Went to Brewster pool with my wife in our boat 7/28, 29 & 30. Fished Friday night after we arrived, Saturday for 6 hours and Sunday morning for 4 hours before heading home to Spokane. Started with pink hoochies, spinners, 4 oz. cannon balls and the flashers/dodgers you use as well. Brined shrimp and 3 different scents in shrimp, tuna and the addicted gel. Tried different amounts of line out. Admittedly, 1 rod already had leaded line so I added 2 oz and used that out the back of the boat. Anywhere from 20-35 on the line counter, 3 poles fishing as slow as action would allow. We vary speeds as we speed up and come back down as well as turn often. You would see fish getting caught on the 100 boat fleet every now and then but nothing hectic. I had noticed the fish numbers over the dam have decreased and all fisherman/women were talking about how it had slowed down. It was dead fishing. Hot, weedy water, smokey, bugs (those little flyies!!!) and the smell of Sh*t on the air from farmers made it interesting. I remember what you said about trusting your electronics. Through Friday and Saturday we had one small Sockeye landed. We had been marking fish from 7-20 ft. but the majority, shallow 7-15 ft. Sunday I switched up things and put on a new flasher bought at the Ace Hardware down the road which was a small triangle (Brad's) Kokanee flasher in Moon Jelly. I tuned it for action and we started fishing with 1 oz of lead and running much shallower. 5 strikes and 2 hook ups that were lost at the boat before landing in the net. I wish I had listened to my instincts sooner and thrown away that silly ass 4 oz ball earlier. The answer ended up being more line, less weight and shallower fishing. Stayed just outside the fleet and putting on smaller Kokanee gear was the answer for more bites. The one fish we caught was on the pole with leaded line. Small Sockeye estimated at 2 lbs. If my math is correct between Hotel, gas, food and gear expense that was a very tasty $736.00 per lb. Sockeye. Thats why they call it fishing and not catching!! Hoping to do better at the end of September when we go to Garibaldi for the Quadfecta in Tillamook Bay. Chinook, Clams, Crabs and Rockfish. Fish On!!
Great videos! I am very interested in adding a powered propulsion system to my Hobie PA14/360. I just don’t know where to start and don’t want to make costly mistakes. I’m hoping you can give me some direction. Thank you for posting the fantastic content. Keep up the good work! 👍
Depends on what you want out of your motor. Do you just want thrust to get from point to point or are you looking for more advanced features like cruise control or spot lock?
@@spiltmilt Thanks for the reply. Ultimately I would like all of it…however I do enjoy the exercise from the pedal drive 😂 so I am mainly interested in spot lock and some trolling. I live in SE Idaho and around here I mainly fish shorelines for Smallmouth but would love to troll for some walleye with both cranks and harnesses. I would also like to have the ability to fish the Columbia and Snake for Sturgeon without anchoring if that’s a possibility. Cost isn’t really an issue…I just am so overwhelmed and you definitely know what’s going on with all of these things.
All you need to do is get a One Objection mount for your Pro Angler and throw a MotorGuide Xi3 kayak motor on the bow and it will give you all those things
Good luck buddy! I’ll be there sat and Sunday. I’ve been the manager at baker hatchery for the last 5 years and I’m glad my fish returning are exploding in numbers this season!
@@randymason9292I would love to see it explode even more for a better river fishery and an even better lake fishery. Is there a reason the goal isn’t 100k plus return?
That is the goal of the program. 100k to return annually. An amazing river fishery, an amazing baker lake fishery, and then also have a good tribal fishery that is sustainable since we are loading the hatchery up beforehand. All parties happy with fish.
Been a long time watcher, since about 10k subs. It’s a really good fishery, glad to have you over to the wet side if you could show me more about walleyes, my true fishing passion
What I absolutely love about your videos is that I'm down here in Tri-Cities fishing almost the same exact water at the same time for the same fish. So, thank you! Very helpful! The Salmon nuts down here anchor for them, but only a few people seem to have it dialed in.
How do you think the Sockeye numbers will be compared to last year when the Sockeyes were at near records at Brewster Pool. You mentioned they were bigger than normal this year. Why do you think that is? Less fish, more food to go around? How long will Brewster Pool provide good fishing. We drove up from Central California last year later in July during that super hot spell 106-110 degrees (too hot!)
Obviously they are lower because this is not a record year. They are probably bigger because of lower fish densities and/or better ocean conditions. Fish is good here typically thru mid to late August but fish quality declines by Aug 10.
I saw your video of winter walleye fishing in Lake Roosevelt. How is it for walleyes this time of year and do you prefer it to Banks Lake or fishing the Columbia in the Tri-cities area?@@spiltmilt

