Love hearing this! I was the 100% A+ grades sister and star athlete of my family lol. I hit 25 and the career I pursued makes me hate my life. I do currently have a decent job, but it sure isn’t the one. I’ve decided to give being an electrician a try! Took my test and now waiting for an interview! Thank you for inspiring others and providing info. It sure helps! I’ve been helping the maintenance guys at my job when they need it and it’s been so fun. Hoping this works out!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Always find your videos interesting and your level of detail impressive. I personally took Masonry class in high school. My main takeaway was attention to details and I didn’t want to work that hard for the remainder of my life. Got a 2 year degree in electronics and worked for a year wiring control panels. As an elective in college I took a 3 phase theory class and as I started to burnout working in a factory spotted a job add for power dispatcher and applied. As luck would have it I got the job and retired as a senior system operator +32 years later. Never sell yourself short. If you ever get tired of working in inclement conditions there are numerous jobs out there that pay well to people with real world experience. Wishing you the best.

Im making this comment as soon as you said “slow” without continuing the video. I have some words of wisdom a wise one once told me: “slow is smooth and smooth is slow”. Look at your work and attention to detail. Enough said and I’m 100% certain EVERYONE agrees.
I’ve been watching videos like crazy on electrician work. Everything about it seems like something I’d enjoy. But like most people I’ve seen commenting around, I’m not the best at math. But out of all the day in the life videos of different careers, this is the one that gives me excitement butterflies.
Did you see her previous video about changing the size of a wire? It was pretty simple math. Many people that aren't "good" at math suddenly understand it when they're dealing with the practical application of it.
If you get the butterflies you should do it!
@@MarkRose1337 I can’t recall if I’ve seen that video. The hurdle I’m facing is that every apprenticeship I’ve found wants a recent college level math class completion. So I am gonna have to do that if I even want a shot.

Obviously there is something you're good at - wiring! I've got a degree in electrical engineering and I remember one classmate who always got better grades than I did until we got to hands on labs. I already had electronics experience and was familiar with the components we were going to use. But my smarter classmate was at a total loss in the lab. Ended up dropping the course and taking it again. And I had another friend who graduated around the same time but asked me if the outlets in our houses were wired in series or parallel. I understood that when I was about 12 years old. Unfortunately he didn't have the hands on experience and they didn't teach that in electrical engineering. Everyone has different skills and yours is wiring (and probably other things too).
The best way to subsequently change the insulation color of the active phase or the neutral conductor or the protective conductor is to use an endless shrink tube with hot glue inside. Simply cut it to the appropriate length, pull it over the conductor and heat it with a hot air gun. For very large cross-sections, simply use a gas burner to heat them. The hot glue then bonds the shrink tube perfectly to the conductor so that the color coding adheres permanently to it later. This happens very quickly, especially with many wires, and offers a reliable and safe form of marking.

Learning under someone can DEFINITELY make or break your journey, I had a horrible person in the beginning and I was questioning to just leave the trade, luckily enough I got replaced to work under someone else and it made my learning experience so much better, I think my contractor saw I was getting trouble so he made a choice to switch me up with someone else.
I unfortunately had the same experience very early on. The few guys I worked with at the first contractor were FING a holes. But I took the crap and eventually got away from them. I changed my attitude and focus more on learning and work. I moved on to another contractor and was there for 23 1/2 years, I was the top guy but got tried of the BS. I moved to a testing company and now hold 10 masters licenses for the company. I have more than doubled my salary and make over $200k a year so it worked out for me.
@stanley4006 Now that's an inspiring story, glad to hear you're doing well. I only just started my journey and I couldn't tell you how much more I learned and the experience I gained with the new guy that took me under his wing. Learned more in one week than with the 3 months I spent taking crap from the other guys.
@@Che9009 stick with it you will do fine but it takes time to get respect from other coworkers. I can tell you that if you really try and learn and understand how things work you will gain a ton of respect once people realize you know what you’re doing and can troubleshoot and figure stuff out on your own. Some people get it and some never do. You will get out of it what you put in it.
I have a friend that worked under me, he worked at the last place where I worked. He stayed there 3 years after I left. Last year he started his own business and makes more money in 2 weeks now then he made In 4 months at the last place. He will easily make $200k plus this year. He has tons of business. He’s been in the trade for 15 years or so. If you ever have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

The right tool for the job is not exclusive to being an electrician. As a helicopter mechanic, not only does the company I work for supply specialty tools called out by the manufacturers, but my personal tool box has tools that make my life easier.

