    A Meshtastic Firmware with APRS would be perfect. And then a ATAK Civ Plugin to have great connectivity in off grid environments.

    Interesting project, thanks for sharing! Now I'm waiting for someone to say in the comments that it's pointless and that for the cash they are better off buying a 'proper' handheld

    When someone makes an opensource DMR code for that (assuming no hardware problems) that kind of platforms will be killers. ..with enough output power and harmonics filtering of course.

      Unforunately, the AMBE codec is not open and you have to license it.

    Nice! Hopefully there is or will be a version with a full color LCD rather than this monochrome one.
    I have both types of those tiny LCDs... well, 3 kinds... one color, 2 color and full color.
    I love the full color ones and on occasion will use those. What can I say. I love color and do shy away from anything that, now in 2023, doesn't go color. LOL
    Sure, I get it. A minor thing for most, but some of us love to use colors to enhance a project.

    • @Neruomir
      @Neruomir 4 месяца назад

      You do have a power consumption tax to pay for that color tho and i suspect battery life is a bigger priority for most on a handheld radio.

    Needs a little more explanation. What is this thing? Other than the possibility of using it as a walkie talkie...what else? Why?

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  10 месяцев назад +4

      Do some research on ESP32, SA868, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Then think of an application that uses any of those components. Then build the software. For example, an APRS tracker or iGate could be made all in one unit. Possibilities are endless. Take a look at SoftRF that I linked, they have lots of Aviation projects.

      its not the same thing, and not the same target audience. If you dont like tinkering, coding, soldering - then by all means go buy your chinese "walkie" - if you have no ham-radio license, you would not be allowed to "tinker" anyways.
