- mmm, well, I know this isn't going to be a vid many people get excited about but its what I felt like finishing right now. its a quiet character piece because Scully and my feelings.
I love her character's complexity as Ive said before- she is tremendously strong but also has these carefully hid black hole vulnerabilities that pull at her. She is drawn to the things that terrify/endanger her (including Mulder) and puts herself in that path deliberately but then fights against it on some level trying to protect herself. She is simultaneous believer AND self-imposed skeptic- and so Scully is contradiction and this creates a constant 'push-pull' effect in her personality where she changes in her life not linearly but instead spirals- at war with herself internally. I think its clear as early as season 1 that she loves Mulder ('I love this job" is very coded to me- really Scully, the JOB? no its about Mulder who is a perfect storm for her) but she also fights against that feeling. Mulder also is conflicted by his need to have Scully by his side and his need to protect her from what he brings into her life...
I also wanted to suggest how by the time of IWTB, she seemed so defeated to me- living in her vulnerabilites and not her strength at the time of that movie- which IS what she does, but is also a big reason I do not want the XF series to end there- I don't want to see it end there for my hero-- its not the right end for her imho. I love that you can analyse X-Files like a good book and it holds up, lol x)
All the quotes I used are supposed to reverberate off each other and tie together but because of the spacing in the vid, I don't know if its immediately obvious- hopefully it will come through.

Wow. This made my cry. Scully is such a tragic character. Her arc in seasons 8 and 9 broke me. Losing Mulder. Losing her son. This is a gorgeous character study of one of the greatest female characters to be written. Well done.
The reason I love x files is the characters, Scully so strong yet vulnerable inside. She is an amazing Actress. She can't live with or without Mulder. Such a complicated relationship.
This is utterly magnificent. What a celebration of Scully, her unbelievable strength and her profound fragility, how she balances the two in perfect flawed humanity. Wow. The next time someone asks me, "why do you love the X-files so much?" I'm going to point them to this vid. It says it all. Thank you for making this.
OK, so everytime I think that I've found my favorite Scully video, I find something even better yet - this one is absolutely breathtakingly perfect! There isn't anything I can say that you or someone else hasn't said about it here, so let me just say how much I agree with your description - especially the constant conflict in her /and him/ - her never-ending battle with her own fears, her pride, her faith, her conscience, and of course being immensely attracted to Mulder and his "authority" - the "father figure", the leader - yet fighting tooth and nail to "keep things simple" and "in line", to maintain her independence and EQUALITY - "I don't want him to feel like he has to protect me", yet wanting to protect him - throughout the show she's expressed literally motherly feelings/instincts towards him so many times... and the same goes for him - like you said - he knows he NEEDS her, yet wants to protect her from himself and also I think that to him she really is somewhat "unattainable" in the sense of him not even considering asking her out or making any pass, because in his mind that would degrade the level of their relationship that is based on so much more than just the undeniable attraction /"of course it's there... it has always been there.... but it's not gonna happen..."/ - it's the very essence of love, the deep bond rooted in friendship and absolute trust that they don't have for anyone else in the world... They do not have anyone but each other in the whole world - and the responsibility they carry for each other must be frightening... as well as the fear of losing each other - even losing the other in admitting their true feelings.... because honestly - once it's out there ;), then what... so it's the constant tension - the "push-pull" that managed to keep us on edge not only through 9 seasons, but through the tremendous gaps between the movies - and now, 7 years later - the loooooong awaited grand finale - where yes, hopefully, she deserves her "happy ending", a gratification of all that she's lived for... because like you said, you cannot have her lose EVERYTHING in the darkness after all that she/they have been through... I am almost afraid to get my hopes up, but I hope against hope that she will get what she deserves - including "the one she fell in love with because of his stubbornness and passion" - the two qualities that she possesses, too, and has always been afraid that they might swallow her whole... I can't see the two of them ever being able to exist without each other, because by now they are ONE...
I also wanted to mention /because it obviously hasn't been mentioned enough ;)/, how of course it's all Gillian who actually built this character and we can watch her grow and mature right in front of our very eyes, which is so fascinating... Their personalities and life-styles couldn't be more different, yet the parallels are amazing... she always mentions her own conflicts and "demons" - the very basic ones, the constant battle between good or bad, doing the right thing for herself and others and not giving a damn... her tendencies to self-destruction and how much it takes to overcome those and "stay on the bright side"... THAT is what made Scully - and what's the very essence of Stella Gibson now... she truly is the mature version of Scully - or at least in my mind she is - and that's where I want to see her in the new season - I need for her to finally get out there and get whatever the hell she wants and needs for HERSELF, whatever it takes...
I have to thank you for all your amazing comments! What continues to attract me to making vids- it's a way to connect with other awesome fans of this show and we are our own breed of people. As a group of female fans, we tend to be strong minded and complex people who are drawn to Xfiles because of Scully, who is still unique in the world of television as a fully realized and realistic and also incredibly strong, smart, and noble female character that we emulate...but in her vulnerabilities we can also identify with how hard it sometimes is...Thankyou for sharing your thoughts with me ❤️

