I wasn't simply saying "Koreans suck". There is a indie scene in Korea, but the Kpop industry has such a totalitarian stranglehold it is comparatively small, and generally Korea is such a Pop/R&B driven culture.. You'll hate me for saying it, but there is considerably more guitar and electronic music in Japan. In Korea you tend to hear the same 30 Kpop songs whether you're in a nightclub, at the dentist, or at 7/11. I think it needs to be highlighted and criticised so that things can improve.
South Korea is a great country, but in terms of cultural monoculturalism it can be a bit reminiscent of North Korea. Musically its like a country where 95% of restaurants are fast food restaurants. It's changing quickly, though.
