James Harris aka Kamala was an awesome wrestler... When have you ever seen a guy that size that could leap like that? I watched him in Mid-South and he was great... RIP to a legend... D
I grew up watching Memphis wrestling and remember well when Kamala made his debut. He quickly became mine and all the guys I ran with at the times favorite wrestler. RIP Mr. Harris, you will always hold a special place with me.
I subscribed after the Buddy Roberts Bio and I am ALL IN on these !! I first seen Kamala in Memphis were they did that promo on Jerry Jarretts farm . Also Lawler painted his face and body and Kamala asked Jerry "why you paint a banana on my belly ? " It is a moon , not a banana ! LOL !
interesting to hear how harris got into wrestling :) definitely a case of right time right place and also harris taking a chance and turning his life around
His luck did seem to be one extreme or the other. In the right place at the right time, but not getting the same pay as the other wrestlers. He led an interesting life.
Most people just remember Kamala from WWF . But that dude wrestled years before then , Even as Kamala he wrestled every where before WWF . Brody selling for him like he did says a lot about him too . Kamala gotr paid the most in WWf im sure , But his best work was before those days . I still have his rubber LJN figure as I also have 90 % of them still from my childhood . Kamala was one of a kind . I hate he went through so much towards the end .
Yeah it's a real shame with guys like Kamala, Jim Duggan, Harley Race and a few others. Their WWF runs are all some people know, but they had great careers for years before then.
James Harris, yes, couldn't remember his name.... 14:16 I was at that match in Maple Leaf Gardens, it's was this day in particular that Debiase and Virgil were throwing money at the fans... Thanks for this WOW! Great info
RIP james Harris. the Kamala gimmick was one of the greatest heel gimmicks. he made the wwf so much money ; they didnt help him when he desperately needed help with his medical bills.
Kamala did not wrestle his last match in 2002. His final WWF match took place in 2006 or 07 against Umaga. He also wrestled Bryan Danielson around the same time in ROH I believe. I worked 2 shows with Kamala in 2003 or 4 in central Illinois.
It's been awhile since I did this video, but I think there is a place where I misspeak and say 2002 instead of 2010. Things happen when you spend that much time on a video and have to edit and check everything yourself. Lol
Kamala has always held a special place for me. The first time I saw pro wrestling live the main event was Kamala and David Von Erich. I remember him walking out and everybody was just silent and still, like we were all afraid to move. haha.
Its so sad that he ended with no money , like Taker get paid a huge pay day and Kamala getting not even close Vince could and should take care of his former guys think even if he gave them all 2 million he would stil be rich and then his stars of old would be set and not working until their 80 unless they want to
Also i thought the WWF should have Kamala with a tag team partner Toney Atlas when he came back as Samba Simba as African tag team paint Toney face up dont talk about his return have him just hit the ring with his face painted like Kamala
Bill Watts for being called crued rude racist sure paid his african american wrestlers good like Kamala the best and JYD had his best push ever Butch Reed , Brickhouse Brown , Snowman lol sorry but he had a chance and he gave them chances when most places had 1 African American as a star so Kamala shouldve stayed JYD , REED to and maybe MID - SOUTH would have had a chance but WWF did the UGANDA WARRIOR wrong and i wish they would send his kids a legends check in his name
That's what I've always thought. I believe it was Kamala himself that said he didn't remember Watts ever saying anything racist. I think a lot of the accusation against Watts are BS.
Damn. I did. I said he died in 2020 then said it had been ten years. Not sure what happened there. I script these out so chances are I started to say something else and changed it at the last minute but didn't change the "ten years".
If I remember right Harris was paid $800 a match against Hogan. I don't know how much Hogan made per match, but I do know it was in the thousands. Jesse Ventura claimed Hogan made more than everyone else combined, which if you include his cut of merch sales that is easy to believe.

My first LJN wrestling figure!

Interesting back story 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I loved Kamala back in the day. He use to scare the sh*t out of 8 year old me back in the early 80’s.
His music just hit different. I am absolutely fascinated by his character.
Congratulations for this excellent wrestling share, like dear friend!
Happy Easter!
Greetings and hugs from Italy!

Congratulations! Well done. Bravo! I like it so much.
Have a wonderful time. Greetings
Thank you! You too!
Vince McMahon and WWF did this man Wrong
I loved watching Kamala and Bruiser Brody beat the crap oit of each other. And it was always a bonus when Friday got smacked around, too.
Great video, RIP Kamala.
awesome video thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the visit
That was awesome! 😎 I really enjoyed the video. Excellent work!
Glad you enjoyed it! It took me awhile to put together.

That's cool. Kamala was part of the main event the first time I ever saw pro wrestling live.
RIP james Harris. the Kamala gimmick was one of the greatest heel gimmicks. he made the wwf so much money ; they didnt help him when he desperately needed help with his medical bills.
F WWE. James deserved better
@@zemox2534 I know they could have helped with his medical bills.
Rest In Peace Kamala

I would think Kamala and his Family would like to Forget that seeing as the Way Vince and WWF did him Wrong .
Kamala was one of the best I didn't see much of him only a few wccw and wcw and wwf but not many matches though

Kamala was a great gimmick.
If he died in 2020 I promise at the time of me typing this 10 years have not passed😂 Nice documentary.
Yeah I had a couple of flubs. I was in a rush to finish it. That was supposed to be more than a decade after his last match.
Sugar Bear Harris and Mississippi Mauler.
Before Kamala became VP of the United States
Didn't laugh nearly as much back then.

Love your videos but he's been dead for 3 years not 10 as you stated
Did I say ten? Slip of the brain. Yes, he died in August of 2020.

No worries even the best of us make mistakes. Just thought you would want to know!@@AViewFromTheMiddle
Hiw much money sis Harris get & how much money did Hogan get?

@@AViewFromTheMiddlehe was paid or he claimed?
1:19 Time to roll the pant legs up, the bullshjt is beginning to rise.
She should have stay a wrestler, such a bad VP
Every time I see "Kamala" trending somewhere James Harris is still the first person I think about.
Ugandia? Wtf?
