The fifth game in the long running series of run-and-gun shooters is something of a return to form. The weird Metallish system that featured in its predecessor is gone, and in its place...nothing. I think the key strength of Metal Slug 5 is it goes back to what the series was all about to begin with, which is some great shooting action, with varied locales showcasing some of the best 2D sprite-work to have ever existed.
In terms of new stuff, players get to pilot a new variant of the Special Vehicle, namely a squat bi-pedal mech equipped with minigun and pneumatic ram. This rotary cannon-packing refrigerator with oversized turret can even deploy a set of tank tracks for speedier movement when the need arises.
Overall, I feel Metal Slug 5 is a decent game. It still doesn't quite manage to capture the magic of the original, at least for me, but I had a good time with it, all the same.

Amazingly, the original SNK went bankrupt in 2001, the Neo-Geo was 13 years old, and still producing quality titles for us to enjoy. Metal Slug 5 is actually my favorite of the series for the Neo, and really pushed the power for 2003 standards is why so many still love the Neo-Geo.
It always blows my mind seeing you best these games without dying. And I never knew about the alternate path at 17:12. Great playthrough as always!
@@victor.elkins Yeah, no kidding! Also, it takes many many playthroughs of a game to learn it well enough to survive all the way through without cheats. Someone might do a few longplays of their favorite games to show them off, but who has time to learn dozens and dozens of games for a longplay channel?

Year of release is 2003. So, it is 20 years old now!
Although this game is incomplete because of rushed development progress and change of the game engine, I do like its metal(or rock) BGMs!

Is it me however it's Metal Slug 5, and i watch a different Metal Slug 5 i see a completly different game? As i've seen many Metal Slugs so far, i just can;'t remember seen those enemies with the metal masks tho. Metal Slug series are always fun to play!

The yellow submarine in level 4 yes is similiar to thunderbird 4 but is a reference of another game made by irem ( the old house made the firts metal slug). The game is "In the hunt"
