not there. I have to remember to remove object linking with PLC tags before i copy otherwise, it ruins the orginal links and without search and replace is a waste of time to try to correct. They are getting a lot better with newer versions, and pricing and hardware options are pretty damn good.
@donnybaby8049 by hardware options, they have pc in same form factor as hmi
🤔…Excelente 🤝🇻🇪
🙏
Ignition is great platform, but IMHO not the best one
Maybe you're right for the US market, but not here in Europe/Germany
Which platform would you say is best?
Sorry, i was wrong in one of my previous statement. I apologize. Ignition like 'OPC Router' can be both be deployed using docker
what is the best in your opinion?
Curious of your thoughts about FactoryTalk Optix
Walker will be doing a review on Optix this month - 💪
@@4.0Solutions ohhh looking forward for that!
