Did you ever see the tour where Midge Ure played and sang the stuff with John Foxx, ie. Before Vienna was finished? Interesting take on Systems of Romance so quite similar imho
@@DavidBrockes not everything. Dangerous Rhythm was a lame single, I was expecting danger and its just a pleasant little soft reggae ditty. My Sex would've been better as a single. Quite a few forgettable punky tracks early on. They're surfacing on RUclips now, like TV Orphan, I Came Here to Meet you etc which are worth a listen but quite forgettable
Many years ago read an interview discussing how they pulled off the Rage From Eden songs live. The technical aspects was staggering. Musical and technological genisuses all of fhem.
10 years ago and i was there! i moved from Italy to London only for this concert. April 30th 2009 my birthday; a fantastic gift! I was born in 1981 and I was too young to live the new wave and the new romantic hera; I believe that Ultravox and Japan (my favorite of all...) are two fundamental groups in Brit. music, on tiptoe they left essential tracks. Thanks.
Midge Ure is a national treasure. Ultravox were like a great secret, but Midge made their sound palatable to the masses. When he first came to fame , it was about the look (which kick-started the 'New Romantic' era), but this is a good reminder of what a good musician he is. Great to see Chris Cross, Warren Cann and Billie Currie still going strong. The intro to Hymn gave me goose-bumps. Again, great to see them all smiling. The audience did a great job.
I finally saw Midge Ure after 30 plus years of being an Ultravox fan in NYC in an acoustic concert...His voice is still strong and amazing. I dont know how he still tours so much and never gives less than 100%. He is a true musician and one of the nicest people you could ever meet! One of the most underrated performers of all time!!
Yes they transcend the New Romantic scene. Both Midge and Billy told Steve Strange to f*** off at some point. My only complaint is when Midge starts singing like Phil Collins on "Lament".
@@soulminer yeah, lame'n'it. Jokes aside, I now think that song is the one of the strongest on that album imho, but slightly foreshadowing the horror that was follow when they lost Warren and went American sounding (always a bad move in the mid 90s for British New wave acts)
Brought up on Ultravox .. Will die with Ultravox still pulsating through my veins ! There is not one other musical group like them in a class of their own !! Midge Ure's voice is subliminal .. John Foxx's wasn't too bad either ! Massiv' respect to Midge, John Foxx, Chris Cross, Warren Cann an Billie Currie !
One of the best bands to come out of the 80s for sure. On the one hand a "real" band with a "proper" drummer and Midge laying down great guitar licks, then all of a sudden they break out with drum machines, electronic percussion etc but always the lush synths and atmospheric piano chords and riffs. Sublime..........!
+Adam Borseti They are amazeballs, but thanks to noticing your avatar, now I know I'll be listening to Rhythm of Youth next :). I wish the record label didn't make them change a song title from Safe to Dance to Safety Dance and use a gimmicky opening, but that Men w/o Hats album is pretty fun.
+Joe G Huh.... I've been a big fan of Men Without Hats for years; even saw them live and met Ivan.... but I've never heard that story about the Safety Dance..... Also, what was the gimmicky opening you were referring to? Was it the acoustic version of "Ban the Game"? If so, meh..... it's 49 seconds of Ivan singing and playing Piano, I'll take it.
+Adam Borseti Adam, this may all be hogwash as to something I read 25 yrs ago, but it is something that made sense to me at the time. As to the opening, I'm referring to the spelling out of Ssss-AAaaa- Ffffff etc. that is often edited out. When I first heard the song, it seemed in many passages he is saying Safe t' dance, rather than Safety Dance, though he clearly opens and closes with the title. I always thought conceptually that it made more sense as Safe To Dance as well, tail end of the cold war and all..... Way back when, I also saw the lyrics represented as "doing it wall to wall" rather than "pole to pole", which lent credibility to the rumor that the label wanted lyrics tweeked to create the hook (and do the pole dance in the video).. That is how it's represented on lyricfreak from Universal Music Publishing Group, but it is pole to pole on other sites. May all be nonsense, but fun to think about. :)
When I was listening to Ultravox in the early 80's, I was alone....most of my Friends could not relate.....I know, I know.... I should have made better Friends!
The majestic power, beauty and emotion by these four men penetrates the soul. At many points during this concert, I find myself moved to tears by Midge Ure's beautiful voice. Absolutely stunning.