It’s crazy to me how consistent that snack bite is on all your videos. Maybe the kokes smell good in the air… love the videos thanks for educating all of us on the elusive Kokanee. It’s helped the learning curve a ton. I’m headed out to Strawberry this weekend to hopefully catch a few but the bite down here in Utah has been weird this year with snowpack and weather.
I dream of coming up there to catch some sockeye salmon or king salmon. Just the name of the fish sounds super tasty. So nice to see that there are super nice fishermen out there looking out for each other.
Have you ever fished sockeye in the tri-city area? Seems like everyone is anchoring up down here, but from your videos it looks like trolling is the way to go. Any thoughts?
I don’t like the Seattle style traffic on the water there, too stressful. I go fishing to relax. When I’ve gone there in the past it was over 100 degrees. I saw you were wearing sandals. Didn’t the tops of your feet burn?
I’ve been watching a lot of trolling videos. Awesome info. Keep it up. Question, what kind of main line/ lb test are you using for salmon trolling set?
Nice video! Never seen sockeye caught on those rigs before, up here in Alaska we catch them in the the rivers on flies
Yeah flossing seems to be the preferred technique in Alaska river systems. Here we plunk small spin-n-glos with shrimp on river systems and do well
Loved the video. Thanks! Was curious what line and lbs test you use for main line?
50 lb braid Tuff line
I was born in Brewster so, at age 69, I'm headed back there in August to fish. Wish me luck. Great vid.

I just hung up on bottom today trolling up the Okanagan River. Sadly It broke at my bumper. 😢
I guess I got to pay more attention to my lines.
I remember seeing you out there, we were in the camo boat!
Have you caught any kings this year? Been fishing out by entiat with no success haha

Lol,…”snack bite”,… never fails!!!😊
I went out to lake sawyer last weekend and caught one kokanee 10 trout
Great video and tips. We’re you using any bait on the hooks, looked like shrimp at the start of the video, but couldn’t make out?
Yes cured coon shrimp
I'm hitting baker on sunday-monday. This got me even more excited.

Aside from the crowds the scenery and temperatures at Baker seem a lot better than Brewster.

Have you ever fished the Baker Lake Sockeye? Went yesterday on the opener it was epic everybody was catching fish, it was awesome!
I haven’t. It’s a long drive and hard to justify when I have the exact same fish literally in my backyard. It’s a beautiful lake though
Looks like a blast! I'll be there bright and early Thursday!
I was just at Chelan Falls and got some Chinooks! Initially went to Wanapum but the wind was crazy, so we moved up north and had some luck.
We had good results on macs wobbler baits in yellow n green. Threw one on by chance the quickly switched all the rods over.
Never heard of a Mack's Wobbler?
Sorry Wiggle hoochie.

This one paulinapeaktackle.com/shop/ols/products/moon-jelly-spinner
Doo you ever fish the Brewster Pool or Lake Pateros for walleyes? If so how does it compare to Lake Roosevelt or Banks Lake?
Yes and it comparatively sucks. 😂 not sure why they aren’t there in numbers but they just aren’t. If you do find one it will be large

Everywhere is good this time of year. Roosie is best for numbers and Umatilla for size
Thanks for that. Hopefully, I'll see you out on the water@@spiltmilt
Planning on fishing here soon. In terms of lead I’m going to be running 4 oz and 5oz at 25 and 30 on the counter. Would you recommend those numbers?
Yes that sounds about right
Jelly! Drive by on the 5th, but didn’t have any gear on me. What rod and reel do you use for salmon trolling?
Rods = Shimano Trevala 7' L amzn.to/2UY80IB
Reels = Coldwater Low Pro amzn.to/3D8fMC8 or Tekota 300LCamzn.to/46EO6Ci

Bought some spinners from your links. Are you using the 10lb test that came with them? Or what lb test do you recommend? Thanks for sharing!
No I retie onto 20 lb line
On the turn
Nice job buddy
What do think of a size 2 Matzuo for Kokanee?
Sickle hooks?
@@spiltmilt Yup

I've not but I know anchoring is more popular down there although lots of folks troll below the dams
Just in time for another cool adventure!
I don’t like the Seattle style traffic on the water there, too stressful. I go fishing to relax. When I’ve gone there in the past it was over 100 degrees. I saw you were wearing sandals. Didn’t the tops of your feet burn?
Snack bite, sandwich bite, cigarette bite (other people) and most especially the pee bite.
The glorious pee triple
Are you tipping your spinners with coon shrimp?
Yes
I’ve been watching a lot of trolling videos. Awesome info. Keep it up. Question, what kind of main line/ lb test are you using for salmon trolling set?
Snack bites are the best 😎
They never let you eat! 😊😂
Hi Tyler, how many of those looney coons do you use on average per day at Brewster?
10-15
@@spiltmilt thanks! Is there about 75 shrimp in the 16 oz?
I have no idea. Depends on the size of the shrimp. If you shoot Jim at Loonie Coonies a message he’ll get back to you quick I’m sure
Hey do you know if I can plunk from the from the bank and have any success
It might be possible in place below Wells Dam
Planning on being out there begining of August, hopefully the fish are still thick
Off topic but ever try a standup bar or assist?
Im too fat and old to be comfortable standing without a little prop up!
Never have had the need for one.
👍 👍
What size are those spinner blades?
Not sure maybe 1's
We’re any of the boats around you catching as well? It would be funny to loan you a net and then get skunked…
Many people were catching
Haha you didn’t need a net!
Do You use any bait or scents on the dodger or spinner?
No
Thanks so much for these videos.
@@spiltmilt looked like coon shrimp though?
Are those the same fish that go to lake Wenatchee?
no these fish are bound for canada
I've been watching you for a while it was good to finally see ya in action. Way to put in the work out there.
