I initially thought "소리꾼" translated roughly as "masters of sound", which may not be entirely inaccurate, but apparently, the term was used for legendary pansori vocalists... I've been in since My Pace, but yeah, I think God's Menu was the turning point for _them,_ too. All this time, from District 9, right up until Levanter, they were trying to figure out exactly who _they_ were, and what _"Stray Kids"_ was. But I think Side Effects was the start of it. They took all those criticisms of their "noise music" to heart and questioned themselves for a bit, then decided to double down; to them, the "noise" wasn't a bug, it was a _feature._ That hook line, "I'm not sorry, I'm dirty"... I'm still trying to figure out if that's supposed to be a pun, because "소리", of course, sounds like "sorry"... is there a word for "dirty" that sounds kinda like "꾼"? 🤔 That bloke with the 괭과리 looks like he's _really_ into it..! 🤣 13:00 It's just a hunch, but I wonder if they might have nipped out to Yongin (Changbin's hometown) to film some of those scenes. They've filmed out there before, and some of it looks... _familiar._ My brain is noodles and Swiss cheese, though, so who knows.
Oooh I didn’t know that! It would fit with the sort of traditional theme - I was thinking it was a combo of the word sound (소리) and like hunter/poacher (사냥꾼)?? Like they were going to knock us out with their sounds?? That could just be my thought! As far as I know there isn’t a word for dirty that sounds like 꾼 but the sorry/소리 is a good parallel too!! And for sure, I think they were experimenting and finding their base sound too! I’m so glad they did - their music before was good but I really feel like they could really blossom once they finally found their stride internally and externally with fan support soaring! And it def could be yongin! I never made it out there but I am not the korean landscape expert 😂😂
@@paigewhit4249 Well, "꾼" seems to represent a term for "expert" or "specialist". Note that in Changbin's second part, he refers to the woodcutter as "나무꾼". Of course "나무" means "tree", so with that context, it could be interpreted as someone who specialises in trees. (For the record, I'm partially getting this from PD of Form of Therapy, so credit to them for pointing it out in the first place.) And on the identity front, Chan did a recent (rare) solo interview, and hinted that while he was still _personally_ searching for himself, Stray Kids as a group have figured out who they are.
