  • I met Benny Greb while on tour with his three piece band Moving Parts and we had a marvellous chat that won't please only us drummers but each & every musician. In this episode you'll see that Benny is not just a great artist but also able to convey his thoughts on sound, creative practice, dynamical range etc. in a fun and intelligible way.

safe to say Benny is not only one of the best drummers around, he is also one of the best thinkers around.

Benny is such an inspiration and has the right mindset as a drumming educator. He’s fantastic in every way.

Great video and all around great YT channel - Benny interview is just great. FWIW - I do a fair bit of videography, it might be nice on these interview vids if you contrasted the B&W talking head footage with full color clips of the drummer being interviewed playing his kit....makes a nice contrast - subbed and look forward to digging deeper into your channel - thanks

This kind of mindset is what most speed / technical drummer misses a lot,

Not so true! Having more chops give you more tools to express with. Build fundamentals to perfection I say. Just my personal experience or 35 years of playing.

I just got my first drumkit.... and I got it TO PLAY MORE QUIETLY THAN ANY OTHER DRUMMER. (I hate big dumb loud drums. SO INEFFICIENT in every possible way.) I got a Ludwig JR kit (!) $200, and tweaked it so I can always practice outdoors, and there's no need for a kit to be so loud. (Acoustic guitars can easily be heard over me outside. And I only use Rods. Fast and quiet is my M.O.)

Nice wait until the concious incompetence starts lol joking aside quiet playing is hard and something I never did enough been practicing it alot more recently

    • @dumpygoodness4086

@@jangobango2847 I came about the drums from a BACKWARDS way as most drummers: i couldn't get a kit (nowhere to put it, blah blah), so I would drum on my thin carpet while reading or watching tv, and i'd use BOTTLE
CAPS at my targets, just to work on hand / eye co-ordination.
Most drummers START with a loud AF drumkit... so they're beginning from a standpoint of MASSIVE LOUDNESS (that can't be good for their
ears, either!)... but I came the opposite way. (I can play ANY volume on
my drumkit! But I don't see any logical reason big kits are so loud. That
was when they were in WARS and played with BIG BANDS!)
