Making Tangerine Wine With Tasting

  • Describes the initial steps in making 1 gallon of tangerine using fresh tangerines.
    Ingredients:
    5 pounds of Tangerines
    1 black teabag
    Handful of rasins
    3 cups sugar
    1 gallon water
    1/2 teaspoon bread yeast (modified 10/10/2023)
    1/2 teaspoon wine yeast (or bread yeast) (modified 10/10/2023)
    1/4 lemon (modified 10/10/2023)
    During the first 3 days give your musk a good stir, and to break up the fruit cap that will form if you are not using straining bags. Rack into secondary after 5 - 7 days, and continue to rack every 4-6 weeks until clear. Degas, back sweeten, bottle let age for at least 12 months total.

    Try putting your zest in a bowl and a cup of sugar put a lid on and leave overnight. You will have the most amazing Tangerine syrup you have ever seen. Then use the syrup to make the wine. I think you will be very pleased with the results. P.S. use the juice too.

    I appreciate the "this is what I'd do different" that you include with the tasting. Tangerines were always my favorite growing up. I'll need to try this at some point.

    You are directly for the point. My orange wine is about 10 months old. My impressions are that:
    1) alcoholic taste yet 11-12% (dry)
    2) the first thing that comes to mouth is baked orange (I did boiled the orange liquid) liquid as a first moment, but then it comes a baked orange taste. I'm almost sure this taste won't desapear, but alcohol will fade out in the future maybe. Now drinking grape commercial wines, my impression are that these are way more acid. Unfortunately I didn't get the pH of my orange wine. Could you share your opinion about the orange wine?

      I second the notion of not making water melon wine again. First ever wine I made, thought it could not go wrong (the must was sooo good and sweet... Should just have drunk it before fermenting it..) 😅 only wine, so far, I chose to pour in the sink (29 bottles..!) 😂😂

    I have some a very serious question for you, if those are tangerines, where did you purchase them? Even though I am 78 years old, I am very far from being senile, so I do know what I am talking about. When I was a kid, my mother would buy 5 lbs of Tangerines around Thanksgiving. They were small and had a very rough, NOT smooth peel, that practically fell off once you began to peel it. What all the stores and markets, in my area, are passing off as tangerines are clementines. Clementines are NOT tangerines, no matter what the powers that be told us. Clementines have a very sooth skin, and they are a bit harder to peel than a tangerine, also, clementines do not have the same flavor as a tangerine - (tangerines have a sweeter taste). Nobody in my area has been able to buy REAL tangerines in over 10 years. Once in a while, a few stores will sell 5 lb bags of what they label as "REAL FLORIDA TANGERINES", that are NOT tangerines either, as they are about the size of a small navel orange with a very smooth skin and hard to peel. What I see in your video, are clementines, NOT tangerines. Back in the day, tangerines were very similar to mandarin oranges. Other than that, You make great videos and I enjoy them very much.

      Walmart. They had tangerines written on the bag, so that's good enough for me.
