  • The Sims 2 Strangetown is just as popular as Pleasantview. But is it the same when it comes down to its fortes and weaknesses? In this video I share my thoughts about it. Enjoy!

    I was probably too young to connect the dots back then, but I just realised the nuance hidden in the lush green lawn of the Smith's house; it's most likely what Pollination Tech#9 thought human houses are supposed to look like and so, the fact that it looks jarring and out of place in Strangetown didn't even cross his mind, lmao.
    This is what makes The Sims 2 so special imo; so many small and subtle details that have you thinking.

    it's true, I think maxis really had a field day showing their creative side with strangetown. pleasantview was the typical and obvious sims 1 sequel hood that kind of reads more like a soap opera.

    In my headcanon Glarn did object to Jenny being with Paul. I think he hated aliens overall after what happened to him. And considering that he abandoned Cloe and Lola to be raised by his ex wife he probably never told his new wife and family about them - which could explain why the rest of the Curious siblings don’t consider them family. It would also explain why Jenny didn’t see a problem with marrying Paul - maybe she never knew that her father was abducted.

    I started replaying this neighbourhood seriously for the first time a couple of weeks ago and so far i am loving it! It really is the perfect sci-fi horror setting and even despite the timeline mess, I think it's okay!

    • @baddynaddy
      @baddynaddy  4 месяца назад

      As I said, all the mentioned downsides can even be useful for storytelling. Let's say that Nervous grows too fast because he's got some superpowers. And Lola and Chloe have passed some time in the fridge, like it was commented below.

  • @Or2DanceFloor
    @Or2DanceFloor 4 месяца назад +10

    Yeah Lola and Chloe's ages are the biggest mess in the neighbourhood. I like to think that Glarn Curious had an affair with Kitty which resulted in Jenny, then got abducted by Aliens and had Lola and Chloe. Then he dumped them on Glabe and left her for Kitty, then the Curious brothers were born. So I consider the alien twins younger than Jenny, but older than Pascal.

    • @baddynaddy
      @baddynaddy  4 месяца назад +2

      A good one! 😎 I was also thinking about a possibility of Glarn having an affair on Glabe at some point, but couldn't imagine how Kitty would consider him hot and seductive while he was pregnant. You've come up with a much more believable storyline.

    • @Or2DanceFloor
      @Or2DanceFloor 4 месяца назад

      oh lol yeah that would be weird. Don't give me the credit though, that idea is probably from reddit or something.
      One thing that I considered was that Jenny might be Glabe's child instead, but that requires even more explanation and isn't supported by the (tbf, corrupted) family tree

    My headcanon when it comes to Lola and Chloe is that after Glabe's death they somehow made contact with some of their alien relatives and went travelling through space for a while. That explains both why they're younger than they should (time dilation while travelling at nearly lightspeed) and why Lola is older (she went back to Earth, and thus to aging at a regular pace, earlier). Granted, it's not compatible with their memories of already being different ages as children, but eh, trying to make every single thing make sense is not something I'm terribly worried about.
    As for Glarn and PT#9 - did he even know that was the guy who abducted him, tho? After all, when a Sim is abducted by aliens, they don't get a relationship with any of them. I think the memories of whatever happens while on the alien ship could be pretty hazy for the person abducted, so it's not a stretch to imagine that they wouldn't remember how exactly their alien abductors looked like. Plus, aliens in general might look very similar and hard to distinguish from each other to Sims who haven't interacted with many of them; and let's not forget about the fact that quite a lot of time passed between Glarn being abducted and Jenny getting married.
    So, yeah, overall I think Glarn just didn't recognize PT#9. I think he did object to the wedding, because the whole experience he had left him with a dislike for aliens in general, but not *nearly* as firmly as he would if he knew who this specific alien was; and eventually he gave up and reluctantly accepted his new son in law.
    Tbh I wouldn't count predestined hobbies as a negative side of Strangetown. That whole system just sucks in itself xD It's honestly like all those calculators for arbitrarily assigning aspirations, but way worse, because unless you use mods it's forced on you by the game.

    I like to headcanon that aliens live longer (same with Caliente sisters). I think Lola becoming an elder first gives the “she’s had a more stressful time” storyline which tracks with her actually working/facing discrimination in politics or something whereas Chloe just messes around and beat’s townies up lol.
    Would love to see you play this hood one time. Excited for a Veronaville review too.

