CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Annie Walker (Kristen Wiig) and Lillian (Maya Rudolph) have a huge fight at the bridal shower.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow team up again for this comedy that stars Kristen Wiig as Annie, a romantically unattached failed bakery owner who fears she's losing her BFF, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), the best thing in her life, when Lillian announces she's gotten engaged. Annie's anxieties deepen as Lillian grows close to Helen (Rose Byrne), a wealthy and beautiful new friend who quickly assumes control of planning all the pre-wedding festivities. On top of the main storyline of a female friendship being torn apart, the movie adds a romantic storyline for Annie, who starts the film answering a booty call from the casually cruel yet undeniably handsome Ted (Jon Hamm), but develops a lovely flirtation with an Irish cop named Rhodes (Chris O'Dowd) after he pulls Annie over one night thinking she's driving drunk. As the low-self-esteem Annie sabotages this new possibility for love, she also feels the most important friendship in her life slipping away.

The older that I get, the more likely it seems I will have a meltdown like this.
Welcome to adulthood
Haha! Everyone is feeling her RN
she did stab the eiffel tower, LOL!
And it would be as pethetic and unfunny as this bullshit.
@@lynchinjesus Yeah, but we all think about doing it.
it really hurts when your best friend finds a new best friend and they do stuff together that you know about later. you feel betrayed.
Callalily you got that right
I've been there 😞😥
I wanted to make a scene like Annie but you can't do that irl can you? So you just shut yourself out and lead a friendless life like a 'normal person'. Normal is the most fucked up thing to be since we have no out and it eats us up on the inside.
Or, you could watch the entire movie and see that you shouldn't define your own successes in life based on your friendships with others? Shit happens. The point of the movie is for Annie to fight back and get better. Annie let her failures turn her into a colossal asshole who ignored what good things in life she still had. She had to decide to pick herself back up and get better. You can always make new friends, find other interests. The only thing stopping you, is you.
The problem wasn’t her being the ‘new friend’ the problem was her hijacking everyone’s ideas and always taking over by exploiting her privileged background.
I think here it’s also about the bride’s myopia. She complains about her friend ruining everything but is completely inconsiderate of her financial situation or Helen’s blatant manipulations.
This movie is hilarious, but also pretty dark. Annie has a right to be angry, but the way she reacted just goes to show how miserable she was.
LL Armstrong yeah, LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE
Then she would've at least gotten a dog.
lol me when i turn 30 and i'm still single.
why be jealous get another mate say sorry and get on with your life from experience of a singleton 😊
Which is why it's relatable
As funny as this movie was, it's also so realistic to see why Annie was upset. She was miserable with herself and seeing her best friend find happiness must not have been the easiest thing for her. But to see her be happy with another best friend who stole her wedding gift idea, is reasonable enough to have a meltdown. I resonate with her frustration.
Amen.
Yeah, everybody is saying her breakdown was unreasonable but honestly if i were Annie i wouldve had a even bigger one. 🙊
Exactly. And Helen is clearly a passive-aggressive poseur who is trying to buy friendship with gifts and money, which is a pretty rotten thing to do.
Lol this is a terrible reason to destroy your friends event
Not exactly justifying ruining your best friend's party just because you're mad at the host. Lillian was right, she should've just went home and talked behind her back like everyone else does lol
Considering Annie's a baker, her beef with the cookie in particular is some brilliant writing.
During the restaurant scene prior to the infamous food poisoning, Annie’s idea for the Paris themed parties included cookies; the giant cookie is one upmanship on that. Same with the chocolate fountain > chocolate fondue (another of Annie’s stated ideas).
Nop. It was Annie's idea to have cookies with lilian and doug written on it coz its paris themed. Even the cookie was her idea.
I never blamed Annie for being fed up with her.
Lol I love how they all just stand there watching to see what she'll do next instead of stopping her.
@@swampsprite9 you make a Good point. But still, Annie Freaking out like that TRashing the Place, was still immature and irresponsible and Crazy. I Mean, yeah I know Annie is Fed up and pissed, But what she did, she pretty much Humiliated herself and also, it did not even Make her Feel better.
@@seanmager1168 So you're saying being crushed by a giant cookie and stabbing the eiffel tower with a fork, and throwing lumps of the lawn into the chocolate fountain isnt the right thing to do? Well, its a bold take you've taken. Pretty sure the filmmakers wanted it to look badass and tough.
THE all-time greatest meltdown scene in movie history. And when Annie says everyone's thinking, "Lesbian!" and Meagan admits she was thinking it, too, I always laugh.
The all-time greatest in movie history? Pump your brakes.
can i defend lillian it was a gift from helen ok it might be wrongly given but it was lillian wedding not annie and not lillians fault maybe Helen's maybe not maybe lillian had changed people do just sayung good film about women 😂

