The irony is that high end turntables are 100 times more accurate than the lathes used to cut the disc masters, making the whole exercise pretty pointless. If you want to understand the intrinsic limitations of vinyl records, start by investigating the lathes and how disc mastering works. You'll realise why vinyl is bandwidth limited, and where its distortions come from.

and yet it is widely thought that vinyl playback is superior to digital. And I am certainly not anti digital and own over 3k SACD/CD's and have a very nice Esoteric N-05XD Streamer and an Esoteric K-03XD SACD player. With a well produced album, the sound quality is excellent on vinyl.
I would also consider that the lathes and other mastering tools are very, very good and accurate. Vinyl has been made for over 70 years and the manufacturers have got the process down and use excellent gear in the process.
Only thing I feel is better than Vinyl playback is Reel to Reel. Digital is very close and with some recordings it is superior but overall, vinyl still sounds the most natural.