Echoed. Great song. I love trying and failing to blast the vocals out lol. I love Ultravox's lyrics. Proper intellectual pop music. Warren Cann's drumming though :)
Outstanding performance! These guys age like fine wine. Their sound is just as fresh as it was 40 years ago. The vocals are still on the money, the music is amazing, the equipment is awesome. This is the first time I see them perform live and their talent just blows me away. Thanks SO much for sharing.
It is difficult to believe that they had actually dumped him at one point and replaced him with Mark Brzezicki of Big Country ... a crime to music I say...
@@delby66 oddly enough 2 of my favourite bands contain 2 of the drummers I highly rate, Ultravox and The Police! I highly rate Nigel Glockler of Saxon too.
Trumped all of you 65's - I'm a lot older and the soundtrack to my life was The Beatles / The Who etc.. but my appreciation of all things modern and important carried on even until now... I was born in 1952 and saw these amazing bands such as Ultravox when I was 30+ ... Astounding times with the glut of phenomenal groups and artists that litter my life - Litter isn't an appropriate word as virtually every gig I went to just lit up my life...Whether it was Led Zep in 1972 or Calexico in 2007... The shows by all the artists have been a blessing in so many ways.
It's an overture. I can imagine the outset of a spy film where the lead characters begin their adventure in the midst of the Cold War in Vienna. Blondes. Walther ppk. Poison umbrella tips. Exploding briefcases. Blondes. Fast cars. Brunettes. Blondes.
One of the few live concerts better than the studio recording of the album/s. The drumming was more visceral, and the sound felt 'bigger' in the building. These guys got better with time.
No matter how many times Icome back to listen to this show, I simply cannot believe how good Midge's voice was after decades. OK, this was in 2010 but even then his was better than when I saw them live in the early 80's. As for the rest of the band............ superb!
Amazing how the music of Ultravox guided me through youth and all of my life now to my late 50's... and is still fascinating. True musicians with style and class. Unbeaten still after all these years!
I have been suffering from clinical depression for a number of years now and singing along to one of my favourite bands has raised my mood considerably. Thank you so much for the upload.
How the heck can anyone simultaneously play keyboards and guitar or bass without growing extra arms?... Amazing. And still brilliantly talented, after all these years.
I saw them in Amsterdam and was thinking - at that time - wow! There were a lot of synth bands at that time like Passion Pit, MGMT amongst others who I really liked and saw live but nothing compared to the energy and musicianship live of that concert from Ultravox. Made me think... So yes! There are some new bands who very interesting but live don’t cut the mustard with backing tapes and auto tune.
You may believe or not, I just saw them/him for the first time in my life ( I'm 53) , and I love and listen to them since the '80, with many tears in my eyes back then, and even now. I always felt Midge is a good and honest human being, and now, after looking him in the eyes- I'm sure he really is. So many sublime and noble moments and blessing for my young soul 35 years ago. Thank you.
I went to Hammersmith and watched a band who were there for the sole pleasure of playing great music. All I can say is that every band member has still got it! Ultravox were amongst my favourite groups of the eighties and I'm proud to be one of their fans, they command my respect with aplomb. Glad to see Midge is back making his music public, love the newish single BECOME
Vienna was my introduction to popular music at the age of 10. Loved Ultravox and Midge Ure ever since. Amazing live performance.Incredible music, sound better live than on record, amazing musicianship. Sound track of my life.
So many astonishingly powerful songs, instantly and uniquely Ultravox, that sound as fresh now as they did several decades ago. They can now be described as timeless.
I saw them in Berlin during this tour and even participated in Meet and Greet. Gentemans were nice, kind, funny and generous in signing everything we gave them. The gig was fantastic and I sang every sogn with them including all Billy's solos. I remember feeling like I was 16 again. Priceless :))
Saw Ultravox in the early 80's in Ann Arbor Mi. They were great. Never thought I'd see a reunion, but I'm glad they did it.I'd go in a heartbeat if they played So. Cal.
GOD!!!! I wish I was there for that performance. It was AMAZING!!!!!!!! They're an incredible band both in the studio and live. I saw them in Toronto back in the 80's. I'm 60 now and they still are one of my favourite bands.
Oh wow... This is amazing. I grew up on UV. I've just travelled through a +30 year time warp! Can't believe Midge can still sing like that, awesome stuff...
I always had divided feelings about Ultravox. Respect on one side and avoidance on the other. Somewhere in between there is sheer brilliance I once again caught up with in recent years. Also not fond of reunions that much but everyone's got their guilty pleasures - and this is definitely something I'd love to have seen live. Warren Cann is a genius.