Megan: "I was"
LMAO
Evil Gopher that was the funniest part of scene and the fact that they actually give away puppies as party favors.

Megan is team Annie

We're ALL thinking it.

I was...
lol
There are so many things I love about this scene. Annie’s deep red dress contrasting against everyone else’s pastel shades as she’s bottling her anger. The giant cookie upstaging Annie on her baking skills, the thing she’s most talented at. The “talk behind my back” line, demonstrating both how Miriam talks about Annie behind her back and how she only wants the facade of popularity. So much of these scene is played off for laughs, but reveals so much more when you look beneath the surface.
yes it's pretty sad they never counted on Annie to make the cake for the wedding or at least cupcakes for the engagement party
@@jenny1967 wasnt she depressed and gave up baking
OMG never thought of all that, But your right is all probably true. 🍷
Who's Miriam?
Her name is Lillian 😂
I love how Helen looks like she's attending the oscars every day
the second time I watch the scene when helen and annie meet, I find it hilarious how she turns and her gown to a simply engagement party... LOL

Destroying everything ,WOW. I hope all broken was no expensive gifts.! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha all the way home?
I was about to comment the same thing 😭😭😭
AngelLove890... yeah cause they were shocked... I know that Helen was being the showoff an using all her money an connections to make all of Annie's stuff/gifts look like nothing but when Annie was going berserk an all an trashing the place, that was way worse then showing off... but I do agree with Annie when she said the bridal shower was over the top ridiculous and stupid... the chocolate fountain, that was ok... but that Eiffel tower thing, the big heart shaped cookie that's bigger then my plasma screen tv an the bunnies and geese an handing out puppies to every1, that was WAY overboard...
They were probably thinking "Let her get it out of her system."
"I took two dogs already they're in the back of my van" IM CRYING WHY IS THIS ME
Amber Leigh I'd do the same 😂
And then she ate them later... 'Get in ma belly !'
Amber Leigh
That phrase sounds like a sexual predator
I guess taking centerpieces off the table are out of style.😎
Omg you're so quirky
For context, Annie gave Lillian a box of meaningful things from their childhood before Helen gave her a trip to Paris. Her gift turning insignificant to Lillian was the last straw for Annie and she snapped.
Annie’s gift was way more sentimental and showed she really cared about Lillian. Helens gift was more to impressive everyone. My god that vacation should’ve been for Lillian and her husband, not Helen.
Also the whole Paris idea was never Helen's. Annie had spoken to her about it and thats how that Bi** knew!
@@evm6177 Correct! Which Helen had shot down when they were at the lamb resto.
So Annie had all the right to be mad.
@@evm6177it wasn’t a trip to Paris that was her idea for one of the parties. And then she stole that idea for her party they’re at and then also one upped even that with a trip
In the end, Helen admitted she was purposely trying to drive a wedge into their friendship and win Lillian over. She took advantage of Annie's financial misfortune and used the one thing Annie didn't have, which was money.
Telling someone not to come to your wedding after an outburst like that? Understandable. Denying someone access to a dog? That's pure evil.
I would adopt all the dogs, :)
When she was going to grab the dog all I could think of was that her hands were covered in chocolate, no dog for u
@@MrsGray-ju9wt i thought she was justified tbh annie was childish funny mind but lillian can be mates with who she wants 😣