  • @MxEickley

    I think the Curious Sisters what put in some kind of hibernation or something. I really don't have anything to base that on the stuff for their memories and just perhaps the fact that they have alien and they never really said how long aliens live in the game. I know in a regular game alien hybrid Sims do not have a difference from a "normal" Sim but I'm wondering if they were trying to imply that alien genes live longer.

    I love strangetown, it is my most played neighborhood of all but yes unfortunately unlike plesantview it screams base game hood. later expansions being more pleasantview-focused (bluewater village, sim state university, downtown) while there being no fitting business or downtown for strange town really does not help. Playing it with the ultimate collection it needs severe renovations new buildings and custom sub districts

      @@baddynaddyif Pleasantview is everyone cheats on everyone, Strangetown of everyone against everyone. The Specters against the Beakers, the Beakers against the Curioses and the Smiths, the Smiths against the Grunts and the Grunts against EVERYONE.

    Yeah, Naddy. Welcome to Strangetown. Where NOBODY likes each other. But EVERYONE hates Buzz Grunt. Unlike other strange families, the Grunts are not just a simple drama. Anti-militaristic drama. Even a tragedy.

    • @baddynaddy
      @baddynaddy  4 месяца назад

      Well, I've always felt sorry for Buzz for some reason. He's wearing this mask of a super strict and menacing man when he's actually not that bad.
      Besides, maybe PT9 and Stella Terrano are the only "friendly" aliens in the vicinity, they're considered "freaks" but their own kind, and the rest of the aliens have some very nasty plans for the Sim Nation. That would mean that Buzz was right all that time. He was wrong about accusing the innocent aliens, but that was just a part of his job.

      @@baddynaddy Naddy, dear, it DOES NOT justifies his violence towards residents and, first of all, his family. He DOES NOT wearing the mask of the meanest person because HE IS the meanest, violent, aggressive, vain and prideful person. And he always was like that. Wasn’t he a bully in his school years? Wasn’t he the one who beaten and humiliated Loki, Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo? He not only humiliated aliens, he humiliates his neighbours, he humiliates his sons, especially his most unfavourable son, Ripp, whom he considers as unwanted just like Buck, he literally humiliates everyone, brags and shows off with his status and prestige of the most powerful person in the neighbourhood and looks down on them like “you’re nothing to me. You’re nobody. I’m the God, the King and the Leader. His father, Chip, also a General, wasn’t like that, he was much calmer and shy. Buzz is a true representative of a power - he hates and oppresses everything and everyone, even his own people. He’s unlucky to have a son anti-militarist which is Ripp.

    • @baddynaddy
      @baddynaddy  4 месяца назад +3

      1) Loki's relationship towards Buzz - 15/5, Vicund's - 15/10, Pascal's - 14/11, Lazlo's - 12/9. I guess those fights when the boys were teenagers weren't THAT violent. Boys can sometimes fight with each other just for fun. All those memories prove is that Buzz was stronger than his opponents.
      2) Buzz's relationship towards his sons: 20/20 with Buck, 45/20 with Tank, -20/20 with Ripp. For comparison, Daniel and Mary-Sue have -40/-20 with Lilith. I guess this is where we have REAL violence. Additionally, Ripp's attitude towards Buzz is -20/-10 which is A LOT higher than Lilith's attitude towards her parents.
      3) Buzz has 2 nice points. Same for Olive and Nervous's genetic personality. Vicund and Chloe - 3 nice points. Loki and Circe - 0. When you put the bad guys from Strangetown next to each other Buzz doesn't seem so horrible anymore.
      4) The only sim that really hates Buzz in the neighborhood is Olive Specter (-15/-30). And she is the only sim he hates (-20/-50). Perhaps that's because she's responsible for his ex-wife's disappearance? 🤔 And his relationship score with PT9 is -25/35. Looks like they used to be pretty close. At least before PT9 had kicked his butt.
      5) General Buzz's bio: "He used to enjoy barbershop quartet singing". Quite a peaceful occupation, don't you find?
      P.S. It's not the first time I'm noticing this weird manner of talking to me (You left another comment like that under my short about Brandi, which you deleted later). All these "dear" and "sweetie" combined with a pretty aggressive way of describing to me how wrong I am make me feel like I'm a naughty 7-year-old who's being lectured by their teacher. They make me feel inferior to you. Is it really what you're aiming for? If it's not, I suggest stop using the "dears" and "sweeties" at least. Or perhaps you should find another simmer whose opinions won't annoy you so much. There're plenty of wonderful TS2 channels.
