You hit the nail on the head. I use to hate the ee vowel. Now , I make it the kernel of my voice. If it's ringing everything is right with the world.
"Why is the magic EE so awesome? *slams hand on piano* Because it totally is." Justin Stoney 2014
(I totally didn't make that into a meme I promise, *hides the meme in her computer files*)
LOL. -NYVC
5:33 when you hear EXACTLY what you've been doing. Ee's and I can be friends, we just gotta learn to love one another.
As Bob Marley says, "Let's get together and it will be alright." -NYVC
For real ! I’m like oh that’s a recording of meeee lol
If you like ee say cheeeese
My favorite color is gween. It seems to also be a great sound to sing with. It helps with balancing compression and air flow and that's what I need. Thanks Justin!
So glad it helped you TG! Awesome work! -NYVC
Wow, feels like I finally can sing this vowel. Struggled so much with it! Thanks!
Amazing! Great work, Joachim! -NYVC
I muted the sound and that video's still awesome!!
HA! Love this comment!
LOL
Subscribed. Love the engagement between the teacher and us watchers. Almost seems like we're actually sitting there with him.
Yes, Justin has that gift, doesn't he. His downloadable lessons are like that as well. voicelessonstotheworld.com/page/vocal_course -NYVC

More awesome information!
These videos are so awesome. I feel like I've made huge jumps just by applying this information to my practice sessions.
Hi Justin, A little late, but I want to congratulate you on your 50th episode! I have been searching for good online sources of voice info for my daughter who is an avid musician (self-taught guitar, mandolin, piano, ukelele). I knew I found the right source when I saw your episode 42, larnyx, "making piece between classical and rock." Please keep it up. I have seen other video presenters like you grow from thousands of hits into 10s and 100s of thousands of views; and I know this effort will pay off for you while helping others.
This is coming a few years late, but did you know about Justin's vocal training course: voicelessonstotheworld.com/page/vocal_course It's fabulous
This saved my life thank you so much!!
You always help me so much. Thanks for being on youtube
Thank you! I really connected with you in this lesson. I stumbled upon you by typing in "voice lessons" and this is so great. I just decided this year I would really pursue my passion to sing and though I can't afford to take them right now, what you are providing is just as great. This is the first video of yours I saw. I love it. - Victoria
FANTASTIC LESSON!
you're the best of vocal coach, thank you so much !
We're glad this helped you Perse! -NYVC
just what I needed. thank you so much
Very, very helpful! Thank you.
Thank you, Justin! Your lessons have been a great help
Thank YOU Carrie! :D -NYVC
Totally agree with the "ee" vowel creating a brighter and ringing sound in singing especially when you add vibrato. Sounds really beautiful. Other singers don't sound too good in other vowels but when they sing the "ee", they sound magical.
You watch this guy too? He helps my vocals so much
Say cheeeese
Subbed in a moment .... thanks a million
Thank you Justin. Well tought
🎶✨
Outstanding!
WOW! Wonderful!
THANK YOU. So much more practice to come, but this is SOO helpful!
That's great news CPIII! We're hoping you keep practicing! - NYVC
Gweenius!
8 years later still helpful ! I'll be changing all my song lyrics to "gween".
Wow! The Gween really helped me figure out where best to ‘place’ this tricky vowel and I can instantly feel the difference when I transfer that place to another word with the ee vowel. Thank you for your help and work!!
Amazing work, Lenny! -NYVC
I’m only halfway through this video and I stopped to practice tounge placement and it was great! I’m singing a song in a new higher range for me , and I was struggling singing “I sing because I’m free” because I just could NOT a hit that E5. While saying the word free. I’m going to practice gween.
I just figured this out yesterday after mimicking a singer that I was listening to live. That's what gives the buzz Im missing in my voice. This is part of my routine now.
Nice! We're so glad this helped you! The next episode that could be helpful to you is Ep. 117 “Singing Vowels & Formants”. Keep up the amazing work! -NYVC
Thankyou! Since I've been serious about my singing I've tried not to be too hard on myself. I found that as I progress the one thing I do perfectly (to my surprise) is the Eee vowel. You have really encouraged me with this video that I'm going in the right direction and to just be PATIENT with my other vowels. Oh yes and the Eee vowel great for practicing messa de voce.Thx again.