It really lets me thinking de puppy present, it’s cute, of course, but it’s still a bunch of responsibility given to a person without asking or thinking of the consequences, like all Helen does in the movie, because she is materialistic and superficial, which means she she is so self-centred to consider the situations of other people, she can afford a dog, a $800 dress and it makes her happy, so everyone should do the same
Honestly, I know it’s played 4 laughs but the thought of puppies as party favours just makes me cry since Helen’s condemned them all 2 a life of feeling unloved or being abandoned down the road 😭
Now THATS E.V.I.L. 👿
I love how Helen's stepdaughter is just smiling through this whole mess LOL
Yup lol Notice the look she gives Helen at 2:33. It’s a look that says “You know she’s right, Helen. It’s all your fault.”
She and her brother are Team Annie it seems lmao
Seriously my favorite part!!!
ShinRyojin Yes! Megan too.
@@ShinRyojin Well spotted!
A woman won't beat you up or punch you in the face, but she will take your best friend to Paris after you mention it to her...
@Yasika Sambora that's just the way women are. It has nothing to with gender roles.
@Yasika Sambora can you explain how women are taught to be passive aggressive? I would be interested in learning, thank you.
Alice Marie I think it’s because women are expected to be nice and empathetic towards everyone. So when they get mad, it’s passive aggressive.
@That Girl the great passive agression
That Girl you’re awesome 👏🏾
Gotta love Melissa McCarthy nodding and agreeing to everything Annie says about Helen. She knew exactly what was happening
Those two who kissed on the plane however, acted like it’s not a lesbian thing 😂
I love the look Helen’s step daughter gives at 2:34. She’s like “She’s right Helen, you always have to make it about yourself.”
It's so funny how she's so against the cookie.
+Jared Lowey that 'fucking' cookie :)
😂😂🤣😂☺️😂☺️
Lol
Jared Lowey Foreal
It's because she used to have a bakery that went out of business so shes pissed
This scene kills me every time 😂! The funniest part to me is the fact that Annie thought she could still get a puppy on her way out.
Keegan Thorpe but she was covered in chocolate so a puppy would’ve been a bad idea as chocolate is poisonous to dogs
Lol she reached for a puppy
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”
I mean...puppies must be left out of the mess. It's a fundamental right.
Love the puppy
Although her reaction was the absolute most wrong way to handle it (but hilarious at the same time), I could see why she was so upset. The idea for the Parisian themed shower was an idea Helen initially turned down, then she completely upstages her idea that she was banned from having any involvement in. I'd be pissed too. It was not cool for Helen to go for the jugular like that
Tory Catherine exactly, I hated her ass after that. Why you gotta upstage people? It's amazing she actually has friends.
She tells Annie in the car later that she doesn't have any friends and that people only like her because she's great at throwing parties.
MediaLover194 she doesn’t have any FEMALE friends.
MediaLover194 why am i not surprised ?
O
My favorite is how she stabs the Eiffel Tower. Also, the choice to just have the camera far back and still really maximized magically how hilariously tragic her meltdown was, almost like you’re one of the ladies there watching this crazy person and you can’t believe your eyes. Top notch filmmaking.
I love how Helen's stepdaughter is fascinated by Annie's meltdown. It shows how the kids can't stand Helen's over-the-topness.
when she tries to push the chocolate fountain over😂😂😂
Well atleast she put in a good effort idk if that fountain can be moved at all?
that was the best part, well actually her falling with the cookie was the best, but this was close second
And when she got burned by the hot chocolate "So hot!" hahahahahhaha
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i knowwwwwww
I have to agree Annie had a reason to be livid.
Same, I would've lost it too
