This was a great haunting song of one man's loneliness to begin with and they have done it well.

I was fortunate many (many) years ago to attend a Statler Brothers concert - they sounded like an entire choir. Flowers on the Wall was one of their biggest hits (if you've never heard them, try listening to "Susan When She Tried" or "Silver Medals and Sweet Memories"). It was such a nice homage to them and the late Harold Reid (may he rest in peace).

Always liked this song, and the reference to "Watching Captain Kangaroo"...Cpt Kangaroo was a children's television show before Sesame Street. The Statler Brothers did this originally.

Yes, Captain Kangaroo is a reference lost on anyone under about 60 years old, and growing up in the US.

The Statler Bro.s was a small regional band In the 60s, and toured Va. And the whole Appalachian region back then. You would find them at church revivals everywhere. A very personable bunch, especially Harrold. They got "Discovered" by the late great Johnny Cash who signed them. Once they retired, they went back to Stanton Va.

This song was originally done by a group called The Statler Brothers. They were a fantastic group of singers, very popular in the late sixties and seventies, who sang a sort of mixture or combination of country and Christian gospel. They're definitely worth your time to listen to if you want just pure singing talent with none of the flash and tricks common today.

Home Free paid tribute to Kenny Rogers with his song The Gambler in another quarantine video who also recently died during this time. Home Free had a done a song with Kenny several years before, Children Go Where I Send Thee.

I have always liked this song by The Statler Brothers. It has a very catchy fun tune. This is another quarantine video. The guys got very creative filming from their separate homes. Adam's beatboxing is great as always. Love Tim's deep voice too. At the end Tim pays tribute to the bass singer from The Statler Brothers (Harold Reid) who passed away recently.

The interesting thing about this song is that the catchy and bright upbeat tune belies the darkness of the verses.

If you are ever looking for a new group to react to the Statler Brothers, would be fun. I'd suggest "Name on The Wall" or "Count On Me". A great reaction.
For another Home Free reaction, so many good songs out there. Two of my favorites are "Ring of Fire" and "Man of Constant Sorrow."

This is a fun to sing along with sort of folk vibe song. The straight up, not a lot of bells and whistles is a style Home Free can make sound awesome. So many people say the same thing, that Home Free has changed their life in some significant way. They surely did for me. They are truly special. Great reaction. Diamond Dreams is quarantine song that I really like.

You should pull up some Statler Brother songs, they were on the Johnny Cash Show back in the 60's. One that touches me, of theirs was, Silver Metals and Sweet Memories. A couple more of theirs was, Class of 73 and Bed of Roses. You can find them on You Tube.

During this time I really began following Home Free. Not only did they release a new video every other Friday but they also were very active on other social media. I started listening to Rob's podcast, The Avid Indoorsmen which is about movies. He has guests each week; sometimes one of the other guys, VoicePlay members, The Hound and The Fox or other people in the music industry. Adam Chance started streaming on Twitch every Tuesday and Home Free would have live questions and answers on Instagram or Facebook from time to time too. They even published a phone number for fans to text them.

Some of the humor in the song can get lost when heard in a different culture and time. The song narrator is actually devastated after the breakup, but he insists that he's fine. He's playing Solitare with a deck with one card missing. Chain-smoking. Watching a children's TV show. Doesn't leave the house. So, he's either sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek, or totally un-self-aware.
The Statler Brothers (low bass Harold Reid, along with his literal brother Don Reid, Phil Beasley and Lew Dewitt) were Johnny Cash's male backup singers in the mid-1960s when they branched out and started releasing their own stuff. Flowers On the Wall was their first hit. They had a good career for many years. Their only personnel change was when Lew became too sick to continue and was replaced by Jimmy Fortune. I heard the group live in concert in the late 1990s. They eventually broke up because of age and because many radio stations were not playing "old-style" Country music any more.

Love this one. I think it’s about a guy who’s gotten divorced and people are asking how he’s doing. He counting the flowers on his wallpaper and saying I’m fine but he’s not really ok. As Tim said it relates well to Covid times. That’s when I discovered them. I feel like they saved me. I love their music and more importantly them. They are genuine guys and are so down to earth while being crazy and lots of fun. I love that you love them too. They’re music is so good. Enjoy the journey Sam!😍

You should listen to "Flowers on the Wall" - The Statler Brothers.
Also if you haven't done it I would suggest Home Free - "Elvira" featuring the Oak Ridge Boys.
Without the Statler Brothers and the Oak Ridge Boys I doubt there would be a Home Free.

It always amazes me but honestly puzzles me on where US music (or maybe the type) makes it out and abroad overseas to the corners of existence; what's promoted or not. If it wasn't for the internet and this "twist" of getting music out amongst everyone (hey, it's there -- just search!), HF wouldn't be out there they way they are; all through self promotion!!! WTG HF!!!! Home Free has this thing about 'em --- when ya listen to their music, basically no matter what it is ---- It can change yer mindset, make ya feel good ---- ALL POSITIVE!!! Never had I had that. I do get some "vibes" from certain others in my music world (mainly County!) but only from certain particular artists/voices ........... I've not had a "bad" from these guys --- ever!!!! So thankful for them. Be Safe

The Statler brothers were super stars back in the day. ..I'm 71, so I know "back in the day". My Mom really loved listening to Harold with that big bass sound when they were on the Ed Sullivan Show ...haha... it really pissed my Dad off. But Mom did not like June Carter Cash (Johnny Cash's wife) ... you had to be there...lol.

Samantha, you are probably too young to remember Captain Kangaroo (mentioned in the song among the pointless activities the protagonist was doing), and the show may not have made it across the Atlantic, but Captain Kangaroo was an American children's television show. It had a little educational content, but was mostly various silly things. The point for the song is that it is not the sort of thing an adult man would be watching unless he was unmotivated to even get up and change the channel (at the time, TVs did not have remote controls, you had to press buttons or turn dials on the case).

S - Listen to the original (released 57 years ago, this month), and you'll understand Tim's comment about the Statler Brothers' influence on Home Free. (Hint: anyone who likes HF, automatically likes The Statler Brothers.) Original: ruclips.net/video/W6DmeR9a6ig/видео.html Usually, HF rearranges the songs they cover, but this one is almost a carbon copy of the original. ------------------
Another heavily influential group for HF was The Oak Ridge Boys. It's one of their pre-pandemic videos, but please add the HF+Oak Ridge Boys collaboration "Elvira" ( ruclips.net/video/Wgm9gZs1hYw/видео.html ) to your reaction list. This one bounces right along, so little kids love it. Maybe you could have your daughters join you for that reaction?
