As soon as I saw the title of this video I thought to myself, "Nightcrawler/White House breach" must be No. 1. Imagine my shock and horror to find that it was not even mentioned!! I remember seeing this scene for the first time on the big screen - It sent chills down my spine and the hairs on my arms stood up - It was just amazing to watch!
Children of Men’s opening is the very reason I love films. It’s especially effective when you see it with zero context of what the movie is about (like I did when I saw it as a teen). I remember just feeling so overwhelmed with confusion and awe. And the fact that it’s all one shot. Absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. ❤️
I can still see it today. The opening crawl has faded into the stars and we pan down to the space above Tatooine. The _Tantive IV,_ a CR90 Corvette, enters, firing at something. That something is Imperial Star Destroyer _Devastator,_ which fills the screen as it hotly pursues its target. Imagine the shocked reactions from audiences in 1977, including my then-four-year-old father.
I was at college and we decided, after a pie and a pint, to take the Friday afternoon off and go and see star wars. We were just in time and I had a seat on the front row in front of a large cinema screen, bigger than the side of a house. The first scene was absolutely mind blowing. Never been as good.
I came STRAIGT TO THE COMMENTS before watching the video just to see if the video was worth watching. The fact Deadpool is on this list BUT BLADE KILLING VAMPIRES IN BLADE 1 is not on the list is just BLASPHEMOUS!
You forgot Blade Runner. The mesmerising, sweeping visuals, the incredible Vangelis score and the tense noir-fuelled opening scene. Basically provided the cinematic template for the entire cyberpunk genre.
The first dream in Inception is an amazing way for Nolan to kickstart the plot but also to explain a lot of the rules of dreams to the viewers without explicitly telling them
the scene with the older Ryan at the cemetery brought down the opening a bit. The opening would have been more effective if it had started with the DDay sequence.
I know, right? It was an awesome tune for the club scene at the time and I even bought the album because of it!! I always bumped it in my car at the time.
What a difficult task choosing 30 scenes! These were great and there are 100+ that are also worthy. This list begs to have parts 2,3, and 4 with more selections.
Nobody remembers Swordfish? With the John Travolta explodes a bank with an unfortunate extra? **side note also one of the best soundtracks ever thanks to Paul Olkenfold
I've not seen Touch Of Evil, Sunset Boulevard and Goldeneye. My top 10 The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Matrix, The Dark Knight, Jaws, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Trainspotting, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan.
Wrong Bond film. The ski chase into BASE jump with Union Jack parachute into, ‘no body does it better’ in The Spy Who Loved Me, you can’t beat that. Also, Star Wars Episode IV. That’s No.1 all the way!
I would HAVE to include the opening car ride from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...."We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the dessert....when the drugs began to take hold!"
The movie may not be one of Scorsese's best, but the opening scene to Gangs of New York is undeniably riveting...the fife music used from Otha Turner to introduce the two sides sets it off.
X2 and Mission Impossible III were painful missing entries on this list. In my opinion, the Jurassic Park entry didn't deserve its place. When zi saw the movie in theaters, I was not bored or excited by that scene. It was just there.
My favorite opening sequence, about 10 min long, was to Slumdpg Millionaire. Reason: I remember thinking at the time, that after that scene, I was in the hands of a master filmmaker, and that scene I thought it would win best picture oscar, even though id only seen that one scene. And it did!
You’ve gone with one Spaghetti western opening, (the best one I agree), I also like For a Few Dollars More. I saw the Hateful Eight at the Odeon Leicester Square in the proper film format and the opening really felt like the start of an experience. Not sure it made as much sense elsewhere though!
How about the opening scene for From Dusk til Dawn with George Clooney & Quentin Tarantino? Or the opening parkour scene in the James Bond movie Casino Royale?
Before GoldenEye, there was The Spy Who L:oved Me's opening scene with Bond ambushed on a remote snowy cliff. When he went over the edge, there was a collective gasp from the audience as we watch him plunging to his death. And a huge cheer when his Union Jack parachute opened.
Honestly, Se7en should have made the list because the introduction of Mills and Somerset going into the disturbing yet amazing opening credits backed with Nine Inch Nails. Damn, it upsets me that its not on the list.
Citizen Kane, slowly moving closer to the window of a dying man but showing his wealth from the size of his grounds. One False Move, a violent and disturbing attack that has you on your nerves for the rest of the movie. Tampopo, a lesson on how to eat food in the cinema.
Number 2 behind "Raiders of the lost ark" belongs to the opening scene in the original "Star Wars" in 1977. You can't imagine how the first ten minutes kicked into the brains of the audience since then. This was stuff never seen before.
A decent list. I agree with the fact that Star Wars should have made the list. Another epic opening scene is Infinite. Yeah, It’s a car chase but so much more. And an excellent set up for the rest of the film.
1. Bonsera offer request to Vito Corleone 2. Travis Bickle emerging driving down the streets of new york 3. Hans Landa arrival at a farmhouse 4. Anton Chigurh's arrest 5. Joker's introduction The Dark Knight
Honorable mentions: Intouchables (2011), City of God (2002), The Lion King (1994), Saturday Night Fever (1977), La La Land (2016), Golden Eye more than Casino Royale (2006)?, Spider-man Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Slumdog Millionaire, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), Spider-man (2002) and Space Jam (1996).