this movie is hilarious, and I love it, but no, she did not act rationally here... get your shit together Annie... dont let actions of others affect you this way find productive ways to expend your life, and be happy
Thank you Desiree! A lot of people commenting are on Annie's side but it's pretty clear that she was screwed up emotionally and to an extent psychologically. She found it more convenient to shut people out and push them away whenever they tried getting close to her… like the officer who was obviously smitten by her. Fact is, even though Rose Byrne's character Helen had her own agenda and it's understandable to a certain degree why Annie was the kind of person she turned out to be, it was hard to sympathize with her.
damn right she did. Helen was evil!
Adriane Miles How is Helen evil? That doesn't even make any sense. Who doesn't want a free trip to Paris. It's not Helen's fault that Annie is broke. Lol
this scene is so perfect and realistic...
Have you seen someone act like that in real life?
@@sy_dianne5224 wow karen is so realistic
@@paralleluniverses2969 Nothing "realistic" about the scene
@@sy_dianne5224 what is realistic in your perception?
Maybe not to this degree but an outburst like this is normal. When I was getting married my childhood best friend and I had been drifting apart since college and I asked her to be in my bridal party but not my maid of honor. A few months later at my bridal shower she completely blew up, said a lot of horrible things to me and to my sorority sister I asked to be my maid of honor. She even went as far to tell my fiancé I didn’t really love him was only with him because he had a good job (which couldn’t be farther from the truth, we’re high school sweethearts, I’ve loved him since I was 16) he didn’t believe her and he never liked her anyway. We still have spoken and it’s been years.
“ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANYTHING THEY WANNA SHARE TODAY!!??”
🤚 “I took two dogs already. They’re in the back of my van.”
Melissa McCarthy was just plain perfect in this movie. Everything she did was hilarious.
The way Megan mutters “I was” after Annie said everyone’s thinking they’re lesbians! That always makes me laugh 😆
The way she runs through the yard when she yells "stupid fucking cookie!" cracks me up!
I'm Team Annie all the way. Helen always tried to sabotage her and then stole and took credit for her idea. I'm glad she ruined the party.
Helen was wrong for her actions but Annie wasn't exactly a likable person. For the majority of the film she was a walking cesspool of misery and it's made pretty clear she was that way long before Helen came into the picture. I would join neither team because both of these female characters were screwed up to an extent.
gt
Me too @Moviechick1416
moviechick1416 I loved when everyone is watching in horror but helens stepdaughter is just grinning and thinks it’s “awesome”. That was so funny
Princess Nylani How can you say the parties were perfect? Helen organised a wedding waaaaay over the top and put financial strain on the bride's father.
That "Shut up! Helen" always kills me
كىكولخظ هكخكىع
She deserved it lmao
At that point, she knew Helen was in the wrong lol. And she kind of understood Annie’s problems
Like "SHUT UP HEATHER!!!" Lol 🤣🤣🤣
Quite similar to what she gets from her step-kids in an earlier scene. A bit of a discreet storytelling there.
I would've just walked out and left the bridal shower, not react the way annie did. Cut off all ties and rebuild my life. Find better friends.
But we’ve all had those moments where every ounce of rational thought flees our mind and we act on impulse
I wouldn’t be so extreme but i would want to say my last piece before cutting off all ties
I know she got nominated for the writing, but this is honestly an oscar-worthy performance from kristen wiig
Annie's meltdown is so relatable that it's almost a form of postmodern art.
H8 to admit it. But yeah. We losers af.

