The clarinet was the originally a defining instrument used in jazz and when the saxophone came along most players were hesitant to start using it because they were so used to the clarinet. Nowadays people barely acknowledge us and how our instrument defined jazz when it was first starting out. It’s really sad tbf that your band director has no fuckin clue about the history of jazz and decided to deny you like that when the clarinet has even more jazz historical significance than the saxophone.

@@Leiviosuh I asked my band teacher if I could join the jazz band even if I play the clarinet and he bluntly refused me :(
