My Wife Stole My Money.
I met my wife when I travelled home to my country from abroad. After few months of long distance phone courteship, I decided to move ahead and marry her since I quickly developed love for her within those few months. We were about to get married. We budgeted and planned for the marriage. After I paid for all the costs of the marriage preparations and the ceremony, I gave my wife some money to keep for me. I instructed her to exchange the money and save in the account I asked her to open for both of us. This was after my summer job as I would no longer come home with any other money because I was going back to school. This was like a joint account but she would be the only signatory to the account since I was living abroad. The reason for giving her the money to keep ahead of my visit and our wedding was because of higher exchange rate.
The day I came back to our country, I was reminded of a particular expense that was forgotten during the planning. I requested my wife to get me some money from there, so I can pay for this extra wedding expenses. She told me that there was no money left in the account, that she had spent all the money. When I asked her what she did with the money, she could not give me any tangible thing she spent the money on. The things she said she spent the money was very flimbsy, something that the cost would not be up to 3% of the amount I gave her. When I seriously requested her to account for the total amount, she got angry and started saying that she was my wife, not a servant, that should be giving me an account of my money she spent. After I managed to figure a way around the expenses, I went ahead with the planned wedding because I did not want to disappoint our invited guests.
However, after the wedding, I insisted that we should go to the bank and get the statement of account so I can see how she withdrew such a big amount of money. When we got to the bank, she refused to sign the form given by the bank to get the statement printed. We even had to quarrel in the banking hall. I went to the bank manager and complained to him. He authorized the statement to be printed. I saw that my wife had finished withrawing and spending a big amount of money that I requested her not to touch, an amount that would last me for the one month I would spend at home. The painful part was that she did not consider that I would get stranded back home and would not be able to have any money to do my personal expenses during my one month vacation. When she saw that I was stranded and angry and willing to cancel the marriage, she started apologizing. Should this act of her's be considered stealing or not? What should I do to a woman I just wedded? Should I cancel the marriage at this early stage or should I forgive her? How would you handle this situation if you were in my shoes?
