- The dahlias are here! August has flown by and with it has come a sad update inside the polytunnel but a rainbow of colours in the flower patch. Join me in this episode to see how the 'Jack be Little' pumpkins are growing (not so little!) on their archway and we'll harvest some tomatoes and flowers as we go.

Its good to sit down in your garden and think, you can come up with the best idea's of what to do, instead of rushing around and doing task's, better organising comes from that.
Making a comeback to the channel to Start the year in a high spirited way
incredible work katrina. Your videos are always a delight!
Best wishes for the wedding, I'm sure it will be spectacular with all your lovely flowers!
Wow, Katrina your garden flowers are beautiful. All your hard work is paying you back with beautiful blooms. I’m going to take this opportunity to wish you and your future husband the wedding that you’ve been dreaming of and a marriage that blooms like your flowers. Wishing you the best and thank you for sharing your gardening world. 👍❤️😊
Been eagerly awaiting for your August update.
Just watched the first few minutes and how impressive are your Dahlias? Wow! Mine have been a complete disaster this year. Rabbit damage at first which put them behind, then some insect or other has caused major leaf curl and they just haven't flowered. A neighbour's tree cast serious shadow over my garden so I know that they're not getting enough sun also.
Of the few I have in pots only one is really putting on a show. Really NOT my Dahlia year.
I shall have to pour a glass of wine sit down and enjoy your tour.🙂
Your flowers are looking so good! I'm so excited to see what you do with your wedding flowers, your wedding photographer will be in heaven capturing all the little details!
Love flowers
Congratulations u have grown such beautiful flowers for ur wedding which all brides aspire for❤❤
Wow your Dahlias are fantastic!! I’m in a new garden and I’ve discovered that growing Dahlias in Australia is pretty hard work. I just can’t get them to grow at all. I’m going to try a shady spot for them next year.
I managed to get a buffalo horn chilli to over-winter outside, so now I have a full-on tree and a thousand whopping chillies. Yehaa.
The colour you chose for dahlias is so stunning. Love the autumnal oranges. 🍂
Catherine from Cloudberry Flowers puts little organsa bags over her dahlia flowers to keep earwigs off them
Nice presentation.
You seem really calm for a bride nearing her wedding. No aura of "so much to do so little time!". Best wishes on your coming nuptials and remember as long as there's you, the groom, the officiant and the license are present, the rest is extraneous.
Garden is beautiful as always
Your Dahlias are looking beautiful. Love watching your channel, and may I say before many congratulations on your wedding day x🎉
wow, some big changes from February to now.... looks awesome
Hello from Australia your garden is a true inspiration..can't wait for chilli taste test..enjoy your wedding 🎉
Excellent 🎉 I subscribed to your channel 🙏
Dull day today so watching this to cheer myself up. Beautiful colours.
Love the star Dalias,so unusual and beautiful ❤️ Xx
Love your dahlias! ❤ and wishing you a beautiful wedding day 😊
Your allotment is so beautiful 👍 Have a great week 🌻🌞🌼🌝
I'm in the south east of Ireland my dahlias have been flowering since end of June think I planted them out end of February although they seem to be getting better as the months go on , out of 7 grew.
But some are a little to big for were I have them I'm going to go for boarder dahlias next year they are not as big and bushy.
I was just thinking that , how is any light getting in at the tomatoes looking around the outside of the polytunnel it's like a jungle.
So far I've only had a cherry tomatoe plant thats done well and even got a second plant from it. It's a small bushy variety. My stake tomatoes are still very green 😮 i would love to taste one when its ready. If they get that far.
You will have to show us the wedding bouquets cant wait to see them
I made some Carolina Reaper hot sauce this year. Just dilute it down with red bell pepper. So 2 ounces of Caroline Reaper and 32 ounces of Bell Pepper, it was still as hot or spicier than the Habanero sauce. You will need to wear gloves, glasses and possibly mask to process these high scoville chilis.
We have a fish tank not huge but we started with 12 and now have about 40. Yes there have been 3 lots of babies. They chase each other so maybe it’s to mate😮they are my granddaughters fish and they are called mollys and my grandaughter is called molly😆
Love the daliah section of garden. Mass planting looks fantastic. 😊
The view of the dahlia’s from your pond is stunning. Turn off your app notifications to help the phone. It worked for me. :)
Thanks!
