Hi Gizmo, fyi I purchased two other big boys through a dealer here in CA and he told that a lot of these new big boys have smoke fluid leaking issues. Have you heard about any issues and how is your 4025 running?

Beautiful! Though it is missing a tanker between the oil/water car and the diesel. I stepped out of that hobby a long time ago, but I still love to see the detailed models.

Man, all my buddies think I'm a kook for liking this but I don't care at all. I have to ask though, I noticed you got them 21 inch passenger cars. Are they heavy for an engine to pull? They don't seem like they would be given they don't weigh near as much as a k-line die-cast 21 inch cars. I'm trying to put together the world's first true 3 rail o scale 1:48 scale shasta daylight consist. The train length would be 18 to 22 cars. There's actual footage of a shasta daylight running with 22 cars pulled by a GS-4. My peers say it's impossible but I say it absolutely is. I would be using golden gate depot cars in concert with them though which them cars will make the train heavier. But I'm kinda rambling now. Hope to hear back at some point, thanks! @ChargerPrime the Lionel 21” cars are fairly light compared to die fast for sure. Obviously many factors to consider, but I would say any modern era engine should be able to easily pull that many passenger cars. The seven I’m pulling is a breeze.

Only four left now. The ones that weren’t already preordered are going very fast! (I helped my Dad, Jeff, in his store yesterday and then watched this video with him last evening, so that’s the inventory update!)

@@gizmotrains I am happy to say that one of the last ones is on it's way. I can't remember being this obsessed with a train....well maybe not this week anyway. There have been a few "White Whales" out there, as I call them, that you spend years trying to find. The GEVO Diecast run (especially the Demo version), the Union Pacific Excursion cars, the MTH Blue Goose and the car sets, the European MTH BR and Chapelon engines and their European car sets, the Lionel and MTH Rocket sets, etc. This UP Heritage paint scheme is going to be one of those in the near future.
For all the haters, I have a box of rivets just near the door to my train. I use a hand full every now and then. A big old box, swing by and count them for me would ya?
I take notice that they forgot to put in the box the other red color turn vavles that go on the sides of the bigboy there like yo< see on there black bigboy.
@doctordeath.5716 they didn’t put the red handles on any of the “oil burning” models. That’s because generally the ash pans were no longer used when an engine was converted as there wasn’t any “trash” from the oil like from burning coal. Since this one has the oil tender, no handles were included.
I love my D&RGW railroad. I love Grande Gold. Love the Big Boy (I have a Lionel original issue) But I'd have to pass on this one (can't afford anyway) But best of luck!!

Gizmo, we also have bought this same DRG Rio Grande Big Boy from Jeff and the train loft. Its our first vision line, our first big boy. Please look at our postings on the OGR forum posted by us, thetrainboard and leave your thoughts there. We have spent the last 10 days watching our engine derail on our 072 atlas 0 curves . No success. The fourth front driver wheel derails on our 072 curves . We have posted detailed closeup videos. You have the same engine. We wonder if a spring is missing on one of the yellow rods that support the boiler as it swing and moves thru curves. All of our 60 or so engines navigate our 072 curves without any problem, including our scale mth triplex, our mesabe steam, many others. Our board is 18 ft by 24 ft, atlas o track. Please take a look, since you run the exact same engine, in fact your 2 big boys. We are at wits end. Gary
@TheTrainboard I’ll check it out this week. One thing quickly I would look at as well, is alignment of the 3rd rail pickups. I’ve seen them “drop” off the rail and bind beside it, and cause the “truck” or wheel set be pushed off the track because it’s become wedged.
the thing that gets me is that the DRGW heritage Unit that UP runs is NOT a scheme the grande ever ran! I understand what they are going for but think of it as if Norfolk Southern took 8101 PRR heritage unit with the Horseshoe curve on the side. PRR fans would have a fit. I don't hate the bumblebee scheme, just please keep the mountains in the logo
Yes UP could have been like NS, but I think like CSX recent schemes, they went with more of a inspiration type scheme and didn’t particularly want to match a specific paint scheme. Besides, railroads evolve over time and their schemes change regardless, so you have to try and capture the essence of what the railroad stood for. For me, I’m happy with the art of it.
@@gizmotrains I don't want my criticism to come off as hate. I just kinda want both to exist it guess. I guess I just want the option for the traditional black and orange. Maybe the Russian black scheme that was only used on the narrow gauge. I love the Rio Grande. It's a rich railroad history. I just want to be able to have options you know

I understand what they are going for but think of it as if Norfolk Southern took 8101 PRR heritage unit with the Horseshoe curve on the side. PRR fans would have a fit. I don't hate the bumblebee scheme, just please keep the mountains in the logo
Yes UP could have been like NS, but I think like CSX recent schemes, they went with more of a inspiration type scheme and didn’t particularly want to match a specific paint scheme. Besides, railroads evolve over time and their schemes change regardless, so you have to try and capture the essence of what the railroad stood for. For me, I’m happy with the art of it.
@@gizmotrains I don't want my criticism to come off as hate. I just kinda want both to exist it guess. I guess I just want the option for the traditional black and orange. Maybe the Russian black scheme that was only used on the narrow gauge.
I love the Rio Grande. It's a rich railroad history. I just want to be able to have options you know
