    Thanks again for a unbiased review. I have been using XPlane since version 10. It’s a mature product. I also have the whole of the U.K. in True Earth. This is updated fairly regularly.
    The biggest advantage , apart from the flight dynamics, are the vast choice of aircraft. From the heavy to the ultralight. All of mine are the free ones. I have gliders, WW1 , WW2 ultra lights, and a collection of fast jets lots of biplanes etc. I have the free version of the Euro Fighter. The cockpit instruments are generic, but everything else works. And the weapons can be fired as well. There is a payed for version with all systems working, including hover. My frame rate is around 65 fps. It’s on a M.2 NVME drive , as is the Microsoft one.
    I also have MSFS 2020. It’s difficult to compare. One is a mature product, one is not. There is not the choice of aircraft yet in MS 2020 especially freeware ones.. Fast jets are now supported, no gliders yet. Maybe not until 2022 . Way to long. The graphics on MS 2020 can be quite good. The weather engine is improving. And it does cover the entire globe, if that’s what you want. The flight dynamics are better in XPlane. And the controls are very easy to set up ,as you saw in the video.It’s your choice, or you could have both . There is I believe a demo version of XPlane. Or there used to be. You will only get the default generic scenery.

      @@Huddison Thanks for the reply and comment, and yes there is a demo version, it’s also been updated. And the Multi Panel works as well with no additional drivers for XPlane. I forgot to mention that it also runs on Linux, Apple OS , and Windows . For some reason Microsoft chose not to use the new Vulkan. graphics engine. Very basically it pre loads the graphics depending on which direction you are heading. This stops or reduces the number of trees, buildings etc which pop up in the distance , makes it a lot smoother . Microsoft may update the graphics engine at some time this year. I think it’s on the development map somewhere.

    I've been an FSX fan since it was released but when I decided to upgrade to a 64bit simulator I decided to go with Prepar3D v4 because my existing hardware and and quite a few of my add-ons would work with it. I upgraded only weeks before the announcement was made that Microsoft were going to make a new simulator. I now have MSFS 2020 and absolutely love it. It's almost (but not quite) put me off Prepar3D. New Zealand, where I'm from, usually misses out on quality default scenery because we are at the ends of the earth and no-one flies here. Indeed, you'd be surprised (or maybe not), at how many people don't know where we are. MSFS 2020 knows where we are and the default scenery is magnificent. Yes there are issues with it but compared to most default sceneries it is superb. MSFS 2020, by Microsoft's own admission, is an early release project. It will be years before everything will be up and running as it should. Helicopters, proper auto pilot, gliders, variety and numbers of 3rd party input. All of us currently flying in MSFS 2020 are in fact beta testers even though that of course is not official. With a huge software package like this though, this is the best way to keep testing going, by millions of testers, AND get some money back on the project at the same time. So, by all means, buy Prepar3D or XPlane to fly with really good planes, good scenery, stability and learn how to control an aircraft. BUT buy MSFS 2020 as well to see where simulating is going, see the quality that is just around the corner and really explore the world.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  3 года назад +1

      Well said: FS2020 is indeed in it's early release phase; it can really (hopefully) only improve from this point onwards.
      As I said in this video, I am always amazed & exhilarated whenever I play FS2020 - no other simulator (flat screen at least) proffers me that same experience!

    Controls: XP11
    Sounds: Both good
    Graphics: Maybe it's not a popular opinion, but my preference goes to X-Plane 11 because it's consistent in quality everywhere! MSFS is very oversharpened and stuff..
    Easy of use: XP11 hands down
    I was expecting a lot from MSFS, but it really didn't do the job for me. I'll stay with XP11. Also the loading is terrible with MSFS.

      @Huddison  3 года назад

      I agree with some of your points, but IMO, MSFS has the better graphics of the 2 - for now..

