Confusing. Scrolling up and down in data sheets does not tell me what mesh wifi is. Actual talk about the mesh functionality is good! Link from 'Rc Dad / Sultans of Wing' is good.
Hi Willie, You have no idea how much you have helped me even in Australia mate. I watch all your videos constantly. What I wanted to ask is what is the difference between a mesh network in Unifi and running uplinks? Keep up the good work :)
+Willie Howe hi Willie thanks for the reply. One other question. Do you loose much bandwidth when using wireless nodes. I have a site where I can only get cable to one node.
If I connected this to the switch, would it just act like a regular AP? Would I be able to put another mesh AP farther out and that would then connect wirelessly to the network?
So, 2x PoE injectors, bridging PoE LAN ports or something. Maybe even a Toughswitch, for building mounted deployments, which would allow more cameras/devices per mesh radio. I'm probably not thinking this through atm lol. Still, happy to see Ubiquiti mesh regardless
The outdoor ac-pro is not in production any longer. There are a few posts on the forums saying they are replacing it with a yet to be released model. Though it does make me wonder if what they where talking about replacement wise, is the mesh pro.
Can the Pro be used indoors or is that overkill? I'm looking at covering a 4 floor Victorian house with thick walls, currently using 2 AP AC Pros thinking of adding just one mesh to the mix providing it gives more coverage. Thanks.
Hi, Willie, thanks for your videos. If the mesh units can talk to more than one AP, why do we have to link them in the control panel? I only see one link at a time there, although I'm using a UAP-AC-LR connected to the internet with 3 UAP-AC-M s for the mesh. . I'm hoping when I switch the wired unit to another mesh unit they'll mesh better and I'll have better throughput. Currently my downloads are fluctuating wildly from 30Mb to 1Mb and driving me mad.
Ok, so I have a few pro using zero handoff which is becoming more of a pain by the day. Does this support single SSID with mutli mesh antennas? It sounds like a simple question but you think it would be the first thing answered.
What is the difference between mesh and non-mesh? Can you have multiple non-mesh aps with the same SSID, or do I have to have different SSIDs for each ap and tell the guests to use a different network as they move around the property?
i have a unifi ac-m (not pro) how high should i pole mount it to maximize its range? can you suggest me a setting for its dbm / dbi .., I'm operating a WIFI Lounge. Higher coverage the better i prefer.
all you need to know is here: help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002262328-UniFi-Feature-Guide-Wireless-Uplink basically its just the next gen of the current APs that allow multiple levels of wireless access points. A deployment that uses a base station (wired AP) but has more than one level of Wireless Uplink with intermediate APs relaying data to and from the base station. When using multiple levels of APs, the uplink tiers can be referred to by root (Base Station), first hop, second hop, etc.
Can i mount this up at building B and connect to the wireless network at building A and give building B its own access point with internet from the unified ac mesh?
Godspeed232 yes, this device acts as an AP and allows for wireless uplink. It can be setup to have the same said and psk so as far as far as the client is concern it should roam to either access point when you Move about
If you only want 2x2 omni then the $99 UAP-AC-M will work great. You can also connect a directional patch or sector antenna to it for great outdoor wireless. The $199 UAP-AC-M-PRO is a great option as well for 3x3 omni but you can't connect external antennas to it (easily).
I need an RV park solution, so basically hardwire is out of the question because the location is already established. Additionally, the distances required would exceed cat5 (6) maximums. So, I'm wondering if these work as sort of a mesh bridge? Also, the owner is cheap lol. So i would like to use the $99 units exclusively if at all possible. So, my understanding is that we could use a system comprised entirely of the $99 units, even the base station? Also, if I wanted to charge for a premium access, is that something the 'Could Key" could provide? I would like to limit our free internet bandwidth to users and provide more bandwidth to a premium internet service purchaser. Part of that premium service is a selling point to the owner. I'm still learning quite a bit about this system.
So, still considering the use of it as the Base Station, is the major difference between UAP-AC-M-PRO and UAP-AC-PRO mainly the transmit power? Thank you.
Awesome video! Can't wait for the unboxing and mesh setup! I just received my UAP-AC-M-PRO, probably first one in Canada :)
BTW The outdoor was under the legacy products. See time mark 6:09.

Great work, appreciate the simplicity at which you present your videos.
OMG! This will be PERFECT for a water theme park setup. NICE!!

when they list "802.3af PoE Alternative A " they are referring to the Ubiquiti INS-3AF-I-G or the Ubiquiti INS-3AF-O-G
If I connected this to the switch, would it just act like a regular AP? Would I be able to put another mesh AP farther out and that would then connect wirelessly to the network?
I'm interested in using these for some public WiFi + public security cameras. Thanks for the info

Does Mesh slow down traffic and increase loading to switches like other repeaters do?
I have Orbi WiFi 6 indoor. Would this router work separately? Would it confuse the orbi? I have about 1/2 back yard to reach out to.
Can you run a single SSID across all APs in a mesh config? Does it allow for a "single-sign-on" experience for end users?

Hi, great video. Do I new the AC AP Pro to start a mesh or can I just start with the Mesh products straight to the router?
Thanks!

How far is the coverage for the standard ap mesh directly to cellphone or laptop
can you connect mesh device and AP ac pro with wireless uplink ?

Thanks dad; I had lost interest in ever getting the simple answer to the question "what is it"
so does this mean if i have 3x ap pro's in house connected with wire , this one i could put in garden wireless and it would work ?
Yes

I'm just looking for an economical outside AP to go with my AP AC Lite (inside the house). Will this do the job? Keep up the great vid's!

I void warranties ;) community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/How-do-you-physically-open-the-UAP-AC-PRO/td-p/1703182
does it have a limited as in how many persons connect at once
Can I just get 3 UniFi ac mesh devices for my home or do I need a pro one too?
Why the pro rather than a third mesh?
What software Yo use to do this video?

A shame half the video was about the AP pro.
What is the maximum Distance on the open spaces?
Can AC MESH wireless uplink to AC HD?
nice video and thanks
Sounds like a Campground solution !
Interesting Video
I though you were going to accually show a working mesh example as you kind of stated in the beginning of the video...
Confusing review
Great video Willie! Keep up the great work.
well done
very confusing review
Ubiquiti mesh AREDN
Keep it up
you just read spec on website. no need to make up a youtube video to do this.
