Hey Clarence. I just came looking for this version again. Didn’t realise it’s been nine years! Still love it. And I also remember you playing this with Betty. She was completely one with her bands and the music❤️👏🎶❤️
This is the best version ever of my favorite Betty BeBop tune. She swings her ass off on this and a lot of it had to do with that band. Wow----Branford, Kenny, Tain, and Hurst. This should be required listening for every jazz singer.
I have seen this woman so many times, I miss her. She helped so many young pianists and her presence filled the whole room. I have yet to see anyone who could master scatting in as Dame Betty did.
One of the greatest masters of the form. But I have good news for you. Samara Joy is working hard to fill those massive shoes. Just saw her at Town Hall do this and she was on it. So young and already a master at scatting. Can’t wait to see where she is in 5 years. Just starting out on what will be an incredible career.
Hey Clarence. I was a bass player at Berklee and knew Cyrus at the time. I was in the room when he was introduced to her for the first time and he accompanied her on Body and Soul. You could tell at the time she loved playing with him. "Tight" was always one of my favorite songs; "The Audience With Betty Carter" was in my collection like the week it came out. Great record, great song, Great Lady.
Every time I watch her on video, it reminds me of all of the times we spent together at her home in New York with her sons. She was just as talented at home as she was on the stage. I really miss her! But, my memories of her will live on...
Wow the ideas flowing out of Betty's instrument will challenge any instrumentalist and did, which is why the young lions all came up under her tutelage.
Under recorded jazz master! When it comes to scat singing and inventing on the spot the way a master musician would play his or her instrument, I can't think of any one who did it better than Ms Betty Carter and Leon Thomas. There are some other geniuses who did it with demonic delight, but Betty and Leon are my favorites.
I remember this on TV quite well!! Betty is BETTY!! Only one of a kind in her own right! When is performed at Fat Tuesdays in NYC. I was there! RIP Ms. Carter!
But...the quickest version that I`ve heard for sure. I remember the one on "The audience with..." Like a slow medium, right? But the energy in this one is soo strong. Love both versions.
Yeah our sistah is on point never missing a beat! A tribute our dear Brother, Vincent Orlando Jackson who made his transition this week. May he rest In power and in Peace 🙏 My fellow Music and Art Student. He was a brilliant 🎨 Artist, lover of jazz and people, bringing laughter, Jokes with smiles whenever he was around. Missing him 😢 but certain that he is painting bringing beauty laughter 💕 and emanating good energy. Away but always remembered never forgotten with love in our Hearts 💕 ♥️ 💜 Always your Gang!!
Miss Carter was a regular performer at our small club in Lakewood, NJ. So many young talents accompanied her. Just a wonderful trea see her with one of my favorite horn players. What a groove she cut. Miss her dearly. TIGHT!
madame Betty, always reserved a seat for me. I am one of her biggest fans since i was 12 when they thought her unorthodox with the braids and what is now called locks. Dreadful she was not, in Europe she was accepted. The queen of bee bop and left behind a legacy that can never be filled. All the young neophytes she had play with her...I hope they appreciate the experience. I will miss you Madame Carter.
We played this song a lot and it was one of my favorites to play with her..
What is the name of the song?
@@mariamanna1148 "Tight"

Mr. Penn, if you sat under Betty Carter, I know you got the right thing. Always heard she ran a tight ship.
@@cathybroadus4411 Hi Cathy, you are so right! A very tight, tight ship indeed!