That Milwaukee 2753-20 Imapct Driver you're using though older is a great tool. If you have the opportunity you should check out the Milwuakee 2760-20 Surge Hydraulic Driver, I think it would work better for the type of fasteners you are working with.
The torque output is smoother with considerably less vibration.

WHAT? vertical taping versus the labor intensive spiraling? How did I not know this, for real! Mind blown and thank you!
It might peel off after a while but with the spiraling, it'd only affect the ends. I've seen electrical tape peel off, especially when the weather is hot.
Could you put white heatshrink tubing on the blues to make them white or would that violate code requirements? I do this regularly for automotive restoration to match the car's OEM wiring color scheme. I'm peanut butter and jelly of your panel organization, so clean!

You know what the string inside the cable is for... Clean panel though. Good job.
Just last week I had to use white tape on place wires in a box as the original electrician seemed to have used black and white wires randomly.

We don't have much 575 three phase in the US but I worked on it once near the Canadian border.
To color wires back in the day I used to grab a glove and put some paint on my hand (only a little at a time) and run down the length of the wire. No idea if this was to code, or any kind of best practice, but it worked and those wires are still colored white, black and green to this day.....

Shrink tube is the best way to color your wires. It takes more time, money, and tools. But that's the best way. Or just order the right cable for your codes.
You're in a trade which will always keep food on your plate, you don't have to worry about it after work, maybe you're quicker than you give yourself credit for.
so that three phase panel, with double breakers, do you place them to rotate the load.. first breaker on a & b, second on b&c, third on c& a etc? i know its not a "how to" video but... , and i doubt ill ever see a three phase panel again [retired] but when i was working some panels were high leg and some were delta.. but our electrician always put the double breakers so they rotated around on delta and alternated on high leg so every double breaker had one side on the high leg.. i think you do much neater work than we ever did but im very curious about how that panel is wired.

When you terminate grounded conductor you should mark what circuit they are part of so you don't have to cut neat bundle of ty rapped white wires.

As a European master electrician im always fascinated by North American electrical installations.
To me your new electrical panels look like something I'd be ripping out from an old house built in the 1930's over here.
European panel material is mostly all touch free now with insulated bus and collector bars. Housing of most components and inside of the cabinet is made out of.
Also zip ties are banned in panels as per code so we use organizing loops and other patent systems.
Karly I'd recommend you check out European panels, I'm sure you'd be fascinated.
I agree with the sentiment society harps on all the time that people that go into trades are less than and how trade work is absolutely not respected. It's on the same level as being a janitor or a garbage collector in the eyes of randomized people I've polled and asked for their perspective.
Girls for example find tradies uneconomically attractive and guys think of it as menial low pay work.
This is a commercial panel. Residential panels generally have partially covered bus bars with the incoming service lines in a separate compartment. It shouldn't matter anyway-surely you're not working in a live panel?

I can remember my teacher yelling at me in highschool because I wasn't paying attention. I told him I'm never going to need this because I was going to build classic cars. He said good luck if you don't even know how to math. I told him the only math I would need is how to count money. I then dropped his class and picked up the teacher assist. And guess what, I own my own restoration business!
So, I know very little about electrical, but I'm curious...it code says it's supposed to be white, why is it blue?
My guess is 3 wire that size would be typically used for three phase without a neutral (delta configuration, not wye), and that wire follows the red, black, blue pattern in Canada for 3 phases.
I'm not an electrician either.
