- Hi! I found a small kitchen cleaver at a flea market. I have restored a huge number of different cleavers, but I have not seen this. Very interesting. This is the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. I'm starting to restore it.
First, I cut off the old copper rivets and put the cleaver in the rust remover. Next, to neutralize the acid process - I placed the cleaver in soda with water.
I cleaned the surface of the cleaver with additional sandblaster, treated it with an iron brush and sandpaper. The hardness of the cutting edge turned out to be very weak, and I re-heat-treated the cutting edge of the cleaver.
Then I sanded the surface of the cleaver and moved on to creating a handle made of beech wood. I used brass rivets. As usual, I conducted a test for you. Please do not forget to share this video.

Another fine restoration. I like the way the front of the handle is shaped, continuing the line formed by the back of the cleaver. It looks clean and modern.

Very beautiful work, sir! I was surprised at the copper rivets. It makes me think that cleaver/hatchet is likely from the mid 1800's. It looked like it was cut out of a plate of cast iron, thus the strange kerfs on the tang and the sharp angle where the blade and tang meet. That's my best uneducated guess anyway.
Your snack board looked very tasty!! I can only imagine how everything tasted and what the sauce and sausages are called. I love summer sausage, bread, and pickle as a snack when i have those available.

Отличная реставрация, по времени изготовления скорее года 60-80 , из СССР.
Не, точно не этот период. В то время скучные тесаки были и плюс заклепки на тонких ножках. Это самый максм. 20-30 годы

Another tool given a second life, very good to see. There is too much trash and waste in the world as things are.
That defect in the handle kind of looks like a mistake made when forging the cleaver. Fortunately it’s in the handle which doesn’t need to be hardened so it shouldn’t affect the use of the cleaver.
I was just thinking that some day you should think about taking a project to a full mirror polish just to show that you can. Nothing with a history or course, nothing anyone would consider an antique. At least some of us would appreciate a lesson or two in doing that because it can be very difficult. Maybe take a poll to see if there’s enough interest for you to put the effort into it?

Это средство все тоже самое, просто спустя 2 года использования я решил заменить его на новое тоже самое
Судя по рыжему испарению похоже на азотную кислоту
От азотной я стараюсь быть далеко, там есть насколько я понимаю в составе ортофосфорная. Ибо само средство вообще для очистки ванных комнат для хозяек, просто гремучая смесь

I think 21cm is well above average size.
I usually saw cleavers 36-42 cm long, but this one is very small

@@ScrewsAndTools Попадались разные, но размерам особого внимания не уделял. Вообще работаю с чугуном. Печная арматура в основном. Дверцы иногда роскошные попадаются.