Im born 1964. Was a "synth rocker" during the 80´s. Ultravox was one of my top played groups. The concert really brings back memories! Thank you for this consert Ultravox! // Swedish fan 4 ever
They are geniuses, one of the best concerts which I watched they have ”Monument” from 1982. perfect and great as well .... thanks for this upload John Doe ....
Man this is awesome! I had no clue it even existed. These boys have STILL got it. Totally love it when a band sounds like the studio album live. BC is a god of the keyboards. I just bought the DVD/CD version of this! Thanks for posting! Made my day.
Indeed... Saw them at The Roundhouse in 1974 and was completely blown away.. Incredible band led by an unbelievably gifted drummer in Christian Vander.
I saw them at the Stone in San Francisco back in 80? 81? on the original Rage tour. They were AMAZING! I absolutely love Ultravox and it's great to see the Return to Eden show online. Ultravox was and still is in a class by itself.
Wow, this looks great. I saw them at the Glasgow Apollo on the Quartet and Lament tours, but have to say after seeing the U-Vox show at the Barrowlands and being so disappointed with them trying to be "pop" I never bothered to see them live again, but hell decades later this would change my mind... and make me feel like a time traveller..
Alison Mac Glasgow! 🏴❤️🏴! I was there for a week in October. Oh how I LOVE Scotland. Must’ve been insane seeing them there as Midge was brought up very close to Glasgow.. I went to the Scotia Pub and the band Black Triangle toasted to me the American! Going to busk my electric violin at Edinburgh Fringe in 2020...❤️🌟✌🏿❤️✌🏻 Billy Currie is a big reason I play violin.
I always get blown away by this guys, they are awesome, all their performances are and sound like the studio versions and even better I must say, I was 11 years old when i first heard them on the radio back in '81, still love them !!
Pamiętam moje pierwsze zderzenie z muzyką New Romantic :) . Kapela nurtu New Romantic wielka . Jeszcze raz dziękuje za przypomnienie się :)
Dorastałem wraz z nurtem new romantic i pamiętam tamte kapele, tamte klimaty... Tomek Beksiński puszczał nocą te utwory i dzięki niemu poznałem wiele wspaniałych zespołów. Do dziś ich słucham z przyjemnością. Pozdrawiam.
Its like no time has passed, they were so polished in the delivery of a fabulous concert. As a teenager of the 80's, they are still one of my all time favorite bands. Please tour again!
I saw this tour in Bochem, Germany. Met the band as well. I've been to 200+ shows in my life and this was by far the best show I've ever seen. Love me some Ultravox!
To John Doe. Thank you for posting. I had watched/listened many many times. This was THE sound of the 80s for me. Even my 14 y.o. reckons 80s music is easily the best. If someone said I had a choice between seeing Ultravox live with this line up and Queen with Freddie, I'd take the Ultravox tickets. Albeit in a close call. Their Live Aid set (and Midge Ure's contribution to the event) were both massively underrated.
Absolutely fantastic, has never been matched and never will be . Timeless and always relevant , aren't we the lucky ones to have such talent in our time

I love Ultravox BUT Vienna was when they went commercial, anything before that is good..Ultravox Ultravox, Systems Of Romance, or Ha Ha Ha...Once Johnny left.........well it wasn't Ultravox, call them something else, that's for sure. ....Vienna, poor johnny.....
Playing those synth bass lines by hand when they could so easily have been sequenced. These guys are - and always have been - the real deal.
Thanks.
Splendido concerto. Uno dei gruppi preferiti nella mia adolescenza.
Original and pioneers of complex and deep sounds Midge is national treasure and co
Well I see they played one John Foxx number, "Touch and Go" (aka Mr X). Just kidding, people.

Olivia Yates ......
Rob Sweeney Nicely said!!
meh, they come off as a little too christiany for my liking.. keep your invisible bullshit to yourself I say.
Note perfect by 4 chaps who know exactly what they are doing............ #Legends
Yes indeed.
Bloody impressive skills = RESPECT
It's incredible just how close they sound to the albums! They really are amazing!
... well, most parts are sequenced, but yes they are great !
Dude recreate the synth sounds of the original album on the Minilogue and sell it!!!!
This concert is incredible from start to finish, musically and vocally.
When I was listening to Ultravox in the early 80's, I was alone....most of my Friends could not relate.....I know, I know.... I should have made better Friends!
