The Kargil War broke out between India and Pakistan while the World Cup was in progress.It started prior to the World Cup and would conclude following it.There was no possibility of India and Pakistan meeting during the league stage because they were in different groups. However, they both made it to the Super Six. Because of Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Azharuddin's 50s, India set Pakistan a target of 228 to win. For our bowlers, it was more than sufficient. India dismissed Pakistan for just 176 runs, led by Venkatesh Prasad's five-wicket haul. It forced Pakistan to the verge of elimination and kept India in the competition.