    • @acurisur
      @acurisur 3 года назад

      X Plane 11 isn't consistent in quality everywhere, my local airport is a grass strip. In MSFS the airport is there in complete detail, by default. X Plane has massive areas of the world with very little detail, which has to be filled in by the user with either paid scenery or free scenery which takes up storage space.
      Your point about MSFS being "oversharpened" is down to your graphic settings, not the sim.

  • @sypharorigin
    @sypharorigin 3 года назад +1

    Great video! Our opinions differ alot however because your initial thought to how the Cessna felt on the runway is somewhat different to mine because in my opinion the Cessna in X-Plane feels more like a "standstill" simulator than real life while the one in FS2020 feels more like real life and less like that simulator. I personally use both sims and X-Plane in my opinion wins when it comes down to most of the IFR, but FS2020 just feels so much more alive even when just starting the engine; especially in the single props. According to a friend of mine who's flying the big wings, but goes back to props sometimes when free, "X-Plane feels a bit like you're on ice while in FS2020 you can feel the friction of the air" and to be honest it describes it a bit like how I feel. I believe that FS2020 has a long way to go, but I'm very eager to see what X-Plane 12 can achieve once it's out. :)

    • @Huddison

    I have both MSFS2020 & X-Plane 11. Most of the time I opt to fly in X-Plane because it feels so much more like flying to me - and things just work.
    For XP11 sceneries I use Ortho4XP scenery generator to create my own - based on satellite imagery and open street maps, combined with terrain data from AI-Pilot.
    This is a good and low-cost solution - only cost is time & hard-drive space.

    Hi @Huddison !
    I know this is a slightly older video. Not sure you'll see this comment..
    If you you do, please read to the end.. :-)
    I'm the kind of guy that used to fly MSFS all the way back from the 80's and it was the best.
    Then, I went full scale, and got my pilot license.
    Now I'm back to looking at sims... Honestly, I'm back because of the "Hype" of MSFS 2020.
    I have the Honeycomb Alpha yolk, and the Bravo throttle quadrant is due to arrive sometime in Feb 2021.
    That said, I now have MSFS 2020 Premium Deluxe.
    I've seen, and even experienced some of the downfalls...
    It's made me think of getting X-Plane 11 just to have a variation.
    My question(s) truly is/are:
    1) Is X-plane without any pay ware worth it?
    2) I hear some flight models are still better in X-Plane... Do you think MSFS will catch up?
    I guess I'm thinking it's always good to have multiple sources now that I'm back to sim, when I can't be flying for real...
    I'd be happy to have both sims, but.....
    Is it worth it to have both? I hear X-Plane might require a lot more financial expenditure to get true VFR scenery.
    I guess the next question... You answered a ton in this video, but you mentioned add-ons..
    How many add-ons would I need above the base price?
    Can I get my local NE USA area only?
    Are the flight models that much better in XP than in MSFS?
    I know it's a lot.. But, I am.... Umm...
    Curious... :-)

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  3 года назад

      Thanks for such a great comment and questions.
      In regards to Q 1): X-plane add-ons are pretty much always on sale at one time or another; it would be a pity not to buy add-ons for it (IMO).
      The default scenery has apparently improved with the latest incarnation - in comparison to previous X-Plane versions, but the Sim simply looks quite stunning with a good scenery add-on package (the True Earth Packages in particular!) .
      In regards to Q 2): X-Plane has been around for a fair few years now, so it has been continually improved upon, updated and refined - this really shows in the aircraft modelling and handling.
      MSFS in comparison, is obviously much newer, but the developers continually tweak and patch the Sim. With the latest refinements to sensitivities, I feel the aircraft handling is rapidly catching up to that of X-plane. This will all be down to personal taste and preference, of course, but virtual pilots and real pilots alike, each have their own preferences with both simulators.
      If you plan on buying a lot of add-on scenery packages with X-Plane, I would advise that you buy a large enough SSD drive (preferably a M.2 Drive), to accommodate all these scenery packages (you can put these packages on a normal Hard-drive, but performance will invariably suffer taking this route).
      I personally only currently have one add-on package for X-Plane (the one you see in this very video) and I have found that it offers me many hours of exploration and fun - I do intend to buy more add-on scenery packages in the future & I will look to take advantage of sales whenever possible.
      I hope all this will/has helped in your decision in buying your new Flight Simulator :)