this movie was hilarious but it wasn’t silly. it addresses something a LOT of us encounter and this scene actually really struck a chord with me
This maybe one of the funniest scenes in cinema history.
I would have to agree with you! Hahaha!
Paul Dante no the plane scene that was hilarious
Respectfully, I still think this is funnier. I've watched this scene maybe twenty times and each time I laugh. When she is laying on the ground buried in cookie, I just can't help myself, I laugh out loud.
P.S. I also love it when the step-daughter, who hates Helen says, "This is so awesome."
Maybe funniest female scene but in all cinema history is a bit of an exaggeration.
I do agree with Annie. I mean for god's sake, Helen could given that trip to Paris for Lilian and her husband. Forgot his name. This was just another way for Helen to stake her spot in Lilian's life. But I don't think it was the right time to have a meltdown. But it's still hilarious!
Her meltdown is completely understandable haha. She just snapped lll

It's pathetic to buy a friendship

Your best friend connecting with someone else hurts like hell. It’s awful and makes you feel replaced.
But having your best friend ruin what was suppose to be a good day for you out of her own jealousy is just as awful as well. (Especially when they can’t even be happy for you)
I can see it from both perspectives
You don't own a person. You never do. Even your husband or wife.
@@wingberry123 I never said she owns her, but watching your bestfriend connect and start preferring someone else over you hurts.
This movie is so underrated and the best thing Paul Feig ever did
It's not just the humor - this movie is such a bitter(heavy on the bitter)sweet comedy.
When you're an adult and you lose friends or they move on from your life with them...you're not going to replace them. Those are the people you share history and so much of the life you've already lived with.
I absolutely empathise with that sinking feeling Annie has when she put a lot of time and effort into making Lillian a present, because she couldn't afford to buy anything extravagant, only for her gift to be completely overshadowed by Helen's super expensive gift. You feel completely devalued, you feel like a failure for not being able to afford something so extravagant, and you feel like your efforts have been ignored. I wish people would spend less money on gifts and spend more effort and thought, because not everyone can afford expensive gifts.
Banana Manchester Unless she actually bought plane tickets, there was no gift. Just an idea.
So people should not get expensive gifts because you can’t afford them? Lol nice logic bro…
@@barboralitvanova5111 you seem like the kind of person who could MacGyver a dramatic situation out of some silly string and a cardboard box. It's amazing how people can twist even the most innocuous and innocent expressions of opinion- and one from three years ago, no less! Get a life bud.

Megan nodding at Annie’s meltdown and looking at Helen when Annie called her out. Megan 100% knew what was up with Helen lol.
Honestly, Annie had every right to be pissed even though she made a fool of herself. But what irritated me the most was that the other bridesmaids were there when Annie suggested a Paris themed bridal shower and none of them credited her either. Helen wasn't the only problem

3:25 aww.. you can hear it in Lillian’s voice how much it hurt to say that.
I don't blame Annie for snapping at Helen like that:
1. She kept trying to steal her spotlight since the beginning when the MAID OF HONOR was supposed to give a speech. Not her.
2. She KNEW that the others would get food poisoning at the fitting but didn't do anything about it.
3. She drugged Annie and got them kicked outta the plane
4. She stole Annie's idea of a bridal shower, took all the credit, then made Annie look like the bad guy.
5. Even after all this, Lillian still said bye to Helen after the wedding and not Annie.
this is so well put i love it, and it defends Annie, who I believe was right.
I feel Annie's pain feeling left out
I get most of this but I’m confused about the food poisoning. How did Helen know they were all going to get food poisoning? I never thought that. I just thought she felt the restaurant was gross and didn’t want to eat anything of substance there because it was a hole in the wall. Did I miss something in that scene?

Everyone seems to be arguing in the comments on whether or not it was right for Annie to act like she did. I mean, that was the breaking point for her so it was just meant to happen? Annie lost everything: her husband, her shop, money, and now she see’s Helen trying to buy her best friend at her wedding. Helen ruins every attempt Annie made to make her best friend happy and unintentionally turned them against each other. It sounds like her best friend wasn’t there when she went through the divorce or selling the shop, and that’s ALOT to go though. I find this scene makes sense, because it was like whatever went wrong, Annie handled it. But this was the tipping point. But it’s also a good scene because even after this part, they become even better friends afterwards.
NO NO SHE DOES NOT GET PARTY FAVOR
SHE DOES NOT GET A DOG
I'd reply with "Fine im a cat person anyway!" I am actually 😹
@@satiricwriter me too
The little girl at 02:53 just smiling at the whole thing kills me
That’s what I call a killer smile, just like Edna Mode after saying “one thousand degrees”.
That was the saddest yet funniest friendship break up alive =D