I love that darkstar looking one tell you it is so beautiful beautiful yeah this is the one that said Pennsylvania that New Kensington memorial Park Moody gardens
Best wishes to you both on your wedding day. Thanks for the August tour Katrina your flowers are truly beautiful.
Your aversion to red is so funny Katrina, no traditional red roses at your wedding lol
I was thinking about you and your flowers for your wedding , you had disappeared from my feed , wishing you many blessings and love , and all your flowers for the wedding ❤️🩹🥰🙏
Late last night i found blight on most of my outdoor plants. Too late in the day to do anything. This morningnill see whether its only on leaves on which case ill prine aggressively. If on the stem as you suggest, ill have to pull them all out. Just as my Roma started colouring. Really wanted to can a lot for the autumn.
I hrew a couple if suoer hits 8 years ago. You could smell the heat through the skin, without cutting them. Scary things.
I dried them in the iver them ground tgem up to make catenne pepper. I still have some, potent stuff but amazing flavour. I never tried cooking a chilli, just the powder.
A lovely allotment tour, thanks!
Hi

The flowers are very beautiful. I love seeing them at a distance. Awesome looking out over the top of them.
Wishing you a marvelous wedding day & thank you so much for sharing all those delights
THATS the answer to worldly woes : field of Dahlias !!! ha !!! 😃😃😃
Your bouquet 💐 will be stunning- and so are you!
Nice♥️🥰
🎏🎏Happy Almost Nuptials Katrina (and groom) 💐💐
wow ..absolutely beautiful . love
so Mean, Red dahlias are beautifull too
Your garden looks like heaven! Those pom pom are gorgeous. How many of them did you plant?😮
Katrina you're going to make some lovely bouquets with all those fabulous flowers Best of Luck to you on you're Wedding
Another fab video, the Dahlias are looking fantastic too. Your wedding is going to be just beautiful.
Those squash plants are definitely not Jack be Little, they should look like mini pumpkins the size of your palm and normal pumpkin orange colour, I think wherever you got your seeds from have mixed up the seeds 😊 Love all your dahlia’s, you inspired me to grow some for the first time this year, I planted singles for the bees and after a slow start they are finally producing some beautiful flowers 😁
I agree, lots of folks grow them around my allotment, and they're exactly as you said, as soon as I saw hers, I was thinking that it had been a mix-up of seeds 😅
Such impressive dahlias, I'm so jealous. I take it your structures worked because they are all stood perfectly tall?! Have you ever thought about starting your own flower business because you're so successful with your flowers! Mind you, you're chilli's are pretty damn good too!
Had a similar issue with the squash. Mine has started to creep onto the bean frame and it's a Maria De'Choggia which will be fun 😅
Wish you all the best for the wedding! Please take some photos of the bouquets and arrangements, I can't wait to see what you do with them all and how they're arranged!
Really sad about Wilko. I'm the same as you, used to get so much from there from seeds to cheap outdoor paint. Hopefully someone will buy them up.
All looking luscious. Take care 🌱😊
P.S - Chilli Roulette with the husband to be and a few mates with a curry and a bevvy or two. Might be a laugh 😂😅
Absolutely stunning dahlias Katrina. It’s my first year growing them but it certainly won’t be my last. I’ve only got 7 but they’re blooming great. I know you mentioned putting traps up for earwigs etc but have you ever thought of using organza bags over the tops of the buds. I watch a lady in America (Sunshine and Flora) and she uses them and it seems to work. I personally use Vaseline up the stems but I’ve only got a few to deal with. Not sure you’ll get a bag big enough for the dinner plate ones though😂😂 Deb x
Loved the tour especially the dahlias - I lost all mine this winter. I am sure the seed companies are playing tricks on us as I have met do many gardeners whose squash, pumpkins and courgettes are not what they thought they would be! Surely we can’t have all muddled our seeds up! Every happiness on your forthcoming wedding and I hope all goes to plan after all your hard work. Perhaps just one wedding photo for us to enjoy in the Autumn!
I'm drawn by your life-affirming smile!