Dawn of the Dead 2004

Rocky III
A Nightmare On Elm Street

Even just the first 30 seconds of Star Wars. Those giant spaceships flying by, shooting lasers at each other changed movie making forever.
Missed opportunity to not put Revenge of The Sith's opening on here tho.
Yes it did it was awesome
I'm surprised you didn't include Star Wars episode IV. One of the best opening scenes !
This is iconic. It revolutionized the movie opening and most on the list would not be there without it.
I don't like to watch scary movies to bloody and scary the last scary movie i saw was it in 06 07 with my brother
Yeah, the opening that probably changed the movie industry from that point forward.
The opening screen crawl and the John Williams soundtrack...it doesn't get any better.
Watchmen... opening credits scene is absolutely majestic.
1000%
The second X Men movie opener was amazing! I am surprised it wasn’t on the list

I’m so happy to see the bank robbery scene from The Dark Knight made it to the list. A badass scene from a badass movie.

As much as I LOVE The Dark Knight, WatchMojo kinda has a hard on over it. Not surprised to see it here.
@@Reaperguy67Deadpool and Wolverine is the best movie of 2024, also I'm first.
@@Issac.Valentine you weren't even first. When it comes to the Deadpool movies. The first one is funny
You left off the first Star Wars (1976). At that time NO ONE had ever seen anything like that. From the music to the first battle, it was epic.
Star Wars Episode IV came out in 1977
While I appreciate you including Deadpool and Wolverine, what about the 1st X-Men movie. That opening scene with Magneto as a child is epic!
Children of Men’s opening is the very reason I love films. It’s especially effective when you see it with zero context of what the movie is about (like I did when I saw it as a teen). BYE BYE with Deadpool was hilarious and amazing
Agreed
It was cringe as f. Barely made me chuckle. Lasted way too long. Yep.

Deadpool dancing to Bye bye bye was hilarious the songs video even got retitled 😂
thanks for bringing once upon a time in the west...thats the most epic intro ever seen....no words, just ambience for 12 minutes straight
Blade not being mentioned in this list is criminal!
That first BLADE film was just incredible. It still holds up.

@ Deadpool and Wolverine

Very true about the Matrix and Good fellas and of course Javier Bardem's iconic role in No country for old men 👏.
the fact that Supertroopers isn't on this list is a crime.
"The shnozzberries taste like shnozzberries"
Oh I forgot about that. Maybe they should do a list of funniest openings. Super troopers would be No. 1
The first dream in Inception is an amazing way for Nolan to kickstart the plot but also to explain a lot of the rules of dreams to the viewers without explicitly telling them
Where is my Watchmen (2009) 😢 for the times they are changin’
Dawn Of The Dead (2004) was epic.
100% agree!
The slow crawl opening to star wars may not be super exciting, but it's so iconic it should be on this list. Top 10 easy.
Saving private Ryan . Should be in the top 5. It was so accurate WA2 vets that was there had to walk out bc it so accurate
the scene with the older Ryan at the cemetery brought down the opening a bit. The opening would have been more effective if it had started with the DDay sequence.
The Godfather 1 opening scene is a classic.
Raiders isn't just the best intro but the greatest movie ever.
Oh man, as far as I'm concerned, Touch of Evil has the best opening scene ever
I loved the beginning of the movie "Shoot em Up". Action and excitement right from the start.
The Lion King being left off is criminal!
Blade has the best opening scene of all time.

