I was on the Joy Summer 2023 to Bermuda. I was concerned that the Observation Lounge would be too small with the refurbishment. Good to hear that it’s not. Our experience was that it was often crowded at peak times. We will definitely miss not having laser tag. We did not think that we would enjoy it at our age. We had a ball. We went back a second time.
I am sad about the laser tag. We did it late at night en route to Alaska on Encore. We had a great mix of kids and adults playing and some of the laser tag staff also played with us. It was a really memorable activity. We were looking forward to the different theme arena on Joy. :(
Firstly your videos on the NCL have been far the most comprehensive and informative without resorting to drama for views. Secondly we will be travelling later this year with a second grader. Is it worth getting a vibe pass given he won’t be allowed in? He does love the kids club though so will probably be in there for a couple of hours a day
Thanks for the kind words! If he spends a lot of time at the kids club, you may enjoy the thermal suite or vibe- it’s just a matter of choosing which is better. Vibe because it’s outdoors is weather dependent!
You did nothing to fix the pool deck! You have a ship of 4K passengers and a pool about the size of a family pool in Levittown! The pool deck is just an extension of the buffet. I love NCL, but will never sail this ship again. I’ll sail RCL out of Bayonne if this is the NYC option.
Do you remember what the hours were for the Vibe Beach Club/hottubs? I always love going after dinner in the evening, but find a lot of the hottub close pretty early evening.
It didnt fill up in the Caribbean, but in Alaska and Panama canal cruises, its impossible to get seats in the observation lounge. The chair hoggers claim and camp out on all the chairs in there first thing of the day.
We missed the Thermal spa on the Joy in 2022, so we're glad to see it's back. However, I didn't see the big spa pool. Is this not a part of the spa anymore?

Seems there's still no overhead cover during the occasional passing rain cloud. I've experienced that on the Prima where the bartender and crew behind the bar are covered during a lengthy rain downpour and all sitting at the bar were getting drowned by rain rolling off the bars roof right down on your back. If you are there in a bathing suit no big deal, but we were there just to telax in the place we paid $259/7days. Even the walkways out of the Vibe Beach Club had no cover. Not even retractable.
Very cool to see all the enhancements.. We sailed on the Joy before the updates & it seems like the did a great job with utilizing the spaces. I used the spa a few times & that thermal area looks great.. Also, our balcony cabin was a short walk to the observation lounge.. We knew all about it 😎
On Encore, we had a Club Balcony which happened the be the first room next to the Observation Lounge. Minus the occasional noise from the public toilets in the Lounge it was the best room and location of any cruise we’ve ever taken. Hoping for a similar room for our 10 night Alaska on Joy next year.
Going in August to Bermuda really Looking forward to it. But no matter how many times I see it I don’t get the thermal suite spa, etc. I’m on vacation I’m there have a good time. I know a lot of people like to relax relaxing to me as listen to the band with a nice drink sitting in the sun to me, I feel like I’ll be wasting all my time just sitting there, staring out of the window.

Let me preface by saying your content is always so thorough! I saw in one of your earlier videos, it showed your balcony stateroom. Did you feel super crowded? One of us will have to sleep on that couch. Was it uncomfortable? Do you think three women will survive? We have spa passes, since we originally booked when they still had spa balconies. Also we got vibe passes. I have stayed in the Haven before and I thought about bidding for an upgrade for more space. We would lose our spa passes and have to purchase new ones.what are your thoughts?
Hey Karen! Thanks for the comment. It was a bit tight for three people, but we got by. The hard thing with the bed/couch is they left it in bed configuration all the time, so it makes the room feel more cramped. It was so/so in terms of comfort. Hard call on the bid, but you may appreciate more space and a "real" bed with three adults, IMO!

My son loved Laser Tag on Bliss too! It is a fun, unique activity!

Bliss has a very small Vibe area. It is nothing like this refurb.
So glad to hear that the Observation Lounge is still as beautiful as it was. I sailed in the Joy shortly before it went into dry dock. Love that ship!

It's not. They have the small hot tub now, and a cold plunge, and LOTS of loungers.
So they upgrade the lounge and got rid of the fun family aspects of it but kept the pools tiny as heck. Congrats Ncl you really nailed it.
They upgraded the expensive adult only activities and got rid of affordable family friendly activities. I may cancel my trip.

Yes! And the laser tag & VR spaces weren’t utilized enough (Not when we were cruising) Which shows in their decisions to revamp. 😃
