I have a low-end dell build with a i7 3700. The problem is in Act 3 where frames dip in the high teens and are regularly in the mid-20's. It makes the game nearly unplayable and takes away a lot of the immersion.
I played a LOT of my bg3 playthrough on steamdeck and you have to be comfortable running around with 20ish fps. On a desktop you may need to switch to 720p and/or performance FSR, but also I just want to say frame rate isn't suuuper important in bg3. Yes it sucks but I grew up with Mario 64 getting like 15fps in the water. The fact we can run bg3 at all on mediocre machines is pretty fantastic. What gpu are you using?
@@CanadianComputerCollector Sorry for late reply, running a 6500xt which isn't very powerful. Anyway, I upgraded to a new machine with more powerful CPU but it actually runs WORSE! Ugh
For sure! If you can afford a gtx 1080 they can be found for about $150 cad pretty regularly and you will be able to get 1080p60fps relatively easily or even 4k30 with the right cpu. The market keeps improving!
This was a fantastic video. I’m upset you guys don’t have more views here. Is there any way you guys have a list for the specs on a link or links to where you picked up the components?
Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately I can't really provide links as these are all used parts we found on local classifieds sites like Facebook marketplace, eBay, and Kijiji. Keep your eyes open for bargains you'll find them if you stay vigilant!
Haven't got there yet, but even if it causes heavy dips most of these machines were getting FPS in the low 40s to mid 50s so if you cap it at 30, you've got some breathing room
Hey crew, could you help me out please? I am not very tech savvy, but am an old TTRPG Grognärd. Can you tell me if my computer can play bg3? I don’t need the highest settings, I just want to play. Thanks for any help. Here are the specs: i5-7300HQ, DDR4 SO-SIMM 8g, Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 3GB, HDD 1TB
Probably, but you will definitely want to cap the framerate at 30fps and you will have some dips in the "busier" areas. Also, Unless you have an SSD, you will need to enable slow hard drive mode in the video settings.
would love this for laptops i have no room for a desktop atm otherwise plz direct me to where i can get all the stuff for the ammo box i'll figure out space for it XD
Just gotta watch your local classifieds ads for deals, that's how we cobbled all this stuff together! Motherboard/cpu combos or even full machines with no graphics card are a great place to start. Look for something with a high end i5 or any i7, add ram and look for a cheap GTX 1060 (or better). There are lots out there!
@@CanadianComputerCollectoryeah i gave it a few days could i bother you guys for the build for the ammo box I'm gonna make a list to look out for slow or not I'll get it all together
@@elden_lord22 i5 4590, 16gb DDR3 ram, GTX 1060 3gb GPU. Honestly, the newer the i5 you can get the better, but try not to go much older than 3rd or 4th gen. Literally any i7 should perform decently as well. Avoid AMD processors older than 2nd gen ryzen. You may actually be able to cobble together an AM4 motherboard and ryzen 5 2600 pretty cheap as well - keep your eyes out for a deal!
@@CanadianComputerCollector hi! what about i5 (4th gen) with gtx 1050 (4gb) do you think this can run baldurs gate decently? i don't know anything about pcs and is kinda struggling to find something that's in between afforable as i kinda don't want to spend so much on a pc as im not a gamer 😭
@@noonzdesu6497 the 1050 will likely struggle, if you can get your hands on a cheap 1060 that should be a decent machine. Also, make sure you have at least 16gb of ram - it makes a difference!
I mean, i got a steal on a thinkpad that plays the game at 1080p ultra quality fsr + taa all day. Something I noticed, fsr2 performs much worse than fsr 1.
the die roll on screen around 5:00 was a nice touch

Very Nice Guys Great to see all the comparisons on those PCs
Thanks Dave! It was tedious but fun to get them all together and running the game... well-ish. Hope you're doing well mi amigo!

I just upgraded my main gaming PC's GPU from a GTX 980 to RTX 2070, I'm feeling it!
GPU makes the biggest difference in this game, it seems
i was fine playing early access on my old i5 7500, 16 GB DDR4 3200 and Radeon 480.. but how would pc handle act 3, the horror?!
That's still better than a steamdeck, and the steamdeck can (just) run it. You'll be okay!
