Three tips you might like to try:
1. If your paint doesn't flow well, add a tiny bit of flow medium such as Floetrol. Only a smidge on at a time. You can always add more.
2. Use a paint brush or rod of similar length & thickness to put the bauble on whilst you work on it. If it fits well it should be easy to control.
3. Use an old cardboard box. Turn it upside down. Stick little holes in it to put all your baubles (on brushes, wooden spoons, dowel, etc) on a platform & you can work on several at a time. I've done this tonight for a bunch of hanging long sticks so I can spray paint them all at once.
