this really isn't a recent trend tho. it has been like that pretty much since video games have became a thing. first person shooters used to be widely referred to as "doom clones" and any game with a dedicated dodge button or a corpse run mechanic released in the past 10 years was inevitably called a "soulslike".

Now there are some people who will attempt to use this a term of threatening the developers. And also there is another game called enchanted portals that has also been called a Cuphead clone. It hasn’t been able to shake the stigma and because it has Native Americans riding buffalo it has now been called racist great this kind of thing is getting annoying at this point I am if there are still some people trying to say that currently and respectfully inform them that the developers have stated that offending people was not their intention, and that they have changed it to wild west people riding a buffalo with guns the wild west chickens have guns not the buffalo, so yes, I feel like enchanted portals has had just the same amount of pain that this game went through and here’s another thing they got in common. They eventually were accepted, but as for enchanted portals. It was promptly no longer accepted and then got accepted again. So yes while the clone calling thing is frustrating. You have to admit sometimes calling a game a clone could be used as constructive criticism. Thanks saying your game looks too similar to one another and one. Maybe you should focus and hone your own art style see that’s how calling a game a clone can be used as constructive criticism. These people do not mean as constructive criticism, but maybe you could convince them to you’ll never know.

the game doesn't look half bad and i know this is very loosely based on actual japanese folklore with the inspirations being anime and all, but i really hope the creators take a second look at those location names lol. names like "sakura city" and "midori forest" give off a very gimmicky and inauthentic vibe, it's like if a japanese studio made a game based in a world resembling america and called their locations stuff like "hamburger city" or "cave of liberty" or smth.
People should be happy about all the Hollow Knight inspired titles, It means that HK has resonance, And the ripples of that are starting to show through the indie industry. But since they aren't, How about i tell them about my favorite Hollow clone, Guacamelee! and Guacamelee! 2!
When you go check out a potential game to support but then you notice that it has hand drawn sprites rendered in a 3D environment (apparently that means it's a hollow knight clone)
As a developer of a hand-drawn metroidvania, this is very relatable. Bo is looking absolutely amazing and I'm sure that it will be an incredible experience.
I am hand drawing a metroidvania as well. But mine looks like The Last Faith and Blasphemous. I think the biggest reason for people comparing to Hollow Knight is the coat with arms covered and the quick slashes. It's warranted at this point but from a visual perspective I dont see Hollow Knight when looking at the game
I hate when people call a game a clone of another when it's the same genre of that other one Like metroidvanias being called HK clones or platform fighters being called smash bros clones

Honestly, after watching their latest trailer, I've got more Ori vibe than HK. Did those HK's accusers even bother to watch any trailer at all? Or all the "RIP-OFF" shouts are from screenshots alone?
The thing is even when it comes to games like crowsworn, that has a way more similar style to HK, I am pretty confident, that Team Cherry weren't the first to use this exact style. I wouldn't even go that far and say people get inspired by HKs style in particular, but rather see that it was a huge success and therefore is something people probably want.
At this point, I believe Silksong is a fictional concept, sth ideal & beautiful to give us hope to go on & keep innovating & trying; Just like what Vinland was to the Vikings & Norse people. It is... a beautiful dream

once i by a new computer I'm gonna make a Starveio, Don't Starve (+together), And FNAF inspired Videogame. why I'm talking about it here is that i want to implement a perk system akin to Hallow Knight's charm system. i'm even questioning whether or not to have a overload mechanic (would probably be long the lines of: you take __% more damage, Hunger thirst and sleep drain __% faster, the main bad guy moves towards you __% faster, and x2 score :D [which can be a double edged sword, considering the main guy moves towards #1 constantly when it's dark].)
the title of this video is part of the problem, also id recommend giving more context about the metroidvania genere and larger inspirations. this video gives off "person who has only played hollow knight/ori" energy when making comparisons, not understanding what inspired hollow knight or others.

Giving a peek of the general world design is good for backers (who function like shareholders) but I think players would actually prefer to have no scope of how big the game is when they played it. Shouldntve really showed it in the video but it's like 5 seconds so who cares lol
The characters, backrounds and effects pop out at exactly the same level. Holoknight had a clear distinction of what was the background and the foreground, clear outlines for the characters and a blurry/glowy effect for all projectiles. In Bo's case I can see why some people are calling it ugly. It is very visually busy. Some simple brightness and blur changes would help the game be a lot more clean.

As someone who is about to make a metroidvania, getting compared with HK seems like a blessing for me.

Hollow knight didn't invent 2d the hand drawn art style.