Beautiful video of gorgeous flowers. A great deal of work that seems to be producing well for you. Wishing you a beautiful celebration for your special day💝🇨🇦
Fantastisch Good video Kristana you the best grootjes Top thans te vlogs ❤🤗🎈🌞✔️💐🍈🍉🍅
The Dahlias are fab..so worth waiting for...
also gutted about wilkos :(. Allotment looking amazing as always, such an inspiration!
There's a Canadian business man supposed to be starting talks with Wilko's. Just have to hope & pray it's a success. Will be a shame if end up like Woolies x
Looks like the flowers are coming up roses! Enjoy the next few weeks and we will see you sometime in October - you'll need time to catch your breath after the wedding and honeymoon.
That chilli sounds like a Take 2 challenge - if you want to remember the first video you and you fiance did??
I am planning on tackling "the weeds" this week to get my garden prepped for the coming spring season (I'm in New Zealand).
My Tigerella and Golden Sunrise tomatoes are starting to come into fruiting. I've filled my parents greenhouse, a mini-greenhouse, and some outside growbags, and even then ran out of space for them, so still have some in small pots that aren't really growing much. There are even some where I had taken side shoots off and just stuck it in a pot and its survived and started to grow.
You are as pretty as your flowers.
A word of warning if you haven't already noticed - the Veronne's Obsidian is very fragile and easily drops a petal or two when harvested and handled, if your not careful. They're gorgeous as long as you're careful with them. 😊
Also, I would love it if you could show how you deal with earwigs eating dahlias! My white and light pink ones are especially targeted, and since I have an allotment I can't be there every morning to empty traps.
For your earwigs Neom oil. U mix it with warm water and a drop of washing up liquid this breaks down the oil give a good shake and spray your plants can be used on all plants and vegetables. It won't effect birds ladybugs basically the good things we need in the garden. O do it as late as possible in the evening. It's also good for plants and the soil. No more earwigs
@@elainemcgran8828 I had never heard of Neom oil, thanks for the tip!
i buy and spray natural nematodes , kills most bugs naturally and is plant and wildlife safe
@@elainemcgran8828 mind blowing you use chemicals in washing up liquid on your natural plants, ive not had pests for 5+ years using nematodes
Nice! My dahlias are blooming nicely now too. In another couple of weeks, mid-September, they will be quite a good show. Here it seems things have been ripening up a couple of weeks earlier than usual. Amaranth, another common name 'love lies bleeding', is one which I love. Your orange squash looks like it is pretty ripe with that stem turning brown. Some of my winter squash are doing the same this year, ripening earlier than usual. Your hot pepper, 'Armageddon', made me start to sweat just watching and thinking about that 1.3 million on the 'HOT' scale. Glad to see your flowers are performing for you. By the time of your wedding you should have a good number of colourful varieties for your bouquets. Enjoy the rest of your summer. Cheers and happy gardening!
Hi Katrina! A very interesting vlog about your Homegrown Garden! Thanks! Hopely these vlog to be continue.....Loves greetimgs and fan from your beauty site; Pieter Smit from the Netherlands!😀🤔🌻🌺🌷🥀🪴☘🐞🦋💞👍
Wonderful tour and gorgeous flowers 🍃🌸🍃
Would love to see your wedding dress & your bouquet lv Irene 😘 xx
Lovely little plot. Doing a fantastic job. Not been the best year for tomatoes unfortunately. Nice to see you are giving the super hots a crack. Started doing a couple of varieties each year after my nephew asked me too. Gone right to the very top of the scoville percentages with caralina reaper and trinidad moruga scorpion. These are a further million more than the armegedon variety. Bit of fun but outrageously hot.
WoW gorgeous ❤❤❤ excited for your wedding day ❤🤞😊
My Jack Be Little are the same, I’m glad I saw yours as I was convinced it was me! Mine are turning orange now and are massive. My baby boo are tiny in comparison
Mine are the same. I’m growing them up a trellis - I don’t know how they’re still on the plant, I daren’t touch them in case they fall off!