Wow. GREAT work I! We’re so glad this encouraged you! Keep singing. -NYVC
you very great teacher and you did help me a lot thx
Awesome video as usual!
Thank you so much Fabio! :D -NYVC

Amazing work! Justin is so glad you enjoy VLTTW and is wishing you well this holiday season! Stay tuned for more :)
Awesome video thanks!!
Thank YOU! So glad you liked it! -NYVC
Thank you so much for explaining this. I can't try it right now because everyone is sleep. In March, I have to sing " We are the Champions " and I'm catching hell on that high "we", not to mention the OO's on through and loose. Do you have a video on OO's as well?
Thanx a lot sir....💐💐💐💐
This is what I was looking for
Very helpful! Thanks so much!
Yay! 😸 -NYVC
It's a very useful lesson!
Awesome! So glad this helped you, Pj! -NYVC

" if you have the magic EE right! Things seems to go right for the voice and!!! The universe!"
Interesting!
😋 -NYVC
6:39 "GWEEN" 5-3-4-2-1 Exercise
Great video! It'd be great if you could make a series of videos like this but for all letters (consonants and vowels), and word examples. My issue is since I was never taught the proper way to pronounce letters - I just came up with my own mimicked way of doing it and it's caused SO much tension when singing/speaking. Ironically, no one teaches the proper way to set up your mouth/tongue for tension-free pronunciation.
Love you sir
💙 -NYVC
I love that boy❤
Thank you! 👍
Thank you for watching Denis! -NYVC
Agree it is the best vowel to sing on
EE's are super nice 😎 -NYVC
And nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was. Is ever gonna gween meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee downnnnnn!
"...Never gonna gween you up, never gonna goog you down, never gonna mum around, and brrrrr you!" (you got Liprolled.) :P
JT McAwesome-Face
* singing* if I ______ were king, of the for--- estttttt______
Let your soul take you where you long to BEEEEEEEEEEEE
Thank you for the magic "EE" As you promised it is truly magical.
Before I have started to watching your videos my highest note was c4 with pushing of course.
And now I am able to hit E4 even F#4 in my good days.
I"m 17.my question is :When I grow up Might I be able to hit higher (A4,B4)? With your awesome support and my passion :)
Thank YOU for your incredible support for Justin and VLTTW! As we like to say here at NYVC, practice makes permanent. Justin encourages all of his students to practice everyday because singing is a process, and to answer your question, yes! The female vocal range is capable of increasing with development and use of healthy vocal technique. So if the note doesn't come tomorrow, don't fret or try to push it! Embrace your unique sound and the notes will come. Keep up the amazing work, from NYVC!
U are magical 🙂
wow
Man, this video brings me from the dark void of my voice.
I can sing about 3 octaves from C below middle C but 'EE' often kills those higher notes lol. I'm trying to work more on vowels because I CAN sing a nice range but vowels can be a killer! This really helped!
Vowels can be a challenge! So great that you're working hard at them! -NYVC
I love ariana grande song "thinking bout you" but im struggling when im singing the "memory" part (the lyrics) "but altleast i have the memoryyyyyyyyy" im happy i found this video 💖😊👍
Happy to have you in our community Jacob! Keep up the great work! - NYVC
I can't sing the 'dream' or 'sing' in the song Dream On by Aerosmith because of the EE and I vowels. I can sing it properly on the high head voice part at the end, just not in the mid range, at the G#5. I've tried what you said, and gotten no results. This note falls into my mix, and I don't know how to form that vowel in my mixed voice. Please help me.
I wonder why there are few views with these great videos... Or maybe this just proves that there are few singers!?
I am here now because I want to sing " Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing" part from Who You Are by Jessie J. Thanks for this video. I have to apply this.
Woo Hoo! Super cool, Novi! We believe in you! Keep up the great work! -NYVC
Yes, I will! 💪💪💪
THe Gween Gween Grass of Home..thanks for an important tip...Voice coach, Brett Manning, calls it the miss piggy squeak
when pronouncing the sound of I (ee)...I as in Martinelli...
Your voice around D4 is so effortless! I need to squeeze or shout or falsetto, EE or not -_-'
I was once exposed to the premise that Vowels are the SOULS( personality) of the Words and the Consonants are their Bodies.