You forgot GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 opening sequence. Hilarious and Super fun.
The opening scene was a mother dying. It wasn’t the finding of the orb.
@@depalma13they said 2, not 1. 2 was Baby Groot dancing around to Mr Blue Sky while the other 4 are fighting
For me The Godfather, The Departed and Goodfellas👍
The intro of Deadpool and Wolverine is awesome, even the funniest I’ve ever seen.
The openlng to Bram Stokers Dracula where he becomes dracula is pretty damn good.
The "BYE BYE" scene with Deadpool was absolutely hilarious and brilliant!

The opening scenes of Raising Arizona and Fury Road deserve mentioning
The opening of 'Raising Arizona' is blissful chaos! 'Raising Arizona' is also my #1 movie of all time!
I'm so glad that Apocalypse Now was included. That opening has stuck with me since I first watched it a couple years ago
The Dark Knight first 10 minutes with the Hans Zimmer score let you know that you were about to witness movie history.
The first time I saw it might have missed the first few seconds or something like they were disorganised the cinema staff members.
Reno 911 movie is my all time favourite intro, Danny Devito, action, and the whole "you know you're driving right..." .
Gone in 60 seconds (2000) has an amazing opening scene.with excellent bgm.
"we might as well call a prison and make reservations" 😂😂
Deadpool dancing to NSYNC's Bye Bye Bye will be one of Greatest openings in movie history. 🎉
🎬 Wow, the intensity of these openings is unmatched! 🍿
X-2 opening scene with Nightcrawler, or Top Gun with the music and first F-14 launch off the carrier at sunset

west side story makes rocky horror look straight
X2 with Nightcrawler.
I can’t believe you left out Kung Fu Hustle.
You left off Star Wars (Episode IV), 1977. Iconic. And far better than half of your choices. Honorable mentions to Memento, Inception and Pacific Rim.
You forgot the blood party from the original Blade movie.
A clockwork orange is one of the best movies ever, period.
Deadpool and Wolverine’s opening should have been higher on the list it’s literally so iconic even if it’s only been out for 4 months
I really think that the opening scene from the Dawn of the Dead remake should have been (very high), on this list.
Transformers for me was an epic modern iteration of the franchise even if its fallen off

Everyone is going to have their own ideas, but this is a heck of a list. Great job.
28 Weeks Later intro was top notch
Final Destination 2 And Dawn Of The Dead (2004) And 28 Weeks Later Should Be On The List

What about "Inception?" It's a masterful soundtrack especially with the song when they are in the near end scene.
Watchmen, xmen origin - wolverine, Blade, Rasing Arizona...
But so glad Trainspotting was on the list.
You’ve gone with one Spaghetti western opening, (the best one I agree), I also like For a Few Dollars More.

How about the opening scene for From Dusk til Dawn with George Clooney & Quentin Tarantino? Or the opening parkour scene in the James Bond movie Casino Royale?
The parkour scene isn't really the opening of Casino Royale. The Opening would be the pre-credits scene where Bond makes his first two kills.
Before GoldenEye, there was The Spy Who L:oved Me's opening scene with Bond ambushed on a remote snowy cliff. When he went over the edge, there was a collective gasp from the audience as we watch him plunging to his death. And a huge cheer when his Union Jack parachute opened.

As flawed as Man of Steel is it's opening was amazing.

great list and Raiders is definitely #1
A decent list. I agree with the fact that Star Wars should have made the list. Another epic opening scene is Infinite. Yeah, It’s a car chase but so much more. And an excellent set up for the rest of the film.

The train wreck at the beginning of The Fugitive was awesome
The fact is that you put Deadpool at #30 is lunacy!
Right? It shouldn't even be on here.
Speed 1994 should be in the list.
2001 opening is so good that Mel Brooks had to spoof it
Saving Private Ryan should be in the top 5. I've never seen an opening so jarring and realistic. It is exquisite movie making.
The fact that Terminator 2 : Judgment Day is not on the list is baffling to say the least.
I love Saving Private Ryan. Let's all admit that Tom Hanks acting is the bomb 💣!!
Not a huge Star Wars fan but the opening to A New Hope probably should have made it on here.
I would of put the start to swordfish on the list.. the bomb scene is pretty epic
UP from Pixar. Maybe the best opening from any animation ever made.

Not adding the opening scene from A New Hope as one of the top 5 is a crime.
Hope Cliffhanger is in here!
