The Backrooms is actually based on a few different things like a psychological horror novel called The Yellow Wallpaper, a 4chan post, a YT series, and it’s even getting a movie. Basically, the original concept is slight annoyances that gradually drive you insane: a moist carpet, the dull hum of fluorescent lights, that sickening shade of yellow that makes you nauseous if you look at it too much… Trust me on this, I built a Minecraft base in a savannah. I know something as simple as COLORS can make you want to throw up.
It's a bit less about the minor annoyances and more about liminal spaces. The place is simply so generic that you only know the general idea of where you are, and not the actual place itself. You see the dying yellow of the walls withe the fluorescent lighting, the carpet that has been there since probably before you were born, and just an endless maze of nothing of note anywhere. You have no idea where you are, only where you could be.
The backrooms is also about you being in places that bring a sense of familiarity, like you've been there before, but you never have. For example, they were in a car garage at one point, which you've most likely been to.
The Yellow Wallpaper isn't really about a sickening wallpaper. If anything, the one character in the story actually likes the wallpaper. Maybe likes is the wrong word. More like desperately clings to. They're a woman who is deemed "hysterical" and told that in order to "treat" her they have to keep her away from any kind of stimulation. She is locked in a windowless room with nothing to occupy her mind but the patterns on the wallpaper. You might read it as the wallpaper driving her mad, I suppose. But I think a more reasonable reading is that being locked up alone in a room drives her mad and the wallpaper is the thing the last vestiges of her sanity clings to. Eventually the main character kills herself, but the thing that is probably most notable about the story is that the author was writing it autobiographically. She really was a woman who was a bit TOO outspoken and opinionated who was locked away in a windowless room for a long time to "treat" her.
We love how Jaiden and Alpharad are tagged in this video despite them not even being here. I'm guessing I only just noticed this and all of their videos are tagged with both names by default.

It never ceases to amaze me how The Backrooms as a concept are so widely known yet often misunderstood to such a massive degree. In a nutshell, they're liminal spaces that have various strange properties designed to drive you insane, paranoid, and otherwise mentally unstable. Level 0 has no entities. There is nothing there to kill you. You aimlessly wander the halls and go insane from the buzzing of the lights and nonsensical layout that constantly changes. Cade even commented on that when he saw that short description of Level 0. "I was killed by something, what o you mean 'minimal risk'?" It makes sense from a gameplay perspective to have an entity, and it also makes these videos much more entertaining, but it does sadly misrepresent The Backrooms. One day, maybe a faithful game for The Backrooms will come out and be well designed then gain traction. Similar to how SCP has multiple quality games that accurately represent the concept despite the intentional multiple canons.
I dont know why, but seeing people who seem to have little to no knowledge in the Backrooms try to traverse the Backrooms is somewhat funny/entertaining. I know a lot of this stuff, so I feel like the experience I would have in this game would be a bit lackluster unless I surround myself with people who dont know as the other players. Also just a heads up, if your planning on playing this gane again from where you left off (It is the beginning of level 4 in this game I'm geussing, which according to both version is usually harmless, but it could be different in the game), I do have to warn yoy about level 6 and 7. Level 6, known as "Lights Out" is just a pitch black room you have to traverse, and I beleive this game has "skin stealers" (the monsters seen in the parking garage, aka level 1) in this level, so a Flashlight is necessary, and Level 7 is one that quite litteraly has a phobia in its name, which is "Thalassophobia", it is an underwater level that has dangers. Level 8 and 9 are also dangerous, but I don't really have very well knowledge of what this game would portray those levels as. Im giving this useless info as more of a heads up incase if there are plans of future videos on this game (so you could probably make sure to have someone sensitive to this stuff not play to avoid tramatizatuon, or to avoid inviting someone else to play during those levels. Yet again, dont know the game to an extreme extent since I only seen videos, so you could possibly be able to go on a different path of levels if the game has those, and you discover them)
I managed to open the co-op door by myself by sprinting from key to key. Wasn't super easy though 😅 Definitely would have been easier if my friend hadn't died.

52 braincells is WAY too generous, at max you three have a combined total of 31
exactly the vibe of my first thought as soon as i heard him say that
i'm pretty sure it's a reference to this being the 52nd wild card episode
If they have 52 braincells combined from the three of them then each one has 17.3 brain cells.
It’s probably a reference to the fact that a standard deck of cards has 52 cards!
@fearlessfit8952 and it's their 52nd episode as well

Yeah, The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a woman who is driven insane locked in her room, honestly a really fun read
At this point wildcard is just Smith's 2nd channel and I'm here for it
Smith alone in horror games sounds great! They are genuinely scared, not just screaming, I appreciate that.
Personally, I love Cade’s intros
Same here lol
Same
They remind me of Hatty Intros from Battleblock Theater. It's nice.
The braincells are totaled as follows: Smith: 50, Giwi: 2 , and Kade 0
Close. Smith: 50, Kade: 0, and Giwi: -50
Nah, it’s smith 104, Kade 0, and giwi -52
Nah its more like : Smith: 100, Kade: 0 and Giwi: -100
52 doesn't divide by 3 evenly so I feel like someone has canonically the most brain cells and I need to know which one
The whimsical joy I feel when I see smith on the thumbnail.. remarkable.
soooooo true
