  • Metal forming simulation requires nonlinear analysis due to large deformations (geometric nonlinearities), contact, and material nonlinearities (stress-strain relation is not linear). How do we model these nonlinearities to simulate real-world conditions in Simcenter 3D?
This demonstration shows how to use Solution 402, a multi-step nonlinear kinematic solver, for analyzing the plastic deformation of a bracket.
A step-by-step guide for creating the simulation files, preparing the geometry for meshing, modeling a ram to deform the bracket, reviewing the stress-strain curve of our nonlinear material, defining the time-based enforced displacement on the ram, defining the contact, solving, and reviewing the results.
Simcenter 3D version used in demo = prior to 2206

    ▶️ About Simcenter:
Engineering departments today must develop smart products that integrate mechanical functions with electronics and controls, utilize new materials and manufacturing methods and deliver new designs within ever shorter design cycles. This requires current engineering practices for product performance verification to evolve into a Digital Twin approach, which enables to follow a more predictive process for systems driven product development.
Simcenter software uniquely combines system simulation, 3D CAE and test to help you predict performance across all critical attributes earlier and throughout the entire product lifecycle. By combining physics-based simulations with insights gained from data analytics, Simcenter helps you optimize design and deliver innovations faster and with greater confidence.

Could we see a tutorial on how to use SOL402 for impact testing? I have already mastered more or less non-linear analysis, but dynamics are a mystery to me. In my job we rarely use it and always go for the real life experiment. How nice it would be to optimize the design before we order the plastic components. Plastic covers in negative temperature become very fragile and the dropped ball test is their bane.
