Peter your knowledge of different woods and your craftsmanship and your love for classic wooden boats are astounding. You are a man with many talents and skills. I have a plastic tub of a sailboat and I love wooden boats but just don't have the skill or time to maintain and upkeep them. When I was a child and a teenager my parents owned a 1969 40-foot wooden Newporter and sold it for a 46-foot Garden designed Trawler which I loved and wanted to own. My mom wanted to move back on land after 8 yrs of living on boats. I wasn't ready to be a landlubber again. Being a teenager and not having an adequate job I couldn't own it. Now I am in my late 50s and have a wife that is supportive of me having a boat I have now a 1987 O'Day 272 which we both love and I am slowly replacing her bad wood with new teak. Have to add wood to a tub with sails just to add a bit of character to her. But the real love I have are the woods you just can't beat the beauty the strength of them. Much respect to you and your passion. Cheers

I find it ambiguous to reference a spline in a boat regarding the two completely distinct uses. Ok so here is my comment... I am very disappointed with the loss of word of the week. Maybe don't make it the thing that generates the winning of a t'shirt but please don't stop it. In the beginning when watching your videos I would watch until beer of the week and then stop the video - I am not a beer drinker (not any kind of alcohol as a rule - I know weirdo! ) The thing that made watch to the end was the word of the week. And your interactions with the occasional guest. I will continue to watch all the way through but I loved trying to come up with a sentence that incorporated the word... and expressed my feelings about the video in question. Not to mention that I still haven't won a Travels with Geordie T'Shirt!!! Please reconsider. I love your refit/repair videos - I have learned a lot and I will continue watching for that content. For example today, the use of a piece of board as a router guide. (Though I was very concerned about injury.) Not being the woodworking type (lack of opportunity not desire) I don't have the experience with those tools to know those types of tradesman secrets. Valuable content. Please don't stop - you are a much looked forward to part of my week.
Not a weirdo! My dads family came from Ireland in the late 1800’s to Southern ON. He and my male relatives had serious problems with their alcohol consumption - lost jobs, marriages, companies, careers and time in jail! So I have become a non alcohol consumer. Not a religion problem, just common sense to avoid my early life!
@@JohnKenIRB233 thanks John I’m very happy to be as I am and am no wowser trying to stop others. I guess I’m a bit like you in that I found it to be counterproductive in my life. Maybe Peter and the boys were right. This has generated more discussion and interaction.
I quit drinking for almost ten years when I was in my early twenties. 3 reasons; 1..3 dui's 2.. I almost beat a man to death and have no memory of it ( he started it ) 3..I still went clubbing but did not drink alcohol. After a short while I began to realize what idiots drunks were as I remained sober. After almost 10 years I had 1 beer and quit. I had beaten the demon and could control it. I'm 63 now and I consume about 1 or 2 wine coolers a month. Sometimes a cognac or a bourbon but rarely ever beer and never more than 3 over several hours. It's not necessary to drink to relax or enjoy oneself but it isn't something to fear. Now taking a finger off with a router or other tool, that should inspire a healthy dose of absolute fear induced respect. I was a master carpenter for almost 40 years and I still have all my fingers, toes and other apendages.
Those are the sorts of issues that inspired me to take my sawzall out and remove the cabin house on Tortuga. It was far easier just to build a new cabin house than repair the old house. Of course, Tortuga's house was finished bright. Here is the house build for a little inspiration ruclips.net/video/-SHVY-utneQ/видео.html
I was a little confused by your plan to insert a spline. Normally the splined edge has a groove in which a batten is inserted. The boards are still butted together. Of course, I see what you did but couldn’t that spline be of any width?
I agree with the terms ambitious use and not sure how to be specific without long description. I am in the wrong boat to look it up in books of oldest use. Not sure on the width I have seen multiple. One was to act like a lap joint. If I did today's example my mahogany house would just rip the glued spline up, something must move.

*the tarpy thingy* What I really liked the most with this video (and of ALL the other videos you have produced so far --- coz sometimes I've been notoriously angry with you) is something you did that is totally the opposite of a video I saw and commented on yesterday. I won't name the channel, just mention they're currently ambassadors of a certain plastic recycling initiative among sailors ... hahaha). So what is it? It might be that there has been other sailing/boating/cruising channels that have done boat refit/sanding/resin work the right way while the boat has been on or near the water, but certainly many haven't: no catchment of the shit. Do they forget that the resins/paints/epoxy/etc they spread all over are oil products, ie plastics? Do they forget it will turn into micro and nano plastics? Do they forget what such tiny plastics does to our oceans, both marine and terrestrial flora and fauna, and ultimately ourselves? Maybe it's lack of knowledge? Or pure idiocy? So when you made that clever catchment tarpy thingy, boyy I smiled. Thx Peter. You made my day.

I guess I have my guess Peter: You are a university mathematics professor who lectures 8-12 hours per week with one additional office hour. Your earned income is in the range of 100K. Am I close? No wonder you have the time and motivation for wooden boats!
Sorry but I completely disagree with the removal of the word of the week. It was one of the reasons i was so drawn to the channel. You did your thing. Not what everyone else wants you to do.
One problem with the new t-shirt winning mechanism is that it encourages new comments, not replies. So the comment with the most comments may only have two or three replies...
@@bobadam7021 that was not the case here. The wood on either side and below was solid. In that case 5200 is stronger than the material it is adhered to. I have heard many utubers curse at finding something attached with 5200. I myself have been an admirer of its strength when used on my boats.
I think you're supposed to say something like. "If you liked the show give me a thumbs up. If you didn't like it leave a comment and tell me why". This will tend to spawn debate and spike the algorithm as your show people a passionate about. So say something slightly controversial and ask for comments 🙄.

Thank you. I’m not perfect but I really feel horrible thinking of getting some crap in the water. Pure sawdust, less so.
@@TravelsWithGeordie Ofc no problem with sawdust: it's all natural (ppl), you're not producing saw mill quantities, nor do you use acid or toxic wood.
So we have to use “ no more word of the week “ in a sentence?
so we can`t afford petrol, there is a start of a food shortage, Electric, and Gas is going up every week, we are really starting to struggle. something not quite right here, ???
I guess I have my guess Peter: You are a university mathematics professor who lectures 8-12 hours per week with one additional office hour. Your earned income is in the range of 100K. Am I close? No wonder you have the time and motivation for wooden boats!
Ha, Paul, you jest! I'm a high school dropout who barely survives on what this channel can provide.
Sorry but I completely disagree with the removal of the word of the week. It was one of the reasons i was so drawn to the channel. You did your thing. Not what everyone else wants you to do.
There was a man from Bombay, who was sailing to China one day. He was caught at the tiller by a sex starved gorilla, and China is long, long way.
Is there anything more comforting than Breasts?
Ahhh breastwork! Fond memories!
One problem with the new t-shirt winning mechanism is that it encourages new comments, not replies.
So the comment with the most comments may only have two or three replies...
P.s. I have t-shirt already, so am out of the running!
Does a stormy night on a boat improve the sex?
(cricket sounds)
If it was 5200 you would not be able to reef that out of there that easily!
Sure you would. If the wood around the 5200 rots to powder, it comes out in a nice neat little ball of goo.
The inquiry is why,
you let "word of the week die"?
We all will get by,
without it though.
we watch youtube video's to be entertained, not to enter some childish competition. Really peter, you have a decent channel, don't try and pad it out with banal shite.
Well it's time for me to unsubscribe. The incentive is now gone. bye.
Seriously? It's incredibly generous for him to give away at least 52 shirts a year. $1040-ish a year as a thank you for comments. I hope you were joking.
