The engine is wrong, too many cylinders make our production too expensive and that's what western people do. It should be a 2 cylinder minimum, 3 at max. Now where is the man who designed this car, I need to have a word with him.
Check out FSO Syrena Sport if you want to see an actual Soviet supercar, never made it into production because of being too lavish and outstanding for the standard in Soviet countries at the time. It was a FWD 2door coupe pumping out 35hp out of a 700cc 2 cylinder boxer engine.
Real 'soviet supercars' were designed by skoda and trabant, both featuring tweaked variants of production engines, producing between 70-200bhp, and featuring light chassis construction, and stylimg that implies a lot more impressive performance than they actually had.
5:24 Good thing you noticed the engine self-destructed right then and there, it would be quite nasty to have your soviet superiority getting disproved as soon as you started the engine :d

Dont know about that one, but the 2107 was group B homologated, and had numerous racecars built on the chassis, and the samara served as the basis for the EVA, a 4wd rally car that did fairly well at dakar.
There is a Russian sports car that is from the 80's or 90's, I don't remember the name, but is looks like this, but is does have a fiber glass body, a 5 speed manual, and a 1.6 16v carbureted engine, and double wishbone suspension on all corners. holly shit you know nothing about sovjet cars in that time era they had turbos and fuel injektion and 160-220 hp minimum ( some cars) oh and five speed gear box
Categorically wrong. Soviet personal cars never had turbos, those were reserved for heavi vehicles, such as trucks. They also most certainly didnt.make over 200hp. The highest power output of a soviet.made car avalible to the public in the 8ps was the lada niva with a 1.6l i4 making between 90 and 95hp. The only soviet made roadcar with over 200hp was the volga kgb interceptor special, with a 5.4l v8, but thats actually from the 60s.
just saying this doesnt remind me of soviet design and performance at all, for the time i wouldnt go that crazy on butchered design and it would make atleast 200hp as a minimum. in the end they werent stupid they were soviets.
Soviet roadcar engimes that made above 100 hp were few and far between. The copy of the chevy 5.4l v8 from the 60s in the volga interceptors, the three rotor wankel in the zhiguli highway police cars, the upbored tuned 1.9l from the lada vfts homologation variant, and skodas race engines from the 130RS, and 180 and 185RS prototypes. I think the problem with most of these is obvious. They are racecar engines. Unsuited for a roadcar, unrelyable and with high fuel consumption. The V8 is ancient, and probably way to expensive to produce for a car that an eastern block citizen is supposed to be able to afford, or be built in numbers sufficient for such. Which.leaves us with the 170hp rotary. Which would still be unrelyable, but russians dont care about leaking apex seals if the engine does run, which it would, at reduced performance. So the best chance Im seeing for something like this, is probably a 3 door coupe built by trabant, with the same polymer body construction, on a pressed steel frame, with a licensed NSU wankel engine, rwd and maybe independent front suspension, and a manually locking rear differential. It would serve as a ploy to aquire foreign currency primarily, by selling it as an absurdly.cheap.sports car to the west, easily able to compete with things like the AE86. Domestically it would serve as a successor to the volga, as a prestige vehicle for party functionaries, and upper management, the younger of whom with the slowly encroching popculture revolution, with ever increasing amounts of western media amd trends filtering into the eastern block would probably covet it greatly. It would also serve as the basis for the very large semi lrofessional motorracing enthusiast community of the eastern block, instead of tricked out ladas.
