Most people will flock to Photoshop to do such things as photo-manipulation, but it isn't always necessary. You can do really cool things with imagery while working within Illustrator, and in todays video tutorial I show you how to turn yourself into a brush stroke poster design, in under 5 minutes.
Making the brush stroke poster was really easy, but also rewarding. There are some technical aspects to the process while working within Illustrator that you should be aware of, and I go through them in todays tutorial video.

I like the trick. Great tutorial.
It should be said, though, that the file won’t be vector, unless you do an image trace on the raster file as well.
I’ve received work a few times in .AI format when, after review, the designer swore it was vector because of the Illustrator format. If there are no nodes, it’s not vector.
Of course, it doesn’t have to be. If you’re creating a piece strictly as-is, or whatever.
Just keep in mind, if you’re client has a production artist to build other pieces with your work as an asset, they might need full vector.
That said... again, GREAT video! Thanks for the tips ❤️🍷

Another thought, hopefully the people writing the brief has the sense to know when to ask for a full vector lol
If the production artist is worth their salt, they’ll know what to do (it’s what we do, after all). It helps, though, to not have those extra steps.

Curious about if there is any difference using:
1.- Unite > Compound path option > Clip the mask.
    Or...
2.- Unite > Remove fill > Clip mask.
    I normally use the 2nd way. 🤔

Hello Tom, you are really doing great for inspiring designers. I watch you quite often and always learn something new. I wonder sometimes whether your logo is inspired by Squarespace or vice versa, just curious to know. Thank you, from India.

great technique but i don't know if its not faster for me to just open Photoshop and use the inbuild tools instead of searching assets that fit my project. I think the first one is the best.

Thanks for sharing this lovely poster tip! I'm happy to see that you're able to create lots of things in Illustrator. Wish I knew these things before, quess my design live would have been a lot easier XD. I always used photoshop for these kind of things, but always struggled with it.
Framer looks really interesting. I'm wondering what's the difference between Adobe XD and Framer. (I personally never use anything else)
Can you also tell my why I should use Framer over Adobe XD?
Thanks again and till the next video!

Hi Tom, I have a question, (this may be hard to describe) In Illustrator, if I want to build a form for filling out (including boxes with lines) normally done with normal lines, but I've been asked to do it as a dotted line. which is simple enough, but how do you do it so that the dots don't overlap each other wrong. In other words, when I build it as single dotted lines they cross over each other, whereas, if I built it with lines joined them all together as one drawing, then converted the line into dots, they would be more uniformed. So my question is how do you convert multiple strokes into one continuous line while still having the ability to change it to dots using the stroke menu. :)

Doesn't work for me. I tried the compound and make mask and both go to blank. What am I doing wrong?