She is beatiful.I always wanted to be like her - to keep everything under control. But unfortunately I have lost control of my life.
yes she is but the thing about Scully is she had the outward appearance of control when in fact she often felt she had none- that was one of her big inner struggles. And that takes nothing away from the fact of her being a very strong person none-the-less so don't lose hope- most of us feel out of control at some point in our lives.
Sometimes being in control is a double edged sword. Both good and bad.

@@snakey973 exactly. That’s why it was so important for others to see her as “in control” , bc inside she was a bit of a mess and didn’t feel like she had any control. That is what is so beautiful and relatable about her character.

Watching this, it literally sucked me in..it's such a profound character study. The scenes & voiceovers you picked and the way you arranged them amazingly capture the essence of such a complex character in such a short time and goes a bit further by allowing the viewer to relate to it on a more personal level. This conflict that you describe, her strength and vulnerability are what drew me to the character, and what moves me to this day . A definite favorite!

In fact, even after all these years, it's a bit of a shock every time I remember she isn't.
Great video as ever. I always loved the character of Dana. And IMO you showed her vulnerability just perfectly. I guess she always tried to be strong 'cause she never wanted to disappoint her dad and even in her job she never wanted show weakness in such a masculine domain. She even tried not to let Mulder see her weak side, I guess because she wanted to prove to him that she's worth working with him. Anyway I love such quiet videos, especialy this one. :)

My best friend since middle school (Im 9th grade) and I idolized scully and I started freaking out when I saw that you had put out a video focusing on her. I absolutely love this video! Scully is such a deep and complex character, and this video perfectly portrays that. I'm sure all of these traits of hers will come into play in season 11!
Ugh. Stop it, you're hurting my feelings! I am actually in tears right now, you're videos are always perfect in every way that a fan video/tribute could be. I love that you've done a character piece on Scully, she's the best part of The X-Files (let's be honest, she is) and you've managed to capture everything about her. One of my favourite things about Scully was that although she was strong there were things in her life that she was uncertain about, things in her life that she questioned and things that went wrong. I think it's important to showcase a strong character but to give them faults and weaknesses too.
Don't ever think people won't be excited for your videos, every time I log on and see there is something new I'm jumping up and down with excitement.

I think the reason she has stuck with me all these years is because of how complex and nuanced she is- brave and courageous in spite of her powerful fears and insecurities, very intelligent yet also deeply emotional, such a very good person yet with a dark side she hides and suppresses - I've just always found her fascinating too 😊 more than any other character I've come across, they created Scully to last
Ok, it's time to rewatch the series... again (again, again). So beautiful, as always. Scully's such a complex, STRONG character. I always loved that part where Mulder asks her if she's ok, but he uses her first name. I love how she re-iterates the use of her first name, almost under her breath. They're so beautiful. Another masterpiece!