'yehhh. well .. we stand alone .. :) :)
In my case, even i had friends that related with this band, it was my choice, not theirs.Alone, or with friends, these are personal choices.
The majestic power, beauty and emotion by these four men penetrates the soul. At many points during this concert, I find myself moved to tears by Midge Ure's beautiful voice. Absolutely stunning.

Many thanks for the set list. Love All stood still. Amazing solos.
i like this tanks
Great work dude!
Ultravox and Japan without a doubt the two best bands of the 80s. Still listen to both bands today.
I took a trip to see Japan live in Brussels ...it was perfection , best sounding gig I've been to :-)
Nonsense.... They're both very good but really ??!!
Damn straight!!!!
I'd say Talk Talk were the best but that's just my opinion.
Two of the best for sure, but my 2 favourite 80's bands were Echo and the Bunnymen and OMD. Also New Order.
One of the most dignified comebacks of any 80s band, hands down
TheDaddyO44 almost too to be true. So glad it is.
What a f###ing set list
I loved it when Midge said they feared no-one would turn up :), true genius gentleman!
I love this band ,greets from Poland !!
Visions in blue is such a fantastic song..... I always get breathless while listening to it...
Indeed, such saddness...
Tender & powerful @ the same time, I was gobsmacked when I first hear it in the early -80's
frankbg1 could it be better than a silent cry in the dark
I always get goose bumps when I hear it:)
Echoed. Great song. I love trying and failing to blast the vocals out lol. I love Ultravox's lyrics. Proper intellectual pop music. Warren Cann's drumming though :)
Still watching this in 2020.Brings me back those New Wave memories.
Still watching 2021😊🇦🇺
Astradyne is my favourite track. The song still gives me goosebumps 40 yrs on. What a performance !
Outstanding performance! These guys age like fine wine. Their sound is just as fresh as it was 40 years ago. The vocals are still on the money, the music is amazing, the equipment is awesome. This is the first time I see them perform live and their talent just blows me away. Thanks SO much for sharing.
Warren Cann, the human Drum Machine. The guy's incredible.
Great comment Rick. He's right up there with Stephen Morris of New Order and Stewart Copeland of The Police.
Mr. X
Saw him playing with Huw Lloyd Langdon in 89 after he left Ultravox.
think I was very lucky to be born in 65 as it meant this was the soundtrack to my teenage years
yes im lacky
Hey Iam Another 65 born lucky one!
i was born 65 too..
Me to December 1965
Trumped all of you 65's - I'm a lot older and the soundtrack to my life was The Beatles / The Who etc.. but my appreciation of all things modern and important carried on even until now... I was born in 1952 and saw these amazing bands such as Ultravox when I was 30+ ... Astounding times with the glut of phenomenal groups and artists that litter my life - Litter isn't an appropriate word as virtually every gig I went to just lit up my life...Whether it was Led Zep in 1972 or Calexico in 2007... The shows by all the artists have been a blessing in so many ways.
Kicking off this concert with the electronic instrumental masterpiece that is Astradyne is pure musical genius.
It's an overture. I can imagine the outset of a spy film where the lead characters begin their adventure in the midst of the Cold War in Vienna. Blondes. Walther ppk. Poison umbrella tips. Exploding briefcases. Blondes. Fast cars. Brunettes. Blondes.
Wow has Midge Ure's voice held up well! So many memories.
It’s such a time when we became……..something more than ourselves…
One of the few live concerts better than the studio recording of the album/s. The drumming was more visceral, and the sound felt 'bigger' in the building. These guys got better with time.
Ultravox still has the magic. Musicians of today should listen and learn from this brilliant music as nothing beats Ultravox
Absolutely stunning rendition of every song, what a band ,special.
Thank you so much for the upload.
this is what should be in the so called Rock n Roll hall of fame....this is genius
I love Ultravox
How the heck can anyone simultaneously play keyboards and guitar or bass without growing extra arms?... Amazing. And still brilliantly talented, after all these years.
The Edge can..... ;-)
Then the Edge is brilliant, too. :)
Well, in just one song.... (New Year's Day)
Practice
check out Geddy Lee (Rush)!
Time stands still and I'm happy that I grew up with their music.
Bands could not pull music of like this today bring back the 80s
I saw them in Amsterdam and was thinking - at that time - wow! There were a lot of synth bands at that time like Passion Pit, MGMT amongst others who I really liked and saw live but nothing compared to the energy and musicianship live of that concert from Ultravox. Made me think...
