your not using flux core wire are you? got my eye on a titanium, but it says flux but is the same as yours.i would need handle or gun.i have torch and extra guages.ill have to see.i checked out the bumpers on barnes and amazon.like them, but like yourself i like the shorter look and such.surprised why a stubby would be so much more.makes no sense.ill figure something out.but if you can tell me,are you running gas with your welder.thanks beardy, your doing awesome.saw a post from some jerk, dont see why he wld open his mouth.probably pays somebody to do all his work.
I use solid core wire, super arc .035 and 75/25 gas.
Neat video, be careful with the acetone near the gas water heater, just a suggestion.
In regards to the bull bar, I was totally gonna say,”just have nate bend it for you”. But then you basically said that. I, too, have a friend with bend-efits. Hahaha. And that’s what I’m gonna do. Have HIM bend the bar for me. Great video dude
Lol, thanks. I have several friends with benders. Just didn’t plan ahead.
that piece at 3;57 or so that has the cap that has the D ring connection points and runs all across front, did you buy that or build it.i need just that exactly.my welder is not the best and ill do best i can but i saw the bumper from amazon and want to go with that, but it probably doesnt have a solid pull point like you have,or did that come with it.or where can i maybe get something near that if you know.sorry so long
"In your garage." What garage? My 'garage' is the back patio! Sometimes I think that I'd like to have a winch bumper and winch on my 2004 Trailblazer EXT, but not being a hunter and living in Lincoln, Nebraska I don't think I'd use it enough to justify it. Oh, well. Dreaming is free, right?
Sweet!!! Best of all, you can unbolt and remove the entire top piece with winch. Doesn’t appear to be much of a fight to unbolt and remove it for repairs. There is my bumper job. P. S. Awesome videos!!!
Can of carburetor cleaner is mostly acetone and works good for cleaning metal. And for eating O-rings and rubber needle valve tips in your carburetor.
I know I’m a little late but I recently bought a Jeep after not having one for about 8 years. The Harbor Freight bender is a pipe bender. You need tube bending shoes. Pipe is measured inside diameter and tube is measured outside. Great video though!
Great video Kelly. I dig the look of the bumper you made and that Barnes 2 pull plate looks like a solid base for the bumper I plan to fab in the near future!
Good stuff man. I built mine a few months back, like.. 90% from scratch (ended up really similar to yours, but I dont have a hoop). I love it, but at the time I didnt know about Barnes, they've got some great builder stuff. I'll be building one for the Wife's JK soon, and I think ill be taking advantage of Barnes. Thanks for the video!
Thanks, Barnes has a lot of great stuff and your bumper definitely was more work and custom than mine, lol.
i have a 98 tj.up-grading and need bumpers.i like how you went with yours. So the square part at very fron of bumper, did you buy that or get it with the smitty winch? i see it has the connections for D links,so did you just make those and weld them straight into frame or is it a bolt on smitty part like you kinda mentioned with winch.i need a solid hook-up position on front and rear.im wanting to go as you have cause i know you know your stuff and know how to squeeze the dollar.please help ,big supporter.you make all small parts of building known.GREAT!!
My original bumper I cut up was the Smittybilt rock crawler bumper. They are like $160, so it brings the cost up if you had to buy that as well. Maybe look around for some used bumpers to cut up?
Looks great, you are definitely improving with the squirt gun. Nothing helps more then consistent practice.
Lmao you can buy a way nicer jeep winch bumper than that for under 200$... ...
I can't find any dimensions on that dual pull winch plate, do you think it would work with a factory sway bar?
Thanks for great vid. I watch you and Nate. I was just planning that same build. I just bought the Titanium 200 recently for a D44 XJ swap on my TJ using Barnes truss kit. My next project is to stubby my warn bumper. I’ll be buying the Barnes bull bar and items in the link. Thanks again good work. I see some Nate influences in the editing
Thanks man I appreciate it. Glad it inspired you to work on the Jeep.🤟🏻
Can you do a vid on your front blinkers ?
I will try my best👍🏻
Good looking work. always enjoy the video.
Good looking build!! Really like the style, even for a Toyota guy like me 😀 What size compressor do you have to run that plasma cutter?
Lol, thanks. My compressor is a 15 or 20 gallon craftsman.
What are your thought’s on the Apex winch?
Thx’s
It has been great. I am working on a long term review video right now.
Thx’s
I seen that in the video. I asked then watched.
bold of you to assume i have money and skill
🤣😂
Badass bumper Kelly!!! The bumper bar is barely noticeable. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks man
Nice job...in hindsight, could've bent that bull bar at Nate's shop
Yup, I have several friends with real benders, just didn’t have time. Needed that thing done. For a wheeling trip the next day.
Hey MB. I know this vid's been out for a while, but believe it or not, you can us the HF pipe bender on 1 1/4 od x .20 wall using the 3/4 inch shoe. It looks counter-intuitive because the tubing rides the outside of the shoe (doesn't slip all the way down into it) but it works. Give it a try!
P.S. what setting did you use on your welder for this bumper build? I have the same one and it could save me some time. Keep up the great vids! -Mike.
If I had to start all over with a front bumper I would definitely build what you built. It definitely looks like it will serve you on the trails well 👌 nice work
I smashed it on the rock last weekend, it did great.
Nice work! looks great!
👊🏻Thanks
Your bumper came out really nice Kelly . I have been thinking of changing my front bumper a little and make it a shorty instead of a mid length . You have now inspired me to do so . Question that may sound dumb , but are you welding with 115/120 or 220/240 ? Just wondering as I only have a 115/120 welder . Take care and be safe my friend.
Awesome👍🏻 it is a 240
@@MuddyBeards4X4 Thank you
great video Kelly, to me have a not so perfect home built fab should give you more fab cred!
Lol, thanks
well you answered most of my question with video.but steel is expensive around here in Hampton Tenn.but any advice would be deeeply appreciated.thank you
Nice job, Kelly. How much does it weigh? 💪🏼
Hm.. good question. It is pretty light. Even with the 12k winch, it is not too heavy. It is very manageable to lift with 1 person.
I needed a bull bar thanks
Looks great man!
Can I have your old one
Fill the tubing with sand before you bend it so it wont kink
I have Heard that a million times, never tried it. I just don’t have the time or patience to try it out.
Fill the tubing with sand and cork it. It will eliminate most of the kinking when you bend it.
Great vid on the bumper build, need to do this to my TJ
Do it!!👊🏻
nice work!
Thanks👍🏻
I've thought about doing that same thing. Only part I'm missing is the bar. Looks good.
The which mount and base looks good. My only critique is why would you continue with the bar install once the bends didn't work? It looks like dog's ass. Would have been better just leaving it off and installing a nice one later.