That's beautiful!! Thank you for sharing that! -NYVC
E vowel must controlled to normal without strain to Rought to Soft, when u use it in chorus or bridge , Some part at Wide Mouth to Med to Small , but strugling on Power push, sometimes it comes with EI E.H, H.E or GHE , HWE, But a must need of a lot of Rehersals to get the right Placement of sound
Hi Leo! We believe in you! If you have any questions you can send them to Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com! -NYVC
Hi there! I was wondering if you could answer me this...let's say you plugged your nose when you sing in your head voice. Will your voice sound any different?
Hello I have a question. I'm training singing "Rolling in the deep". Unfortunately, when it comes to the "Deep" word it sounds and feels too strained...I tried what you've explained in this video, but I still don't reach the perfect "ee" sound ( bright, clear, not strained). I could do it in falsetto but I want to belt that note out. If you could take a moment to give me some advices for this particular song and verse.
Hi Justin, great video. I have always found ee the easiest vowel to sing and I can sing pretty high with it. The problem is that I struggle when I sing actual words especially in mixed voice. This makes me strain a bit and my throat starts hurting. However if I sing the same tune on the ee vowel everything is dead easy. What should I do? What exercise would you suggest me? Thank you
Hi Mario! Check out Episode 8 “Hard Consonants”. This might help you! You can also send your question to Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com! -NYVC
When I sing EE in songs my voice want to crack and I allow it I'm great friend to my voice and I work with mix voice
Wow! We love that you are great friends with your voice. This is phenomenal work Agrita! -NYVC
Hey i have a question ?
when i sing "ee" vowel my teeth open just a little bit.
Should i open my mouth more when saying "gween". If yes then can i put one finger on mouth and practice "gween" exercise because it helps me to open my mouth.
The E vowel is very important
You remind me of Jonathan Groff.
g는 혀를 제 위치에 두고
w는 입이 벌어지는걸 막아주고
n은 소리의 두성구 진입을 돕고
ee는 성대접촉을 돕고 턱과 혀의 안정화를 돕는다 06:50
Thank you for these wonderful notes, 김인교! -NYVC
Watching you takes me away from the sadness that N.Y. is having now. No one has the ability but you. Justin Stoney
Wow! Justin appreciates your kind words! 🙏🏼 -NYVC
My city 😍
Woo! So cool! -NYVC
Justin are you familiar with operatic repertory? I’m a baritone starting out in operatic training and I’m struggling with the “ee” (pronounced “ay” in English” in the French word “pensee” in Avant de quitter ces lieux. It’s an F4 in the D flat version of the song. I can hit an A flat 4 rather easily and sometimes an A4 so I’m not sure if this is an “ee” vowel modification situation. Thanks!
Hi Philbert! You can send this question in to Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com! Or maybe episode 96 will help you! -NYVC
New York Vocal Coaching Thank you!
Rachel's English You guys should make a video together, a good teacher with a great opera singer. =)
Thank you for this video! Even though Audra McDonald is phenomenal singer, watching her pronounce the last word in "Climb every mountain" was just plain weird. "Til you find your...Dram...".
Lol! Yeah :) -NYVC
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching Omg a reply from Justin Stoney - I'm dead. ⚰️
What about vocal modification as you ascend higher through the natural break? I thought it was recommended to change the ee sound to ih (as in it).
Vowel modification is good! You should check out Episode 84 "Vocal Embouchure - The Many Faces Of Singing"! -NYVC
Thank you so much for your reply. I'll check that out.
I can sing right on pitch or slightly sharp on the ee vowel. My ah vowel, especially in my chest register often goes flat. I have worked on hearing it sharper than I used to. That is to say, I shoot for higher. Any suggestions?
The ee vowel by nature is brighter, and the ah is darker. That could be the issue rather than being sharp or flat. -NYVC
Right. The ee vowel is definitely brighter than the ah vowel. However, if I verify the pitch on a tuner or a program, I see the pitch is actually a little flat in my chest range unless I try to sing it sharper.
Omg you are gangsta ❤❤
i always get lost about my clear EE everytime i use distorted voice in singing both together
Aha! Keep at it Mik! -NYVC
6:16 exercise
Thanks D5! You rock! -NYVC
OK! Magical EE..😊😁😊
Go Laurel! Make some magic! - NYVC
I have troubles in the "ee" vowel in the song Desperado. "Dont you feeet get cold in the winter time"
Hi Thiago! You can send your questions to Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com! -NYVC