Beautiful 😍 🤩 👌
Wow your amazing I learn quite a lot from you thank you fir uour great vids❤
It's looking amazing. Great job¡!
wow can you talk about how you amend your soil for dhalias / flowers please. i have been waiting for you to post a new video and not disappointed! beautifu! I'll take the red ones LOL
Been wonderful summer in the UK ❤
Very beautiful flower plant, thank you for sharing
They look stunning your flowers. I can’t wait to see your wedding photos I hope they all last or are ready for the wedding
love the chillis chilli sis
You have a stunning allotment
I was seriously considering growing cobaea next year but the later flowering has put me off and I shall be growing Ipomoea Chocolate instead. I confess, I still call Wilko, Wilkinson's. It's the only shop I'll venture onto the high street for. Hope all goes well for the wedding 🙂
The dahlias are beautiful. You've inspired me to devote a corner of my tiny garden to them.
As for the armageddon chilli, you can use them very sparingly in cooking. Think of how much scotch bonnet you would put in a recipe and put in half! Do not copy my husband though who ate a whole Carolina Reaper (1.5-2.5 million scoville units) straight from the plant. He said the pain was like being stung by a thousand bees at once, went white and looked like he was going to faint or be sick. It took 3 days for his stomach to get back to normal....For some reason, this year instead of tending 3 carolina reaper plants, he's turned his attention towards cayenne, jalapeños and basket of fire. Can't think why.
I am in Lincoln a short drive from Nottingham, I have several baby hazelnut trees to rehome annually if this is of interest to you let me know and i can get them to you.
Squirrels steal most of my hazelnut harvest and bury them all over my garden, then they appear randomly, i hate to dispose of them but not everyone has room although they are very small trees and give fabulous tasting hazelnut's. the mother tree is a twisted hazelnut or walking stick tree, i love it's always a noted talking point as its so unusual. I have last years trim back dried and ready to create Halloween 🎃 🎃 twisted trees and spooky gifts. kind regards Wanita.
what lovely dahlias well done katrina
I would be interested to know how many dahlia tubers were planted to get that beautiful display ? Love the Cornel Brons. The fish behaviour ? He is keen but She is not interested 😅 All best for the wedding 💖
Hey Kat 👋 I don't know if you remember me but we bought our medaka at the same time. I've just had 3 of mine lay eggs 😮 and I was wondering if any of yours have? I wasn't expecting them to this year but just this week I noticed eggs all underneath 3 of them and they have laid them on the roots of my water letuce! So check your roots! 😃😃
Woah that’s crazy! I haven’t checked on them that closely. I will next time I’m at the plot 👀 Thanks for the heads up!
my dahlia has only come up where they are supposed to flower
so I hope they bloom this year
reasons for it it has only rained in July
One of the most gorgeous faces on RUclips(or elsewhere for that matter)!
I think Seamus may be chasing the females. Also, how are the climbing roses doing that you planted this spring near the dead tree?
I thought this but I’m sure the ones he’s chasing are male. Maybe it’s a food/territory thing!
In my July tour I think I shared an update on the climbing rose as it was blooming. Those have finished now but the shrub Roald Dahl rose by the apple tree is putting on buds again!
I have read that male fish sometimes chase other males 🤷♀️
I think I would like to grow dahlias instead of tomatoes next year.
Planted pom pom seeds this year, they flowered but no pom pom
Last year my husband bought an Armageddon chilli because he didn't bother to read the label. It flourished in last summer's heat and we had many chillies. He then showed me a video of a woman on breakfast telly eating one - I thought she was going to die! I put the whole lot in the freezer and they are still there ........
I'm wondering what the ratio is for the watered down milk. Meant to ask earlier.
Hallo... Can I plant rose during cold season?
I think you know what we want to see. You and your new hubby having a super-hot eating showdown. Oh and thanks for the tip about stressing the plants to make the chilli's hotter. I'll give that a go.
My whole garden is from Wilko 😭😭😭
By the way, I'm growing a dinnerplate Dahlia variety called Belle of Barmera and it's gorgeous. Also your obsidian something something looks like Honka Black that I'm growing ?!?
Feed the really hot chilli to people who enjoy it…I wouldn’t enjoy them myself!
How do you grow Dahlias without the slugs eating them? Mine have been eaten....destroyed. Have hedgehogs so no slug pellets!
Can we still plant this month?
Could I just ask how close you plant your dahlias?
Could you please tell me the name of the dark purple red dahlia with the twisted petals. I would love to grow that one.
Verone’s Obsidian
flippin hawt
What is the name of your dark pom pom burgundy Dahlia?
Natal. Stay tuned for the full dahlia video if you like the dahlias!
Yeah that's definitely not jack be little lol!
