Just heard this for the first time and the timing couldn’t be more perfect and meaningful to me at this moment. I’ve been in a really dark place for 6 years, and the last 2 have been devastating to my sense of hope, feeling connected to community and loved ones, and I withdrew into near total isolation. I was often suicidal and riddled with anxiety, and my ability to do basic self care dwindled and died. I was stuck in a downward spiral until a few months ago when I finally got the replacement mental health care team that I’d struggled to find after years of slipping out of treatment and being stuck with inadequate providers that did more harm than good. As my new therapist helped me regain my self care routine and pull out of my depression, I decided to flip the script and the last couple weeks I’ve been reaching out and reconnecting with my loved ones, allowing myself to be vulnerable and honest about why I disappeared all this time, and assure them they had done nothing to instigate that withdrawal, how much I’d missed them the entire time, and most importantly how much the knowledge that they were out there loving me, rooting for me to keep going, and how devastated my loss would be if I gave in to my inner bully who had pushed me farther into darkness. The overwhelming response filled with warm welcomes, and support, the outpouring of love and shared vulnerabilities left me feeling this song in my soul. Indeed they are looking up.
For anyone out there struggling with the same, I see you, I love you, and I’m proud of you for continuing to live, each second you don’t give in to the darkness is a victory. You’re fucking winning even if you can’t see that right now. I may not know you but I love you and am happy you’re still with us 💞💓💗