I think all of us at times can relate with Kristen Wiigs character. Sometimes you just want to explode because everyone's happiness just tears you up inside.
This is one of the best scenes in cinema history
It’s realistic because we all know how it feels when you’re best friend finds a new friend that does a bunch of cool stuff without you
This scene is hilarious and some of the best one-liners
It has a huge impact on the movie
I'd be mad too. I don't think I'd act out the way Annie did but it's understandable. What a witch thing to do, upstaging the maid of honor's thoughtful gift by simply throwing your money around? And then strong arming her way into Lillian's life because she doesn't want to share her with her childhood friend. Ugh Helen is such a leech.
I acted like that in my head when my cousin had her bridal shower and her childhood best friend and my aunties best friend went overboard with a Italian theme and I felt left out when it came to her friend Olivia when they talked about their trip and I have been Close to my cousin for years I wish olivia would just back off a little
The title of this video should be "fucking cookie"
yappa08 Nah, the title should be "I Love My New Asshole".
Lol that girl at 1:56 😂 just enjoying Annie go mad
That’s what I call a KILLER smile.
1:59
If you really think about it; with the way things were going for Annie, if she hadn't have done this and been honest about her feelings, there's a good chance she would have lost her best friend forever.
2:00 when the girl said “so awesome” omg I DIED IT KILLED ME 💀💀💀😂😂
ME TOO I watched this movie for the first time in years about 2 weeks ago, and I still think about it a few times a day and crack up
Literally lost it after she stabbed the Eiffel Tower.
MY FAVORITE SCENE IN HISTORY OF MOVIES
Me too.
"I took two dogs already, their in the back of my van"
Hope they have water and air conditioning
Man I've been in this situation and it was so awful. I gave what I thought was my best friend a camping trip together before her wedding and moving away and then the shower hosts one-upped it by giving her a freaking trip to Italy...THE SAME WEEK I booked our camping trip. She did that on purpose. I didn't have like a full-blown meltdown the way she didn't this movie, but I just sat there in stunned shock as she chose her trip over mine infront of everyone. I realized I needed single friends in that moment. I had to hide how upset I was and smile through the shower.
The way she tried to push over the fountain kills me every time. 😆😆😆
I love the stepdaughter's reaction to all of it. Her pure look of delight just gets me.
Also I love how everyone is just staring in horror but helens stepdaughter is grinning and thinks the whole thing is awesome.
Omg, when Annie was like, "It's all HER fault!" Helen has the audacity to shake her head and act all shocked and oblivious. Not sure if it was because Annie is outright accusing her or if she's simply shocked that Annie acted that way to begin with, though.
Annie had the right to blow up like this. She even had the idea of the Paris theme which Helen shut down. And then Helen steals the idea, hence the Paris themed party, and then gives Lillian a trip to Paris, all while stealing Lillian’s friendship from Annie. I’d be mad, too.
helen’s stepdaughter smiling the entire time and saying “so awesome” is the best part of this scene
"AND I LOVE MY NEW ASSHOLE!!!"
HAHAHAHAHAHA BEST LINE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I lost it at 1:37. That little girl's grin ahahahaha
Mert Beloglu "SO AWESOME"
That's how I am when I see people freaking out. I love to see people lose their shit
Lmfao😂😂😂😂
The first time I watched this I definitely understood Annie. She was under so much stress for her BFF. Loved it when she falls down with the cookie.
I saw this when I was a teenager and was like "wow she is seriously unhinged." But now in my 20's I'm like "wow that could me. I get it."
Annie had every right to be mad because Helen was trying to upstage her, but her having outburst like that wasn’t okay.
Exactly. She's stepping on her friend's moment because of her own bs. I honestly hated this film.
@@analigiabatres9114 ikr all her bitterness, and resentment was mostly her feeling sorry for herself, and her lover lifestyle choices.