    I own both but have, so far, struggled to get into MSFS. Maybe in time, but I find X Plane feels very realistic. For long time simmers it can take a while to change, as I have fantastic aircraft in X Plane, the UK covered with Orbx (and the airports which are created by the users is a great feature), the IFR works properly and with vulcan I get amazing framerates. Plus in VR it's very well implemented. In time (if Microsoft give it time), MSFS will get there, the streaming scenery is great but with a bit of effort you can use free ortho in XP.
    Fantastic having so many quality sims to choose from though.

      I played fsx for 14 years from the time I was old enough for flight Sims till msfs2020 came out. I did hesitated switching thinking it was more of a mission based game. But within a week I switched and so glad I did. I played with setting to get it to how I liked it. Played around and figured.out how things worked within the sim and fell in love. Physics are way better then fsx amd honestly I don't find that much difference in xplane in handling xplane yes alot better then some aircraft insfs2020 but very little difference in other aircraft. Cessna a320fbw and some of the purchase aircraft dc6 by pmdg and the junkers. I use simbrief plan flight routes navigraph and can see my position on the navigraph app from anywhere I am even not home. Iuse vatsim and I get alot of realism amd enjoyment everytime. Xplane 12 doesn't even make that much of a jump graphically. Why spend so much money on add-ons scenery so dumb. At this point msfs2020 is the go to even after only being out just over a year.

    I have both X-Plane 11 and MSFS 2020 and there’s pros and cons with each sim. If you want stunning eye candy visuals and a immersive VR experience, MSFS wins hands down. X-Plane gives you better flight dynamics but there’s a steeper learning curve when flying the outstanding pay ware General Aviation aircraft or Airline Heavy’s such as Flight Factors Airbus fleet or IXEG’s fleet of Boeing Aircraft. My biggest disappointment with X-Plane has been the lack of urgency of pay ware developers to update their aircraft to work with the new X-Plane Vulkan platform. Given the appeal of the MSFS 2020, my fear is that the developers that created products for X-Plane will abandon their support and focus their new product roll-outs solely for MSFS 2020.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  3 года назад

      I hope your fears don't become realised, that would be a huge shame for such a great sim like X-Plane.
      My feeling is that there is still a huge fan base for X-Plane 11 in the Flight Sim community - so I do think that products will continue to be supported.
      I also think that the developers of X-Plane will improve the visual fidelity of the sim, to compete with FS2020 visuals; that would be an amazing time indeed!

    $49 for one small area of the world for add on scenery. How can you add that in and then compare with FS2020? It would cost hundreds of dollars to get it up to the scenery level of MSFS 2020. X Plane has been around for decades. MSFS around 6 months.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  3 года назад

      That's a valid point: you have to go considerable expense to get X-Plane 11 to look any where near as good as MSFS 2020.

      Precisely, MSFS wins in the eye-candy department and in no others. Even then, the scenery argument only applies to autogen and such, not ground textures. These textures can be generated for free and to a much higher standard than the bing equivalents in MSFS through the use of Ortho tools.

    Xplane is WAY more realistic (I have my pilot license…)… you really have to pilot your plane like you would in real life. And there is no performance drop in VR… amazing. I fly for the pleasure of feeling flying an actual plane… over poor sceneries (if you don’t have add-ons…).
    MSFS is beautiful out of the box… but whatever I do… it is a video game… and the performance in VR is crap… and it crashes to desktop very often… . I want to love it… but can’t… the sceneries are amazing on my screen… but I have google earth… and the planes have no realistic reactions… and when I switch to VR, it is so jerky… unusable.
    If you are a pilot… xplane is satisfying in VR… you can practice and really train.
    If you have standard screens and only want fun and beautiful landscapes… MSFS is the way to go.