Dont know what to say. Maybe "brilliant job!" isnt enough.
I know I say this over and over, but you really make great videos! I agree that IWTB should not be the end of Scully's character. I look up to her as one of the strongest female leads in a TV series, if not the strongest. I love everything about her character and the relationship she has with Mulder, even if in some ways they are dangerous for each other. They were always meant to be together because they understand and love each other on a deeper level than I think most people in relationships in real life even can. However, I felt that Scully's character seemed defeated in IWTB. It's not that I don't think she's strong anymore. She always will be, but I think the whole William thing has been tearing her up. I think all of us X-Philies deserve more answers and with that, I think comes the answers about William. This is why I will never give up on one last X-Files movie. After all, maybe this is incredibly geeky of me to say, but X-Files has always reminded me to never give up on a miracle! :)

I hate for IWTB to be the last we see of Scully- I agree, no matter how many other shows I get into, no other characters resonate w/ me the way Scully does. And I LOVE the dark undertones to Mulder&Scully's relationship- to me, its perfectly in step with what is the X-Files and make it no less powerful- more so in fact

I love this video. You did a great job. The music and the editing. I get the feeling GA doesn't fully appreciate the wonderful character she created in Scully... she's besotted with Stella (and others) and I guess that's as it should be -- to love each character she plays while she's playin them BUT Scully is a masterpiece (along with Mulder) and the MSR. I think she'll understand better some day, what we already know. Great vid!!
I love this - it shows Scully's strength so well, both from within and without, how she draws strength from her faith, family and Mulder.
I'm just up to season 9, and seeing Scully alongside Doggett, a manly man (although I do quite like him!), it highlights how Mulder gives her the space to be strong and independent. For all the times that I have yelled at the TV and told him not to ditch her, it speaks volumes about how Mulder sees her - it's saying to her that he knows she's strong, capable, and independent. That he's got her back, but he's not going to smother her. That he will protect her, but only step in when she can't protect herself for some reason. Maybe that's part of why she loves the job (and Mulder) - it's a union of perfect opposites, but equals, and he respects her every bit as much as she respects him.
thankyou =) Scully is an amazing character, think I'll always feel like she's almost real. I love Doggett too but he is very different than Mulder and in terms of seeing what Scully needed psychologically, Mulder just fit that to a tee, like it was purposeful that they fell into each other's orbit. Always felt bad for Doggett tho- he was so good to her but Scully needed that challenge of having to prove herself as well as that feeling of being connected to something bigger than herself (like Mulder's quest)

Любви так такого не было, я предчувствовал где-то с 6 или 7 сезона, я предчувствовала когда-нибудь это на она началось, не обрадовала то, что сразу сказал как-то потом. С волнением, но она всё-таки взяла себя в руки и решилась на то, чтобы испытать это всё на себе испытать и понять, что есть тот человек, который любит и уважает к ней, относится душе сердце, это который долго, наверное, думал над этим. Решился там где то в 7 сезоне вдох местах аж это вообще что то по казахским людям что всё таки у них есть любовь друг другу

Ещё много другого воспоминания от расстались даже борьбы за будущее, даже там, когда она приехала уже в понедельник, когда грустные поля, вот эти были ей надо было выступать по поводу того, что она станет доктором. Доказывать тем, что она не просто агент фбр, что она собирается стать доктором, но была эта жизнь, наверное, очень такая скромная тихая, которая я сильно-сильно трогала меня, когда я смотрела это всё это было приятно, это было. Неожиданно приятно ты меня это. Я тоже так грустила, так же страдала виде, как она грустила, так же страдала её, мне было трогательно то, что вот это увидеть, как она страдает, как она расстроена, даже попытаться быть такой же. Понять эту серию некоторые настолько, настолько тяжёлые казалось, тоже хочет зару, когда было её похищение, потом болела в больнице, лежала, как мать и была с ней рядом, надо было видеть. Я тоже принимал участие в этом, конечно, он приходил с работы, навещал её, радовал её, постоянно пытался развеселить чем-нибудь, рассказать ей повеселее стало, как там работа проходит всё время, рассказывал, что там. Происходило реально классно, вообще интересные моменты были очень интересные.