So yes! There are some new bands who very interesting but live don’t cut the mustard with backing tapes and auto tune.
Absofucking loutely!
💪💪💪💪
Bravo Panowie, historia new romantic . Dorastałem z wami :). Co tu pisać, klasyka .
Piękny koncert , panowie w świetnej formie , nr 1 gatunku new romantic
Vienna was my introduction to popular music at the age of 10. Loved Ultravox and Midge Ure ever since. Amazing live performance.Incredible music, sound better live than on record, amazing musicianship. Sound track of my life.
What a performance, fantastic. Time for another one guys!!!
billie currie brilliant.
So happy they haven't 'messed' around with their songs like other groups do... just played them as they were.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow. Had me hooked start to finish. Wasn't sure they could live up to the amazing promise of "Astradyne" at the beginning, but they did it.
Cal.
Brilliant...saw them in Manchester a few years ago, place was packed and they were quality....nuff said.
Oh Vienna!
The 80's Bohemian Rhapsody?
Classic and timeless and still pisses on anything made today.......
I LOVE your comment, Vienna totally is the 80s Bohemian Rhapsody. Very clever observation there *
kraftwerk with a soul
It's incredible just how close they sound to the albums! They really are amazing!
Fucking fantastic, soaring synths, perfect vocal...loved it back then and still do now..just wished I'd been there for this gig
Still can’t believe Chris has passed, Rest in Peace wonderful soul xxx
I always had divided feelings about Ultravox. Respect on one side and avoidance on the other. Somewhere in between there is sheer brilliance I once again caught up with in recent years. Also not fond of reunions that much but everyone's got their guilty pleasures - and this is definitely something I'd love to have seen live. Warren Cann is a genius.
take it you like it then ?
Oh my God!! Such a talent and resistance through the years. Absolutely briliant!!
Beyond brilliant!!!
Im born 1964.
Was a "synth rocker" during the 80´s.
Ultravox was one of my top played groups.
The concert really brings back memories!
Thank you for this consert Ultravox!
// Swedish fan 4 ever
Same
Great to see/hear how Midge maintained his voice !
Ultravox are always one of the best bands to see live....... perfect performances everytime
Been a fan since '76, incredible live synthesis of their work! Thank you boys, for some great music and wonderful memories.
Definitely
Maybe the most underrated band in the history !
No, that would be Echo & The Bunnymen - It's Immaterial, Magma or Talk Talk just for starters.
Indeed... Saw them at The Roundhouse in 1974 and was completely blown away.. Incredible band led by an unbelievably gifted drummer in Christian Vander.
@@EnosEverything The The as well
indeed
most underrated squeeze never got its due
I saw them at the Stone in San Francisco back in 80? 81? on the original Rage tour. They were AMAZING! I absolutely love Ultravox and it's great to see the Return to Eden show online. Ultravox was and still is in a class by itself.
Wow, this looks great. I saw them at the Glasgow Apollo on the Quartet and Lament tours, but have to say after seeing the U-Vox show at the Barrowlands and being so disappointed with them trying to be "pop" I never bothered to see them live again, but hell decades later this would change my mind... and make me feel like a time traveller..
+Alison Matthew I only got to see the Lament and U-Vox tours and agree totally ...this seemed real good though.
Going to busk my electric violin at Edinburgh Fringe in 2020...❤️🌟✌🏿❤️✌🏻
Billy Currie is a big reason I play violin.
This is the right way to perform in a gig showing your work. Absolutely great🥹! We're gonna miss you Chris Cross😢!
I always get blown away by this guys, they are awesome, all their performances are and sound like the studio versions and even better I must say, I was 11 years old when i first heard them on the radio back in '81, still love them !!
I have never heard an old band reunion sound exactly like they did, like this. Excellent.
Pamiętam moje pierwsze zderzenie z muzyką New Romantic :) . Kapela nurtu New Romantic wielka . Jeszcze raz dziękuje za przypomnienie się :)
Dorastałem wraz z nurtem new romantic i pamiętam tamte kapele, tamte klimaty... Tomek Beksiński puszczał nocą te utwory i dzięki niemu poznałem wiele wspaniałych zespołów. Do dziś ich słucham z przyjemnością. Pozdrawiam.
Cudowny zespól...cudowny koncert...utwory wow...można bez końca słuchać...
