Professional roofer (of more than a decade) here. You can tell people that shingles can't be repaired, but the "Truth" is that _you_ can't repair shingles! Brittle or not, all it takes is patience.
So, why not try being gentle? I'll tell you why: consider the incentives; it's because roofers love crying the 'too brittle' blues to insurance companies because insurance jobs pay well. Homeowner-rate jobs are considerably less profitable, because people complain about every penny. Problem is, the more insurance claims are paid out, the more rates go up. We ALL end up paying for guys like this. This is why companies are now marketing metal roofs, in spite of the reality that they're often a worse product for residential applications.
So then, why not service those shingles while they're warm and soft, so they don't tear? Because this video was pure exaggeration; I could've totally replaced any one of those shingles. And any other roofer worth his Estwing could, too.

These are the kind of roofers that immediately ask you "Did you file a claim with your insurance?" after you call them for a quote on a simple roof repair. My recommendation is call a Mexican roofer. They will hook you up lol!!!

Can you be more careful and use some of that glue sealant stuff on the collateral damage? I moved to the US from the UK and I swear we don’t use these shingles, I can’t understand why they’re used. What a piece of shit. They fly off break easy and are hard to replace yet cost so much to replace. Whose fucking idea is it to keep using these things?

"Impossible" says the man slamming a giant crowbar around the roof making no reasonable, or professional attempt at the prescribed repair.

The problem is that the shingles are brittle. When he tries to lift up one shingle, the adjacent shingles lift and and tear.

@@pv5759 He's only breaking shingles because 1) it's cold, 2) he's being impatient, and 3) he wants an insurance company to pay out so that he can charge a maximum rate that most homeowners don't accept.
