In 1968 I arrived as a 19 year old kid, losing my college Student Deferment by dropping 4 units of calculus. I saw glimpses of familiar places, now lost forever. Thank you. I can honestly say, my 8 weeks of Basic Combat Training (BCT) was far worse than my year in Vietnam as a REMF. I guess, the Cadre did their job well. Thank you Drill Sergeants! I qualified as an Expert with the M-14.
My brother took his AIT at Fort Ord before being sent to Viet Nam in 1970. He did become an expert with the 1911 .45 pistol there.
I was stationed there from 1984-1986 I don't see the new barracks that looked like condos. I was surprised this base was closed down. Most of the old barracks were administration buildings. Miss the planet.💯💯🇺🇲🇺🇸 HHB DIVARTY

Fort Ord was not the largest U.S. military installation. Not even close. It wasn't even the largest in California.
